    That's really helpful. If it's a luxury brand they used high quality ingredients, but probably already macerated before I bought it. Will get better with time, but not by that much. If they are a niche high quality designer fragrance shop, they probably used even better ingredients, but didn't macerate. So maybe highest payoff from my macerating. If it's a knockoff of one of those, they probably used lower quality ingredients and didn't macerate, but my macerating may not pay off that much simply because the fragrance is composed of lower quality ingredients. Does that sum it up correctly?

      You're on track. But with recent moves by these big giants and their corner cutting strategies, it's sad to see so many good fragrances getting affected. I got a very recent batch of Initio Side Effect and I'm very upset. Did a full lengthy comparison video cuz the info needs to spread. It's currently macerating. Will revisit after like 2 months. Hope it was just a quick release batch that didn't macerate and it gets better over time.

    I just bought a Zimaya Sharaf Blend that is produced in 03/24, and the notes are very much different than described. The smell stings with kind of rubbery and alcohol smells. I cannot detect the vanilla, praline, or even the dates notes that it supposed to produce. How long do you think should I macerate it for?

    • @brian19869
      @brian19869  5 месяцев назад

      Some brands are notorious for having more alcoholic blast in the initial phases. Do a couple more sprays and leave it for some time. Don't touch or move the bottle. I would give it 2 weeks before checking again.

    I finally purchased Lattafa Ameer al Oud Intense Oud and was really confused as it smelled very weak, rubbery and no smokiness.. every YT review I've seen describes it as a beastly, sweet smokey scent. Im hoping its a maceration thing and not a batch quality control issue like youve mentioned🤔.. time will tell I guess.

      Apparently, due to massive popularity, some unscrupulous businesses are selling fakes of these already cheap fragrances. With that being said, many others have reported that they too are experiencing issues with some of these brands and fragrances. Guess they're cutting down on things as the name and brand are already popular. Take your shot on some maceration. I'm hoping that yours get better over time.

    Hi I did about 20 sprays of my initio side effect and I’ve left it in a cool dry place to macerate but I took off the cap/cover, would that still work or that defeats the entire process?

    • @brian19869
      @brian19869  Год назад +1

      If you haven't opened them, but left them as is, without moving or "disturbing" the liquid, there's a very good chance it will have matured. Honestly that is something I haven't done, since I spray my fragrances and when I feel a little maceration can help, I'll just do my thing. If we're thinking the logical side, say a barrel of wine will be checked from time to time so some air does go in and it's part of the process. At least that's my understanding. You should definitely check them out and let me know. Always open to new information and experiences.

    Does the manufacturing date affect how long we should macerate for? For instance, if something was produced 5 years ago but I recently just got it should I macerate for a lesser time? And if the bottle I got was produced more recently, a year or 2 ago, should I macerate for longer? Like 2-3 months?
    Asking for niche and clone houses please

    • @brian19869
      @brian19869  Год назад +1

      I can assure you that any fragrance, except for clones, will have gone through a certain level of maceration before it hits the shelves. This is because of regulations in the industry. Clones are all about giving the thrills, so the sooner they push out, the faster they can make a buck. With that said, yes, clones might need maceration if they're not performing well. As for designer or niche houses, when fragrances don't last, just go with like a month's maceration and see. A fragrance that's already from 5 yeas back wouldn't need maceration. It had has enough time to macerate and mature. There can be exceptions where maybe a bad batch was released and it'll not help with maceration. Hope that helps. My experience woth Cedrat Boise was like that. The batch I had was so watered down that even maceration wouldn't help.

  • @Auronaax
    @Auronaax Год назад +1

    Does macerating help just the performance? So it makes it last longer or it makes certain notes more dense, dark or detectable? Or it does both or only one thing at a time or it depends on the fragrance?

    • @brian19869
      @brian19869  Год назад +1

      Some fragrances become stronger while others will have enhanced depth. Sometimes the top notes are more likely to fade while in some, nothing happens. It totally depends on the fragrance composition. Fragrances that have more natural ingredients will macerate for differently than those which have synthetic notes. For example, an authentic oud fragrance will age very differently than a fragrance that has synthetic oud notes.

    • @Auronaax
      @Auronaax Год назад +1

      @@brian19869 oh wow okay. So the one with more natural ingredients what becomes better? The longevity of the depth? And for synthetic fragrances what becomes better or worse? Or it remains the same?

    • @brian19869
      @brian19869  Год назад +2

      @@Auronaax the ones with more natural ingredients will develop more depth and character. Atleast that was my observation with quite a few. The synthetic ones are more likely to lose some top notes if they're macerated for too long or left unused for long time. There can be exceptions, but exceptions cannot be considered as mainstream examples

    Hey there, hope you're doing well. I had a question in my mind. Let's say I kept my fragrance bottle for maceration in a cold dark place and didn't move it for let's assume 20 days and on the 20th day, I had to move it somewhere else due to some important reason or I just accidentally moved the bottle a bit, will it waste the previous progress or just continue when I place it again at a stable cool dark place. Pardon me if this sounds a bit silly but I am an overthinker. 😅
