I wonder, if he's doing only ashtanga or also some kind of workout to maintain this kind of muscular appearance. In general the yogis of this tradition seem to have very aesthetic bodys. Is this just from the practice of the sequences? Are there any ashtanga-yogis here to answer this question?

If you're locking to get this kind of body, with the lean, strong muscles, ashtanga yoga is definitely one of the best ways. The static tension created by holding the poses in combination with the more dynamic flow of the vinyasa will definitely get you there assuming you follow the correct diet. You still need to keep your protein levels at a reasonable high level, just as when you practice any other from exercise.

Aja H This is only a small part of what is possible in Ashtanga Vinyasa. There are around 240 Asanas (Positions) in Ashtanga, and it takes years only to learn the first one or two of 6 series.

    Really impressive.
One thing I don't understand - the asanas these people do seem really demanding in terms of flexibility and strength.
You would think Yoga guys would be more muscular.

edydon My Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher was in Mysore this year and the teachers there say it's better to avoid any other physical demanding activities, even avoid bicycle rides or long walks. The secret is the perfect harmony between flexibility and strength. Too much strength without flexibility can harm as well as too much flexibility without corresponding strength. (I must admit I'm just on the very beginning, I just started my first beginners workshop yesterday but I'm fascinated by this and I will try all to keep working on it.

+Dirk Fischer I saw an informational video recently.
Apparently, strength is more about neurology than muscularity.
The majority of us use only a small portion of the available neurons to activate the muscle cells.
But yogis, by doing high-balance exercises, are training their neurology to use a greater portion of the muscle neurons.
So, people with ordinary body types can end up with twice the strength of a non-yogi
      pretty kool

This has nothing to do with yoga. It is just some body acrobatics/gymnastics, nothing else
