Man shoots through door at would-be burglars posing as maintenance workers: video

- A Texas man opened fire on a pair of suspects who tried to break into his home over the weekend in a wild scene caught in doorbell footage.
One of the suspects, Aaron Contreras, knocked on the apartment door of Ethan Rodriguez on Saturday evening and claimed to be a maintenance worker there to check on the filters in his air conditioner, according to doorbell camera footage and an affidavit obtained by Fox Dallas.
Rodriguez, who was inside, answered the door via a digital doorbell app on his phone and claimed that no one was home, the video shows.
A few minutes later, Contreras came back with a handgun and attempted to kick down the front door to Rodriguez’s apartment, according to the clip.
A second man wearing a mask ran up the stairs and also tried to kick in the door, the footage shows.
Within moments, Rodriguez grabbed his gun and opened fire from inside his apartment through the front door - sending the men running.
The resident fired off several rounds and the video shows bullets striking the concrete wall across the way. Contreras fired two shots in response before he fled, according to the station.

Some apartments have a metal door, with metal frame. Very hard to kick down.

They werent going to kick this door open ...with a 80 lb battering ram they could have eventually bent it enough to reach in and unlock it possibly...but the occupants werent about to give them that much time😂
The point is that door frame was properly made
Even better is having an additional " external " door made of pure metal in front of the normal door.
This is the best door protection possible.

If you're renting don't ever let anyone in without notice. By law your landlord has to give notice, so if you're not expecting them, you don't have to let them in.

I've lived in a low crime, rural area my entire life, where our neighbors don't even really have to lock their doors at night. It's not unreasonable for someone coming rom a rural or suburban area to move to the city, and make the mistake of bringing that overly-trusting attitude along.
This is also why you make an effort to know everyone who works for the apartment complex

Probably did that on purpose. He didn't want to shoot through to the other door where someone might be behind there. he shot at an angle, for warning and to not hit any innocent person by accident.
Doubtful that's the reason. He knew they had a gun from the camera so was standing at an angle to avoid being shot straight on through the door.

I'm glad he had a camera, was able to protect himself, and the neighbors weren't in the apartment across the hall.

Whenever i miss my maintenance workers appointment , they just usually leave a note to say that no one was available at the time of their visit. These guys on the other hand are complete professionals and do everything to gain entry to get the job done, even if it means coming under fire .

When I lived in an apt 2nd floor, whenever maintanence would enter with my permission from front office, they would leave a note. Where is the front office people authorizing this 'guy' to knock on people's door? Unless this apt complex is open to everyone who enters. Crazy.

In Europe: We´re glad we have very few of situations like these and in most cases, police call is totally sufficient. And we´re glad, nobody is allowed to carry a gun, so we don´t have mass shootings every day and other incidents related to guns. America is a great country, but this gun situation is just ridiculously out of control. It is one of the mayor reasons many Europeans would not want to move to the US.

The 2nd Amendment was reasonable back when every gun was expensive, fired one shot every 3 minutes, had an effective range of less than 10 meters, and was 7 ft tall, it was hard to lug around. The OP is correct. This is a random spray, like teen gangsters on the street. Holes in the neighbor's walls and door with a spread of 6 to 10 feet and four feet up and down.
As there were no groaning or lifeless bodies there when the officers arrived, that I can see in the video, then the shooter missed.
With proper training and a level head, this could have been much more effective and minimizing the collateral violence. Buying a gun does not make one proficient, nor does just farting around in a vacant lot...but even that practice would have helped.
The gun scared them away, which is 80% of gun defense cases if properly recorded. Of that 80% typically only 20% involve ever pulling the trigger in self defense.
