During this test, after his first run, he climbed out of the car and said to Brazilian F1 journalist Flávio Gomes: “Holy sh*t, right when it’s my turn to drive the car, they f*cked up the car”. Years later, Adrian Newey recognized in his book that the 94 car was an “evolution” of the 93 car without the active suspension and electronics. He conceded that they should have taken a page from Williams’ last passive suspension car (91?) and use that as a base of development for 94, making a better car to drive through bumps. The 94 aero (of the beginning of the championship as they evolved and fixed it afterwards) was very sensitive to ride height and while this was ok for the 93 active suspension car, it didn’t work for the 94 passive suspension car.
Most people know the onboard is not Senna but Coulthard driving later in the day. None of Senna's cars had an onboard attached in this test. You can see it.
@azapro911 A Williams mechanic was ordered to take the black-boxes, he had worked with them for years and worked with hundreds of them, he said it was perfectly fine, no damage bar a few scratches on the outside, Williams said it was badly damaged which is the reason the final 1.4 seconds isn't available, the car was destroyed as it was in a state of 'deterioration'. A steering column extension was done very poorly with big cracks appearing where it was welded on. And you say it was the track...
MichaSpielt He would be angry depending the approach that the person would have used, but if someone had a video of the actual race of 1994 San Marino Grand Prix and would have shown to him, explaining him the reasons and the facts that will take place, then he would have listened and I think very very carefully. Then perhaps not only he would not race that fateful day, but I think he would have break the contract with Williams.

You can see that the car is unstable. Senna didn't like it, it's clear in the expression on his face. Senna wanted to drive the FW15C adapted to the 94 regulations. He liked the car, it was fast and more reliable. Adrian Newey and Patrick Head did not accept.
A brazilian journalist called Flavio Gomes was on the William's garage when Senna finished his first lap with the new car. According to him, the first Senna words after turn off the engine were: "fuck! They fucked with the car just at my turn" Flavio Gomes is one the most important f1 journalists in Brazil and he has the audio recorded in a tape. He tells one day he will upload it.
its sad how uncomfortable senna looks when he climbs (squeezes?) into that deathtrap of a car. then again, all cars prior to 96 (except maybe sauber) were effectively deathtraps.....those low cockpits were just begging for trouble. hindsight is great, but they really shouldve figured that out before all those crashes in 94-95
Had Mclaren gone with the Lamborghini like Senna wanted and not the Pegout for 94 maybe he would have stayed with them. However he wanted the best car to win the title again and he knew that Williams did have the best car for 94 and they did have the best car From 1994 to 1997. Senna more or less was ready for Williams already for the 1992 season but his loayalty to Honda kept him at Mclaren He did not go to Williams in 1993 because they had signed Prost.
williams' cars in '94 had formidable problems with the steering rack and front suspension. if you watch highlights of the '94 british gp you'll see the front of hill's car suddenly come apart.....
He was seems not in his home, there was something between the team persons and he as Ayrton was already in another place. For sure he was not easy to create a relationship ...
Actually by 1992 it was perfectly obvious to anybody that Williams had by far the better car, not just the Renault engine. Even if Honda would have produced a more powerful engine, the McLaren chassis of 1992 still wasn't on the same level as the very advanced Williams with all it's active ride height and traction control. Senna was thinking of a sabbatical for 1993 and McLaren had Hakkinen ready to replace him (coming from Lotus), but in the last moment Senna signed a race per race deal.
@dojOdRiFTeR that's because he used to get pole position with inferior cars, out of pure driving talent (i.e. Lotus 98T, McLaren MP4/8, Wililams FW16). He could get the fastest time over 1 lap in qualifying. but if you have an inferior car, there is no way you'll stay in front through the whole race distance because your car can't keep up through the race. Unless there is an equalizing factor, like rain, in which cases he did win (Estoril '85, Donington '93), or came from the back (Monaco '84)
The thing was Peugeot had dominated the 1992 and 1993 24 hours of LeMans with their Group C racecars. Ron Dennis had already seen Porsche dominate Group C sportscar racing in the 80's and therefore let Porsche build the TAG V6 turbo, with which McLaren won 3 driver's titles and 2 constructor's titles. Signing Peugeot seemed like a shrew move. Lamborghini struggled with their engines in other teams in the early 90's, and Chrysler didn't want to bankroll the development of the F1 Lambo engine
@johnjackbunce you know that was the reason why he died, the tyre bounced off the wall and hit hes head, it wasnt the wall impact, now 2days f1 cars cover half the head or more maybe
Frank Williams wanted to sign Mika Hakkinen to partner Alain Prost in Williams for 1993. It seemed that as if it was a done deal when Lotus somehow blocked Hakkinen's transfer. When they couldn't get Hakkinen they promoted their test driver Damon Hill to race driver. The rest is history. Then again Hakkinen ended up in McLaren instead, and that was a good story in itself.

