It was a very quick car with a very powerful engine and had and eventually manifested great potential, it’s just it was very difficult to drive. So I wouldn’t say it had bad performance just strange characteristics and hard to drive, yet he still got pole in the first 3 races of 94, imagine what he could’ve done when the B spec car arrived..

"I have a very negative feeling about driving the car and driving it on the limit and so on.
Therefore I dindn't have a single run or a single lap that I felt comfortable or reasonably confident. I am uncomfortable in the car. It all feels wrong.
We changed the seat and the wheel, but evenso I was already asking for more room. Going bach to when we raced at Estoril last September, it feels much more difficult.
Some of that is down to the lack of electronic change. Also, the car hat its own characteristics which I'm not fully confident in yet. It makes you a lot more tenxe and that stresses you"

    Obrigado senna!

@@home2frinky serious question, I know the steering column situation where they cut and welded in a very small section of a smaller diameter and lesser gauge aluminum that ended up failing (people would argue that it only completely failed when the car stuck the wall at over 135mph) there is strong onboard video evidence that some sort of steering issues had occurred before leaving the track. My question is do you think it was only a case of the column failing or do you think that the slow speed of safety car and debris on the track from the crash at the start of the track could have caused a small puncture or the temperature of tires cooling lowered the car X amount of millimeters causing it to bottom out, or could it have been a perfect storm of multiple reasons. I guess we will never truly know... or even why the Williams Mechanics raced to take the black boxes immediately after the car was towed back to the paddock to be seized.

It's just a shame that the 1994 Williams will always be remembered as "that car". Damon Hill did brilliantly in the FW16B. Almost won the championship and Williams won the constructors championship. Senna would have won the championship in 94, 95, 96 and 97 possably even further. We lost a legend that day.
Full respect to him, his family and to the Williams F1 Team.

I disagree, the culmination of beauty to me was the FW15C. After this all cars started to get ugly (Mclaren MP4/9, FW16, etc). If you look carefully you'll notice the FW16 has straight sidepod inlets. This as opposed to the curved inlets of FW15C. Try to find the Estoril promo shot of Hill and Senna in front of an FW15c painted in Rothmans colors. (No anhedral wing & curved sidepod inlets) it is the most beautiful F1 shape & color ever.

  • @dalebshelton

@pabloramon3804 Here is how you can tell if it is the F15C or the Fw16. First the fW15 does not have a refueling valve on the side. Second The Fw15c had a bump on the nose to accomedate the Solid suspension. The Cockpit front is a V shape on the fw15. and Lastly the rear bottom wing of the Fw16 is angled. This is the Fw16.

@bubi8894 It wasn't Senna's fault, not it was Williams' team fault. The fault belonged to the organisers of the Imola GP. In 1989, G. Berger crashed in the same corner at 180 mph. The crash was even more horrifying than Senna's, but Berger survived. If after Gerhard Berger's crash the organisers would have decided to put the protective tires against the wall (a simple decision full with common sense) or changed the corner, Senna would have been alive today.

    • @markwilliams5540
      @markwilliams5540 5 лет назад +2

I agree they should have re- profiled that corner long before 1994 . F1 got complacent about safety and Senna and Ratzenberger paid the ultimate price very sadly.

@bubi8894 I said it before and I will say it again. It may have been Senna's desire to lengthen the steering but it should have been the engineer's decison to tell him it was unsafe. Drivers want to go fast at all cost....its in their nature...the crew should be the voice to tell him..mechanically it was not possible.
