Also those guys didn't enter the house and were not armed, but came towards the homeowner in a way that made him feel threatened, understandably, and it was meant to be a warning shot.

    This is why you should always have a way to defend yourself if someone is to break in. Waiting for cops is just not realistic when all it takes is seconds to end someone's life.

      @Tyler Roberts Last time I called cops they arrived in 3minutes, and everything was done. They were 1minute late. Though if the dispatcher was more effective could be aruged the Police could have arrived that 1minute earlier, because the dispatcher wasted a ton of time.

      Objective reality doesn't comport to the utopias that exist only in your imagination. You know this. When a bad hombre kicks your door in, the police can't teleport into your living room to solve this problem for you. Like for real, if some meth head is swinging a bat at your kids, you gotta make moves. You don't want to live in a world where you watched someone smack your daughter in the head with a baseball bat, while you fumbled with your cell phone. Eternity in jail is better than that.

      I did not think you are allowed to defend yourself in Canada. A guy I know hit burglar in the head with a shovel on his own property, the cops told him if burglar pressed charges he would be the one in trouble.

      @@AvenEngineer For sure. Anyone who doesn't think the solution to a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun should ask themselves: why would they bother to call the police in such a situation? What is the responding officer if not the good guy with a gun in this scenario?
      The critical difference is that the responding officer is probably minutes away, at best. The would-be victims are there now, and this video is over in less than 2 minutes.

It was also the third time the suspect had broken into the home and the first two times our revolving door of a justice system let him out to do it again.

Even if everything points to the defender having no choice and it coming to being a dead thug or dead homeowner. The crown would nitpick to find anything to charge you and use punishment by process.

      You don't know what triggers people or makes them uncomfortable. Just because you may not be affected by something like this or are okay with crime in general doesn't mean that someone who may have been in a similar situation may not have their anxiety amped up seeing this.       Or what if you were abused as a child and started using drugs because at least that dulls the pain, but now you have a serious habit?

      after being beat with a baseball bat no less! One arm was apparently shattered, he took about 10 hits with the bat before he found the safety on his gun and took it off and got the guy, sounds like just in the nick of time. Also this was the 3rd time the same guy had been in the same house, to rob it. They were just returning from a long weekend getaway because of the prior 2 invasions, one while they were sleeping. Terrible.

Doesn't matter what the criminal code says...what matter is the practice on the ground; how the justice system handle those cases and the impact on the firearm owners' life that will be turned upside down for months or years of fighting for their rights...it is absolutely refreshing to see no charges right from the police investigation stage...if you dont see the sarcastic message written above...keep studying...

      There should be charges. There is no way that firearm was safely stored and then retrieved just in time to confront an intruder. That weapon was loaded and waiting. Anyone supporting homeowners shooting people need to give their head a shake. This isn’t the US.

      @@wcg66 so you were there then and know all the facts? You know it takes like 5 seconds to open a safe, take gun from safe and loaded mag that was beside gun. In 10 seconds it all ready to go. You do not need a trigger lock if gun is in a safe. And besides, so you are ok if the homeowner is killed / raped / seriously injured? In your Canada i guess you are supposed to help the intruder carry things out to his car. If he does not have a car you are to give him your car. Give your own head a shake.

      @@wcg66 Tell that to the guy, who's home was set on fire by burglars in ontario, who woke up to his home burning, seen the three men, unlocked his gunsafe to retrieve his firearm, and shot in the air, and was the only one arrested.

    Doesn't deserve to be charged!! If that was the case and I was in their shoes, I would INSTANTLY deny any wrongdoing and fight it to the teeth.
