There's literally zero downside. Either he's on LTIR and his cap hit doesn't matter, or he comes back at a super low cap hit.

Sounds like Toronto never checks any of these players medical records they just sign one legged dman bc as long as the arena is full & jerseys flying off the shelf that is good enough for them.

@@Lee-f9w5v wouldnt be able to replace him even if he was ltir. Youd have to trade something big to get a top 6 c. Plus JT is the captain. Hes got hella talent too. You could get pieces if he gets injured but its tough to get talent back.
The leafs can't really commit to a dman who is injured ltir won't help they would be better off inserting Meyers into training camp for bottom 2 dmen and walk away from contract offer a pto if still unsure

Hakanpaa could quite possibly already had knee surgery and Toronto is waiting on his recovery. He isn't signed so no one would even know.

You can Blame Steve Simmons for outing Hakenpaa and his injury keeping the Leafs from signing then using his contract under LTIR.

@@gh4121-b5n Simply dumb to do that. Sign a player - who you don't expect to play - so you can limit your team by not accumulating cap space throughout the season ahead of the trade deadline. Just ridiculous.
