first you buy it an EDT. few months later it becomes a EDP. LOL
perfumer hate him for this simple trick
Lol... it’s an absolute now
@@tpenoel88 what trick?
I guess since Ensar uses a lot of Natural ingredients that particular fragrance didn't evaporate fully
I actually did this by mistake to a cheap Marshall's Burberry brit on my shelve for one year I poured it into a decant it's a extrait now
The old saying “use it or lose” has taken on a whole new meaning!
The fact is this makes a valid argument that your best bet is to buy the bigger bottle of a fragrance if it’s something you love and will be wearing, since it is inevitable you will lose some of the juice to evaporation
I just received a cologne that I purchased from FragranceX, and apparently leaked through the box. Should I be concerned that the scent will go bad in a short period of time? Or no?
Best way to prevent your fragrances to evaporate is to have a reasonable size collection and to wear all your fragrances on a regular basis.😊
I’m guessing there’s a lot of us that just collect them for nostalgia and don’t wear them anymore
Justin That’s kind of why I stopped growing my collection. I was reaching that tipping point where if I bought more fragrances then some of the fragrances I own wouldn’t get worn anymore. Now if I want something new I get rid of or give away another fragrance I no longer enjoy.
Very true. However, if I start to reach the end of a fragrance I love and I don't plan on buying another bottle, whether it's been discontinued or reformulated or whatever, then I want to keep what's left so I can re-visit it down the road. If it evaporates then I can't do that
FACTS
I spent £15 on a ultra male decant, it's a few months later and it's 3/4 gone, and I only wore it twice. Usually when I open my drawer, I can smell a mix of fragrances. Evaporation definitely happens.
you can add back ethanol to your frags. you probably haven't lost fragrance, you've mostly just lost ethanol or water. You are also going to lose certain compounds more readily than others depending on their volatility. I am a chemist.
Safely opening and reusing the manufacturers bottle is the rub there.
I definitely appreciate information like this. I've begun to accumulate a collection of little plastic decanted samples, and had no idea this happened so much. Thanks!
You're right on with the IA bottles evaporating over time. I've only worn my Slow Explosions twice since 2019 and it seems like 10% of the bottle is already gone. Hope Josh resolves this issue.
Love this vid man. Really appreciate the info. For sure has happened to me and I figured something was going on with some of my bottles over the years, but did not fully understand till this info. Thanks!
This explains what happened to a bottle of Anucci I have had for years. When I went reaching for it, the bottle was empty! My colognes are stored in a cool place on a shelf. The stuff I don't wear often gets stored in a plastic box with lid. When I opened the box, it smelled like Anucci but the bottle was upright (meaning did not leak from tipping over). But the box smelled like the cologne.
Thanks for this video! This explains what happened! Very informative!
This helped. I checked my decants and the ones that maintained juice were the ones with Teflon tape. Thanks.
I have an Avon perfume from 1976 and the bottle ( glass ) is still full .
Lie
I agree. A lot of exaggeration here. I have a bottle of Aspen cologne for men that I bought in 1997, and it still smells great I don’t feel like I’ve lost any at all.
@@tommybrown8205 come to my door i will fling it in your eye lol lets see how full it is it is full you can still find stuff like that on line i have joan collins perfume from 1989 still full
I was thinking evaporating from your skin from the title, didn't end up watching this til now. Literally last week I went through all my decants and put teflon tape around the threading for those that didn't have it. Tons of them lost juice, even with the tape. Sealed em up best I could. Gonna try and use em more often now.
Another great video for the Fragrance Collecting 101 course!
I had it by my flacon/ splashes. Great informative video brother
Oh man... It really helps a lot. I just bought a decant of mancera black to black. Thank you. I will check mine.
Great/valuable information- thank you!
Great topic to cover. Very informative. Thanks so much!
Thank Ash, I wanna keep-em all.
I actually never knew about this issue, this was a wonderful video, Thank you
Thanks for the info Ashton..much appreciated!!👍
My decants from my perfume samples have been evaporating like crazy recently
Same
Same. RIP my Aventus lol
Yep. Their decant bottles are the worst for evaporation. Thankfully they spray like a fire hose so it's easy to use them up before they evaporate, but I've lost several to evaporation.
How long have you had them
Awesome topic. Really appreciate the info none thing to try is a clear sealant like caulk around the bottom of the caps. That or some type of glue or epoxy. I adore imaginary Authors as well and I'll make sure to do everything I can to prevent evaporation as soon as I can pick up a bottle.
