2017 marks the year of the great return of Norwegian symphonic black metal giants, DIMMU BORGIR. The band's highly-anticipated double-DVD, Forces Of The Northern Night, is out worldwide via Nuclear Blast Records.
Available in different formats, the release will contain two live rituals:
Their legendary concert in Oslo, showing DIMMU BORGIR on stage with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and a bombastic choir as well as the entire performance at Wacken Open Air with almost 100 musicians in action from the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra.

I love the choir singing the melodic part, but it really isn't the same without Vortex singing it.
Fact that a choir took over Vortex's parts speaks volumes on the impact he had
I was about to say the same. Yeah it's cool but there is no replacing ICS Vortex's clean vocals.

Dimmu Borgir must be my favorite band of all time. Seen 2 of their shows and they are so good on stage. What i loved about the last one at a festival, they were controlling the audience. In front of me there were 10 tiny girls watching the show and some big farmer assholes wanted to bash in on them creating moshpits. Everytime one started the guys on stage made sure to get the attention of the crowd so the moshpits never really started making it a fun experience for everyone on the festival.
Awesome song ... One of Dimmu's best of all time.
if they only Knew Ics Vortex vocals blows this choir out of the water.

@@2ndkombat uhhhh...ICS Vortex wasn't in the band until this album (Death Cult Armageddon)...or maybe the one prior (Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia). But by then, Dimmu had already released For All Tid, Stormblast, Godless Savage Garden, Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, and Spiritual Black Dimensions. They were well known and a powerhouse of their genre already. Plus....if you're that impressed with ICS Vortex, you should check out Borknagar before Vintersorg got with the band. Personally, I prefer Vintersorg but to each their own.
This video gives me goosebumps everytime in the choir part .

The main orchestral parts always reminded me of a song that would have been great for a "Batman" theme. After the first listen, I saw it in my head...ever since...I can't unsee it.

The great thing about that album (Death Cult Armageddon) is like 90% of the songs were designed with an orchestra in mind. It isn't like what Metallica did with "S&M" trying to adapt the songs to work with one afterwards. Silenoz wanted to include it from the start. The choir parts were mostly originally sung cleanly by Abbath (who was a founding member of the band Immortal).

Yeah I miss him - Dimmu Borgir just was not the same after he and Mustis left. Death Cult Armageddon will always be their greatest achievement if you ask me.

It means "Dark Fortress" or "Dark Castle", if I'm not mistaken...🤔
