after 6 years does not matter how you store them the top notes start to fade. also if it smells of vinegar at any stage it's had it's time. initially the vinegar note is light if you get to that stage just finnish the bottle as quick as you can since it will just get worse very quickly
I keep them in my basement bedroom. No sunlight gets in there and it's always very cool. The only light they get is from a light bulb that generates no heat and is rarely turned on.
I keep my fragrances in my closet, inside a dresser. I also keep them in their boxes. The temperature is consistent, and no sunlight gets inside them. I think fragrances with citrus on the top, tend to go away with time, but dense fragrances last way longer, f they are properly stored. Fingers crossed.
I have had my cologones for 6 years and none have expired. I keep then in the original box inside a giant box i keep in the closet. Their temp is always cool.
Per a perfume chemist friend: the more alcohol in the bottle, (and it's kept out of sunlight etc) the longer it will last... So EDT will fare better than edp and pure parfum is the most volatile... Also decanting the last 20ml of a 100ml into a new small bottle could keep it from turning too soon... Hope that's helpful!! P.S. he said once the baudruchage of an extrait is open, you should try to use the extrait within 18-24 months

Some may go bad especially if it has been kept for years… but a lot will be fine if properly stored… I have some for more than 10yrs, some smells different sniffing right from the bottle sprayer, others; top notes are a bit off… but for me I’m fine for as long as the dry down smells the same… I even ordered an old phased out perfume from ebay, i love the scent and is so nostalgic for me that I have to search online, wherever just to get some back… it could be a 20+ yrs. old bottle (90’s perfume)… the dry down is still the same… I only use it on special occasions since I don’t want to live without it soon… 😅 The cons of loving a perfume that has been discontinued 💔 same as a heartbreak 💔 😅

As a bit of a nail polish enthusiast, a lot of the same oxygenation rules apply to nail polish. Full bottles of nail polish, especially if you haven't opened them much, can last a while, but once you start using it and it starts being half empty, it turns to go pretty quickly.
I have Fahrenheit from 1992 it was my Dad's fav perfume and I keep it ,some times when I want to remember him and hour times together I spray the cap a bit and smell for days and days. It's not even close to new Fahrenheit that I bought. My dad's is powerful very in your face masculine. So I guess it got bad ... But I don't care.
That doesn't mean it's gone bad at all. It's probably just a little more Rich than it was when you bought it due to some evaporation. Fragrances typically don't go bad.
Sure, if you have 3000 bottles, a few will turn and go bad, but most people will never experience this. I have smelled fragrances from the 1990s that are still fine.🤷
In 2021 I purchased a 100mL 2011 limited edition Jaipur Aqua by Boucheron. If it lost some potency over the decade it sat in some wearhouse I’ll never know. It does wonderfully for me in the heat.

Awesome video with lots of great tips! Would love to know the difference between macerating a fragrange vs top notes disappearing vs a fragrance actually turning? I hear a lot of people macerate their frags for more longevity and projection. Any advice?
I personally find that perfumes with more naturals and a higher percentage of oils, tend to last longer than their counterparts. Moreover, I find that fragrances without any water in them stay fresh longer.
Some 19 years ago I bought Davidoff Echo for Men, and used it sparingly. Then it became unavailable, the bottle is now half full and turned a little brown, it was light green and there is none of the freshness or top notes, it smells very soapy and like household cleaner.
Thanks for doing the last few videos, it’s good to hear tips from time to time. Unfortunately my Popeye le male turned sour at the top, dry down is still ok
My personal experience is that perfumes that contain more citrus are actually the ones most likely to change their scent,BUT THERE IS A GOOD NEWS when the scent begins to change. You can spray some of the perfume and you will find that the remaining amount of perfume still smells healthy. It seems that the oxidized perfume is settling down or that the perfume in the spray tube is the one that has changed the smell, Therefore my advice is that if you find the smell of the perfume starting to change, do not rush, spray the perfume until the unnatural smell goes away, and be careful not to shake the perfume bottle.. Another thing is that if you use perfume at long intervals, this means that the oxidized perfume is slowly settling to the bottom, which means that the perfume will remain for a longer period because its exposure to oxidation takes place slowly and the smell is gradually eliminated. However, if you use most of the perfume in a short time and a small amount remains, this means that The quantity is more susceptible to oxidation and damage because it was exposed to a large amount of air in less period , which accelerates the oxidation process. Finally, as I said, perfumes that contain more citrus are more susceptible to damage, while more intense perfumes are usually more durable (contrary to what some say, that perfumes that contain more alcohol last longer). To clarify this, perfumes like Montale, for example, contain 80% alcohol as well like Chanel perfumes, but Montale perfumes are more intense, so they are supposed to last longer
Sir, what's wrong with me? Other people talk about how powdery iris fragrances are, but when I get my nose on them, I smell no powder what so ever. Is my system immune to iris?