Great video. I am new to fragrances and didn’t know about parafilm. Thanks for knowledge.
Great video Ash! Thank you for the extremely useful information. I have multiple fragrances from Taylor of Old Bond Street, and they seem to have these same issues. 💪👍
Thank you for sharing great ideas and advice
Parfums vintage is the worst with leaking and evaporating
Thats't not all they are the worst at. Garbage company all around
Really?
@@valzalel5203 slowest shipping
@@kroshae Well, they're out of Dubai. It's gonna take a while realistically.
I guess I’m one of the lucky ones but I have half a dozen bottles for several years and for me it hasn’t been an issue...at least so far.
Great video and heads up Ash! Thanks for sharing. I hope this is not the case with the big brands out there.
Thank you for this video. Very helpful.
I have Chaps Lauren Chaps I bought back in 1992. I still have have it now in 2023 and I spritz it at least once a year but not more than four times and STILL smells great!!!!
I'm kind of new to the game and I kind of noticed this! Thanks for confirming my suspicion. I noticed traveling with a decant with this issue is bad to travel by plane with.
If you want to get a ton of samples that you will never wear, opt for the 1mm vial. They have 0 evaporation issues (I had exactly the same problem with spray sample bottles).
Are you sure?
Great topic Ash, thanks!
4:28 Let's be honest Ash. That's hash oil. 😂
I knew ash smoked🤣🤣
Unique content honest review 👍🏽
Evaporation is always in direction proportion to the amount of alcohol used, as well as the density of the oils. I've had terrible problems with only a few bottles, but my cheapest indie clones have almost zero issues due to the types of oils in the fragrance. I find that wrapping plumbers tape around the atomizer itself for fragrances that I hardly use can help. In fact, most of the problems I've had come from the pressure gradient created through the atomizer nozzle. After a period of time, bubbles will start to form inside the tube, indicating evaporation taking place at the tip of the nozzle and air moving in to balance the pressure. That's why tight caps are so important IMO. Bottles stored closer to wireless transmitters or moving air also seem to have the biggest problems. As an added precaution, I actually built a faraday cage around one of my storage boxes to protect some of my more expensive decants and bottles from EMF. I know, seems over the top, but it's an experiment that's still in progress, with encouraging preliminary results.
Holy ..... dude THANKS for the advice.🙏🏽 And your atomizer evaporation theory makes so much sense!
Of course, I gotta ask; how did your faraday cage experiment turn out? 🤭😁
@@sunmoon9574 Haha I didn't run a t-test or ANOVA, but from visual and olfactory inspection - no significant difference compared with adjacent bottles outside of the cage. I actually use it now to house backup drives. 😄 But according to a dedicated weather sensor that I keep in my primary fragrance cab (closed), I found a significant change in temperature and humidity during the winter months when it was against an outdoor wall compared with an indoor one. Seems like common sense since closets of the kind suffer the same problems, but it may be important to know since temp and humidity changes also affect evaporation at the nozzle.
I think most of fragrances have alcohol in them which evaporates very easy at room temp. I was wondering if that was it but it makes even more sense after seeing the gunk it left behind.
That’s happening to me with helfeti leather and prada infusion mimosa.
Thank you for the information.
Yup. Have the same problems with my 10 mil decants. Bought 7 or 8 at the same time from a high end decanter. All in glass. Expensive stuff. All have evaporation issues.
Yes para film is a great tip I got from a old collector, Works great it’s like tape but without sticky residue.
Thank you for the info I never knew.
Excellent topic. Been curious for a long time about evaporation. Thought I was being crazy that some of my fragrance samples just gone away...
An engineer who is a fragrance lover sent me a decant - he used epoxy to glue the lid on all of them - air tight guarantee.
💰💰💰Evaporates from my bank account on frags, any advice?? 😬😂
IKR😂😂😂
Cape Heartache is my favorite from the brand too
Ash, I thought about making my own amateur channel with such content. But since you are doing it best I can rest. Cheerios.
Great content !
Great video topic!
Great video!
I've had a dolce & gabbanna pour homme bottle for about 16 years. About a half inch left in the bottle. Not sure how much I've used but I'm pretty sure it's stronger than when it started.
I've noticed the same thing with my bottle of Every Storm a Serenade. I still have samples I'm using, so I've used the bottle very little. When I last looked at the bottle, it has noticably evaporated.
Several of my decants have evaporation issues. I've just made it a habit to get to those first. RIP Scent of Peace 10ml...