FreeBestplayer123 I find it counter productive since it's a video about Senna test driving the Williams car for that particular season, not just any Williams car.
@macee17 Williams made an amazing car actually, the FIA just didn't want them destroying again and deemed the suspension illegal. It was the same factor with the blown diffuser this year but Newey learned from his mistakes with this car and already had a design created if the car needed to be run without the blown diffuser.

this happens like a million times during f1 races, but it's not always fatal like senna's crash. He was short of ground to brake his car and the violent nature of that crash killed him.
@ 1:51 How the hell did they even allow drivers to drive those cars with their heads sticking out a full meter out of the car? Senna's shoulders are almost sticking out of the cockpit.
Actually Benetton had the best car in 1994, but how could Senna have predicted that? Both Senna and Hill complained that the 1994 Williams was nigh on undrivable without all its former electronical driver aid's which made the 1992 and 1993 Williams so dominant. Schumacher on the other hand admitted that until 2002 the best car he had ever driven was the 1994 Benetton. It may not have had the best engine but the chassis was brilliant. Some even say it was illegal. Senna thought so at least.
Apparently he was shocked how bad the car was. Sadly, Newey was only able to make the car truly competitive a few races after his death. I believe had he not been so anxious about the car, and its many flaws, and he had no died, of course, there is a chance he could have won the title in '94.
I have to apologize on this one. The reason why Senna was so uncomfortable with that car is because that is the FW15 in Rothmans colors, and the cockpit was still designed to fit Alain Prost. Williams did make the cockpit bigger with the FW16.
I can't tell if you are trolling but how can you say that when he put the williams-renault on pole for the first 3 races of the 1994 season? For the most part he controlled the car very well considering how nervous it was in the corners.

R.I.P. Ayrton Senna
Somethings are hard to understand. It was curious. The collumn pece broke and senna hit the wall in a exactly angle that allowed the same pece hit in on his head and only that. His body was normal. Only his head get hurt. Later he change the whole world of Formula1. Maybe he was choosen by reasons that I don t know to change something maybe worse. Sorry guyd for my poor english. We all miss ayrton in Brazil, and is greatfull to see americans, japaneses u know... all u guys sharing love for our brazilian. Thank u all. Senna is not dead, he s just one lap forward than us.
@orlandorecifebrasil it is Ayrton, you can hear him gently stabbing at the throttle through the corners as he characteristically did. It is just that it was his outlap, brakes and tires were cold and he was still trying to learn the car, it's pretty obvious that he wasn't going to push it to he limit yet.
Im portuguese and remember this quite well. Ayrton barely smiles for the cameras and i don´t see any enthusiasm in his eyes. He seemed to know that somehow he was entering in the last adventure of his life.
Forever the best
Hoje vendo Grosjean saindo quase ileso, me alegra ver as mudanças na segurança.
A carenagem acima do volante é diferente.
If you pay atention, the car at 1:49 it's not the same car at 2:54. The fairing above the steering wheel it's different.

Stop it at 1:19 he knew something was going to go wrong that year he could feel it.
Quando ele falou isso?
He was so much more than just a driver. Highly intelligent man. Could have ran F1 after he stopped driving
Most people know the onboard is not Senna but Coulthard driving later in the day. None of Senna's cars had an onboard attached in this test. You can see it.
# R.I.P Ayrton Senna 😢🇧🇷🏎️😇
The footage from 3:05 onwards is actually David Coulthard
If Ayrton had only signed for Benetton that year he’d have crushed everyone and still be alive
A Super Hero
Forever
@azapro911 A Williams mechanic was ordered to take the black-boxes, he had worked with them for years and worked with hundreds of them, he said it was perfectly fine, no damage bar a few scratches on the outside, Williams said it was badly damaged which is the reason the final 1.4 seconds isn't available, the car was destroyed as it was in a state of 'deterioration'. A steering column extension was done very poorly with big cracks appearing where it was welded on. And you say it was the track...
That legendary Renault V10!
I would love to have seen Schumacher in the other Williams as his team mate. That would have been interesting.
new car? just present new colors, the car is the fw15b without helps electronics
Javier - I'm very interested, is there evidence somewhere that the car was really a modified FW15b?
At 2:46 the cockpit is different to the cockpit that they use in the races
I wonder what Senna would have said when the would have said to him: "Hey Ayrton, this is the car in which you gonna die"
George Voudouris I would show him the testimonies of the team owner at the judgment in 1997... explaining that the crash was an Ayrton's mistake....
This Is The FW15D. Not The FW16.
Danny C Yeah a defense team does that lol
SIMPLY THE BEST! #SennaForever
Nope
Nope he is right senna not only was he probably the greatest driver of all time but also the most kind hearted of all time. shumacer can beat it cause he took forever to win a championship and half of the time had to cheat to win.@@jandaf2761
look at 3:58, when the back of his car steps out, and he correct's the slide. This is EXACTLY what happened at tamburello
I remember Senna complained that this understeer car all of sudden turns into oversteer car after the first winter test and I finally see what he was talking about. He takes understeer lines at apexes like Alonso with Renault and as he lets off gas , the front recovers grip so quickly and the rear kicks out. This is how my 997 gt3 runs like, and it’s really really scary when I was not used to it. 997 GT3 Driver’s fix this characteristics by putting either wider front tires or wheel spacers. I can see that the Williams had too week mechanical front grip for the power it had.
Those cars barely had any protection. His whole upper body is basically exposed.
And yet had better looking designs and better sounding engines

