Regarding the awareness people on the stands had of Ayrton's conditions during the race, the PA system did not disclose any information, but some people including myself had portable tv sets (the race was broadcast by a public TV channel) and could realise something really bad had happened by the anxious behaviour of the medical staff. We knew of Ayrton's death at the railway station where flocks of sad people were crowded around the tv set in the bar

Watching this makes my stomach churn, knowing what happens to Ayrton a few minutes later, but it's a priceless piece of film nonetheless. Roll on June when 'Senna' gets released in the UK.
Knowing what Senna was to the world of motorsport, and the world at large, it gives you chills to watch him go around for what would be his last time...and that date stamp, 01.05.94...gives you goosebumps..

The day classic formula one died.
Possibly the most true and sad comment I've ever heard. 1985 first gp at Adelaide....classic f1 did die that day.....no prost, Senna, mansell and all tracks and cars changed.
You can see the sorrow among the fans. After Larini takes the lead there would normally have been much more cheering (Italy is full of Ferrari fans), and the little cheering I heard was half-hearted. It is truly sad what happened. It's good to see this recorded though.

David Brabham at 2:23-2:24, a brave man to be racing that day :( they all were.
I'm glad they didn't show the lap when Senna crashed and Schumacher came through, although the crash would have been quite loud, people would have known something was wrong.
Thanx for the upload its quite a sobering sight to see Senna pass his fans for a final time, poor Senna and Ratzenberger 2 of the many drivers to lose their lives in pursuit of speed and glory R.I.P
Usually in my country first of May is a happy day when people blow balloons, adults gather in parks wearing student hats (as the celebration has educational traditions) and see friends. Children also spend a happy day with balloons, sweets and things like that. In that year this day was not so happy :(

For....15? years we have only seen the eerie grainy tv footage, now finally there is a link to reality with this race, I get an odd good feeling from this which is hard to explain. The fact that it was a nice day, beautiful cars, everyone enjoying themselves... odd. In my mind I used to think of imola as a creepy place because of the events there, but now I can think of this, great seats, great track, great drivers, great cars....just bad luck ruined it.
So sad what happened!
@oldnoddy, you're right, sorry for the mistake. I did not check the race report and my memory was fooled by the fact Larini made it eventually for the second place. I will possibly re-edit the video, but I'm not sure as every time I look at these images I can't help but getting sad.
If I was there I think I would be wearing ear defenders. The noise from the power of those cars must be deafening! Those cars have got some acceleration too. Impressive.

That is how dead can be in F1. Suddenly a car with a certain number does not pass by anymore....
Harder to watch than I thought. Especially knowing with hindsight that Ayrton is never going to pass by again but being fully aware that as you were filming, you had no idea this would be the case and fully expected him to come around the next lap still in the lead. Fuck!
It's hard to believe that at the time, you were just recording the video no knowing what disaster was going to occur in the next couple laps.

yes.....climbing uphill to alta chicane...but year later, track was modifed...acqua minerale bends were modified too. in present they are faster and safer.

When that Williams came past on what would be lap six of the race (laps six and seven in the first start were effectively re-run), losing positions left, right, and centre, did the crowd think, or realise, that it was Senna or Hill?

what part of the track is that? I looks like the part where they've done revisions to in the last years of it's participation in 2006-7 to slow down the cars. I think Alonso won that year.