Storing them inside their boxes will be a little helpful to prevent evaporation, at least that's what I do.. and they won't look cool on display yes, but considering how much u can save ur juice, it's definitely worth trying.
Hi ,
Can shaking fragrance affecting its smell specially top notes ? ,
I tend to take my fragrance everyday everywhere, and carrying it while walking for more than hour , but I start to feel it smells different than It was just new
are these frags getting more oily and potent since the alcohol/ethanol is evaporating?
Thank you, I really appreciate seeing this but in a way I wish I never had, because now I'm terrified. I have between 250 to 300 fragrances. How many of them are just going to freaking disappear before I can use them? Probably a great number...
maybe u can put a sharpie dot on the ones you wont use for awhile and see if the level goes down over time below where the dot was placed (and start wearing those ones or move to safer container or dont buy again)...and sharpie is removed in 1 second btw by many methods like a cloth dipped in any moderately strong alcohol (like isopropyl alcohol)
Surgical glove finger and a rubber band over the atomiser will slow it down
Have a 1996 Chanel Antaeus, still in a great condition. Has better longevity and projection than any new fragrance that you can imagine except extrait version of BR 540!
Thanks for the tip! Can i ask would this apply to Tom Ford decanters? Those have open lids if im not mistaken.
Ashton please please please please answer me this question! I am collecting. I am up to 50 bottles in 3 months and now I am made aware about fragrance expiration. How true is it? How serious is it? And how do you deal with it having such a huge collection.
I buy most of my simple from sent split most are 10ml. I'm going to check them.
Ive had some 5ml glass bottles from Microperfumes i think... but they are not evaporating even a bit after a year. But the travel sprays in the twisty cases evaporate for sure. Use it or lose it boys.
Does anyone have issues with Prada L'homme. Each time I look at the bottle, I'm like....
Colin notyou0k my last bottle of Prada L’Homme went fast too lol
Yup same here w Prada L'homme...i've rocked that one much, but not that much... 😅
And the same for Prada carbon, idk man, left or full it’s now almost empty
When we send you or collections to look through do we do this by email or what? I think I have a nice collection for never having reviewed them
I dropped my dior sauvage edt 200 ml on the ground. Tha glass didn t break but the atomizer went inside the bottle, so up top i have a hole now, and i use the seringe to get some perfume.
The evaporation did not become a problem to me, but i have another problem, even more important. The performance of the fragrance dropped a lot in under 48h, and even the smell. I think, somehow, the ambroxan compotent evaporated. I don t know, but it s really interesting. How does tom ford use those bottles without atomizer and avoids performance dropping?
Use melted candle wax around the neck of the bottle to seal it. 👍
What do you suggest for Maison Margiela fragrances that don't use a cap at all?
Great video
Maybe someone is sneaking in and wearing your fragrances lol
Everyone: Syrup
Ashton: Seeerup
Dude that got me. Hahaha
How many months into having the fragrances does evaporation start in decants and samples
Can you talk about oxidation and when fragrances go flat.
When did you purchase your first Imaginary Authors bottle,Ashton?Just curious!!
Eek *runs off to check two Shay & Blue frags... *
Interesting stuff, Ash. Cheers
Ash, awesome video. I just ordered a Vacuum sealer to seal all my bottles that aren't in rotation.
Has the vacuum sealer worked with preservation?
@@christianjmj6460 yes, the levels have not changed leading me to believe there has been no evaporation. Also the container I use to store the bottles has no odor leading me to believe the fragrances are not having contact with the ambient air.
@@This_Abomination Thank you. What vacuum sealer did you purchase?
Just have a reasonable size collections to avoid evaporation. Also make sure you actually wear your fragrances and not be scared to wear them. You can do 5+ plus sprays of aventus lol
Bro every single cologne projects MASSIVELY from my skin. Like 3 sprays of Aspen by Coty and I can be smelled from 6 feet away. 2 sprays of Eros and it's 10 feet. Even physical solid colognes do this. I have to keep the collection small because I wear 1-2 sprays maximum. 5 sprays of Aventus and I would be arrested for asphyxiation of a child
@@Alex-pd4ug I also think you cant really enjoy your collection if you have one that consist of tons of bottles.
@@Alex-pd4ug lucky lol
@@Alex-pd4ug I wish I had your skin 😂
I'm furious right now. I have a bottle of Imaginary Authors Mosaic that I've used about a third of plus two backups that have never been sprayed. I just checked the levels of all three. All three have clearly evaporated in some capacity. Now I have to go spend money on parafilm to save my beloved Mosaic. Thanks Ashton for the heads up, but this is really upsetting. I love the house, but unless they address this issue with their bottles I'm unfortunately done with the house.
