    Thank you so so much for sharing this for all to see.
    If anyone is interested, the car is on show in the DAF Museum, Eindhoven.
    I’d rather listen to this engine than a current F1 hybrid, but wow that’s weird!

    I remember reading that Renault had quite serious reservations about this because the engine technology was not there to sustain a constant high rpm output. The engine needed those periods of lower rpm to survive. So over one lap, lovely.

      I bet the drivers relierd on the engine noise too as that's what they'd had all their careers to then.

      @flammenjc 3 месяца назад +1

      Well thats the case with any race engine. You'd need so many balance shafts coming into play at different constant RPM operation intensities.
      Most engines will shake themselves to bits at constant RPM for minutes at a time

      he visto el video a lo largo de los años y al escuchar el motor entiendo que arranca en bajas rpm y van subiendo gradualmente y creo esa es la parte del software mas complicada de controlar pero lo deben haber logrado. Estimo que los tecnicos de la FIA deben de haber presenciado las pruebas y fueron exitosas y el costo de implementarlo sumado a la electronica que ya tenia ese coche dispararse en varios millones por temporada para cada equipo. Igual es una pena no haber visto ese auto competir al igual que Brabham con ventilador solo una carrera o el Doble chasis de Lotus. El ingenio no tiene limites y cada año nos sorprenden

    It would be interesting how much faster this would have been . Why is this not a thing in normal cars? It would ne easy to spare fuel, to raise reliability.

    • @KlaasRijnks
      @KlaasRijnks 11 месяцев назад +3

      I believe they tested the system at Silverstone and it proved to be around 3 seconds faster there. The system allows the engine to run at the optimum speed nearly all the time so full power would be available to the driver throughout. And it doesn’t cut drive completely for shifting gears all the time.

    • @rofufoja
      @rofufoja 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@KlaasRijnks As far as I know that is more myth than truth. I read a David Coulthard interview where he stated they ran fast laps on a shortened Silverstone circuit and he thought the gain would be about half a second or more on a lap in comparison to their regular car. Sounds sensible to me since they already had paddle shift back then.

    • @KlaasRijnks
      @KlaasRijnks 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@rofufoja I think I read the supposed three second advantage years ago, I certainly can’t remember where I read it or who said it. But if Coulthard, the driver, thinks it’s about half a second, then that’s probably a far better estimate. Still, it appears it would be quicker and it’s a bit of shame it got banned immediately.
      About the paddle-shift boxes: do you have any info on the shift times back then? They weren’t as sophisticated as gearboxes now and didn’t shift as seamless as they do today.

    • @tiadaid
      @tiadaid 11 месяцев назад +5

      What do you mean this is not a thing in normal cars? CVT gearboxes are incredibly common in road cars, and often derided by purist.
      I've driven CVT cars for 20 years now, ranging from Honda to Proton and now Renault.

    • @auwz66
      @auwz66 11 месяцев назад

      @@KlaasRijnks Shift timers on the first paddle shift boxes in F1 were around 100-120ms. So still very fast. I believe very quickly they were at about 80 and it went down from there. They are in single figures now.

    • @jamesgeorge4874
      @jamesgeorge4874 9 месяцев назад

      Because they are fragile garbage in road driven cars, Nissan has been proving it since around 2006. Heavy trucks would be worse. They are OK in light vehicles, such as ATV / SXS, and snowmobiles.

    A very clever invention and would probably have been a huge advantage for about 3 months until everyone else developed their own version! Was probably the correct decision to ban it if only to protect everyone's hearing from the incessant whining. Those beautiful v10s were at their best smashing through the gears with the accompanying crescendo! I do miss the 90s though with all the bad hair, terrible fashion and primitive computers. It was a much simpler time 🤣 DC was just as easy on the eye back then as he is now which is utterly disheartening cos now my missus has another celebrity crush. Couldn't get her to watch f1 before but now she knows about him she can't wait for the new seasons highlights on TV 🙄

    • @fam.hunger5244