This car was basically an unstable and unleased beast
Neweis fail
+andarax8 , in fact williams was the most stable car at the time. "Unstable and unleashed beast", you can say that of McLaren, though.
+Clímax Contos Eróticos
That the Williams Car was an unstable Beast is just another Fantasy-Story of the Senna Fans. Because MSC was better than Senna in the first two Races of 94 by having a slower Car.
So it was NOT that MSC was faster, NO. Sennas Car was an Unstable Beast.
In real EVERY 94 Car was very unstable. In F1 History the 94, 95 and 96 Cars are the most unstable Cars ever.
97 the Rules made the Cars safer and stable.
+Karl S.
That isn't true because in the early part of the season the Benetton was easier to handle than the Williams. Senna may have put the car on pole in the first three races but on longruns the Benetton was the better car.
As the season progressed Williams got the upper hand but sadly Senna didn't get the chance to win his fourth title.

look how nervous the car is in the turns.. the back looks like it wants to step out soo badly.
They fucked with the car just at my turn"
Flavio Gomes is one the most important f1 journalists in Brazil and he has the audio recorded in a tape.

AYRTON SENNA FROM BRAZIL!!!!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Had Mclaren gone with the Lamborghini like Senna wanted and not the Pegout for 94 maybe he would have stayed with them. However he wanted the best car to win the title again and he knew that Williams did have the best car for 94 and they did have the best car From 1994 to 1997.
Senna more or less was ready for Williams already for the 1992 season but his loayalty to Honda kept him at Mclaren He did not go to Williams in 1993 because they had signed Prost.
did Prost test 1994 regulations Williams FW15c or FW16, end of 1993 season?
yes
williams' cars in '94 had formidable problems with the steering rack and front suspension. if you watch highlights of the '94 british gp you'll see the front of hill's car suddenly come apart.....
He was seems not in his home, there was something between the team persons and he as Ayrton was already in another place. For sure he was not easy to create a relationship ...
First run... insane
Interesting video. Obviously the steering wheel isnt flexing like a wet noodle in Imola.
2.54 only a real F1 fan knows its David Coulthard driving that car ,see the helmet
True
Why would they show someone else's driving when it's about Senna test driving the Williams' car?
thaik56 maybe because they couldn't get the footage of senna?
FreeBestplayer123 I find it counter productive since it's a video about Senna test driving the Williams car for that particular season, not just any Williams car.
Yep....says it all about williams then then..
@macee17 Williams made an amazing car actually, the FIA just didn't want them destroying again and deemed the suspension illegal. It was the same factor with the blown diffuser this year but Newey learned from his mistakes with this car and already had a design created if the car needed to be run without the blown diffuser.
Podia tener hoy 5. Titulos Mundiales.SEMPRE AYRTON 1
this happens like a million times during f1 races, but it's not always fatal like senna's crash. He was short of ground to brake his car and the violent nature of that crash killed him.
O Senna nunca teve um semblante tranquilo dentro desse carro.
Senna was not just a brilliant racing driver but an engineer's racing driver.
sternumagnum Do you think? Senna was the best!!
And If youre wondering why the seat was small its because this is actually a Williams Fw15 in Rothmans colors
I can't tell if you are trolling but how can you say that when he put the williams-renault on pole for the first 3 races of the 1994 season? For the most part he controlled the car very well considering how nervous it was in the corners.
I remember Senna complained that this understeer car all of sudden turns into oversteer car after the first winter test and I finally see what he was talking about. This is not Senna on the onboard driving. It is Coulthard. You can tell by the helmet colour (and perhaps by the missing apexes :P)
Not really. He was probably uncomfortable with the car (it was still designed to fit Alain Prost who was smaller than Senna) Williams never had time to make the cockpit bigger because Ayrton died at Imola.