My bottle of The Soft Lawn which has been sprayed probably 10 times has lost some juice to the cosmos as well. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Yes!! My bottle of Cobra and the Canary is disappearing quickly. I thought it was my imagination 😕
Is chelsie going through your bottles without you knowing?!lol🤦🏻♂️🤣
I was thinking about that too looll
She's chuckling at the video
How should I store my cologne collection? Sometimes it’s like +29 degrees in my room during the summer. Now I store it in my closet
i’m literally so annoyed. my nicki minaj, britney spears and ariana grande perfumes are like disappearing and i’m not tryna spend more money ugh
Do fragrances in their original bottles evaporate or do they go bad first ? I have grown a large collection in the past year and I'm wondering how long most fragrances last when you store them properly.
You’ve probably got your answer now. Another dude in the comments here has a frag from 1998 and apparently it’s an absolute monster performer
Thanks for advice, I was always wanting to ask if you know if the traveler 14 ml from imaginary authors has the evaporation issue? If anyone knows, that would be great help!
Definitely noticed the Imaginary Authors issue. Have you contacted Josh about the problem?
for decants you can just store in an air tight container i have like 50ish no problems .
Well that's one way to get me to watch a RUclips advert fully!!!!
Thank you savagex . Com
🤣👍👊
Sometimes, when I spray a fragrance I get some of it on the finger I spray with. Does that show me it’s leaking?
That Shay & Blue Sicilian Limes sound really interesting but too bad about the low-quality bottle cap...
Great video I actually felt this was happening to a few of my decants . I was like him I don't remember using half of this decant LOL now I'm gonna go back & check them all
I have three Shay&Blue and have noticed it on one of mine...and I’m about to check the others..😨
Well let me tell you something iv just got 10 bottles of joan collins spectacular perfume 1989 all are in perfect condition the smell is still just like it should be and the bottles Are full , i asked the seller were the bottles were kept and he told me his aunt kept them in her bedroom in a drawer out of sunlight and out of excessive heat .
Parafilm's unusual quality is that it lets air but not water through... So I would think even with parafilm you would eventually loose your juice to evaporation....as air would still pass through the parafilm Let me know if I am wrong about this!
Can I save my fragrances because I put them in a box and then a air sealer bag
Pretty much EVERY decant in a plastic atomiser i have got, have all evaporated over about 18 months. Before i got to use most of them. From now on, im only going to buy decants in Glass atomisers
Wouldn't you smell the fragrance in the vicinity if it is evaporating?
What would you do if it starts to leak around the atomizer head itself?
Hey, with that fragances you perceived the smell changed? Look, 8th February I bought a bottle of la yuqawam tobacco blaze by rasasi, I was very happy with that smell, I storage it in it's wooden box, within a carton box with other fragance that was also on its own box, this carton box I save it in a drawer in a fresh room in my house, the last week when I apply the fragance it seemed that doesn't sprayed well in this happened two times and now the real problem is, the atomizer works well but the smell has changed, know it smells just resins, I don't smell the sweetness and the ashy leather, just pure sour Smoky wood, and it doesn't long last in my skin like it always did (7-8 hours) now just lasts 3 hours, in don't know what to do, this could be fixed? Help 😢
Great video topic... noticed this on my decants as well. I manually tightened the caps that seemed to have loosened over time -- and now I check that regularly. We should all keep an eye out for which brands may leak. I'm paranoid about ones like A*Men and CK One Shock lol.
Can you show us how to apply parafilm?
Does it happen to full 100/200 ml bottles like Dylan Blue 😢?
How do you deal with bottles that have no cap, like Valentino for example? Could that cause evaporation too? Thx for the video
I'd like to know that as well. Spicebomb Extreme, Valentino Uomo Intense and Jazz Club fit into that category from my collection
i have a JESUS DEL PONZO for about 11 years and is still new
Does artificial light from say, your bedroom damage fragrances like sunlight does?
i guess it is gonna be a major issue for ppl who own a lot of fragrances or don't use their fragrances quickly.
my skin + where I live aren't great for fragrance performance. ppl can't smell me 1-1.5h after spraying most fragrances. so i carry decants evey time and go through my fragrances pretty fast, so the evaporation problem wouldn't be a major one for me.
