@@jedidiahhenaku-budu4469 Me too(Pun intended.) But yea, I think enjoying both can say a lot about someone not being stuck on one ideology. Now, of course people can dislike one or both without politics involved as well. The point being, art should never suffer at the hands of the "Political Majority." IMO, the best filmmakers(Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock to name a few) aren't overtly political. They may address past or current ideologies, but they do so without casting judgement. They aren't teaching lessons in morality. They respect the audience and allow them to come to their own conclusions.
The Joker movie has in my opinion brought up the issue of mental health, how abuse can take toll on a person and how we should be focusing on helping these individuals more than any other piece of entertainment in the recent years.
I haven’t seen the movie yet (small town) but the trailer alone gave me this impression, like it was calling some issues to light that certain “professors” would rather not consider, because you know - us men have too much privilege, and don’t have real issues. I used to want to be cryo-frozen until this nonsense was over, but I realized that each age would have its ideological slant, and I may as well learn right now to not give a shit. *_My own subjective interpretation of themes in Joker, that may actually be wrong:_* 1) Arthur isn't political, he's a simple, kindhearted man who just wants to survive and make people smile. 2) The Left/Big Government: He's receiving help through some kind of financial aid, but the meds aren't working that well. He's tried them all, taking a laundry list of meds, and still pleads for more - as if this will actually help him. Tough to say if it's even beneficial and what are the side effects. His "therapist" doesn't actually give a damn about him, it's just a paycheck, but it helps having someone to talk to... possibly? Although he's getting "help", it's impersonal and ineffective. He's alone and forgotten. 3) The Right/Small Government: Due to cut funding, he's off his meds and loses therapy; seems like an awful thing. He goes through some transformation, and although we know the rest of the movie - it's possible for someone in his situation to discover the root causes of their suffering and build a new life - without medication, without therapy. He found his Self. Starts building confidence. But Arthur isn't one of the many on antidepressants/anxianxiety - but seems schizophrenic (or something), and clearly needs the medication to stay grounded in reality. 4) The Left and Right both failed him. He's someone society forgot and willfully chooses to ignore. When he realizes what's going on, he embraces no politics; just chaos. He's an anarchist, a bit of a nihilist. He doesn't blame society for failing him, but doesn't mind watching society burn. He doesn't lash out against those who haven't harmed him personally and directly. 5) Although the movie takes place through the lenses of Arthur the entire time, I think after the movie's over, a good perspective is everyone else's POV. If you see a lonely person out in public, maybe say hello if they seem to enjoy conversation. Be nicer, kinder to people. You have no idea how much this could mean to someone who's utterly alone and afraid, struggling with mental illness and poverty. Arthur is the glass of milk we left in our bedroom for 4 days and willfully chose to ignore it, even after its stench reached our nostrils. It is our job to take care of the widows and orphans - the poor, the sick - and big government and the free market alone can't do that for us. That's our job, as humans, as Christians.

I'm a liberal that loves the Joker. The Joker is a movie with a huge emphasis on society, how it needs to be changed, how the higher class doesn't want it to change and how extremists take it too far trying to change it. It's a movie that criticizes both conservatism and radical liberalism.

I don't like Joker because I hate Hollywood glorifying Heroin Addicts. The only reason they picked Joaquin Phoenix is because he's a life long Heroin Addict, and they were hoping to recreate Heath Ledger's Heroin Addict Joker. It's so obvious and transparent why they chose this guy. And they're also probably hoping he OD's and kills himself with all the money he's making. That'll turn the movie into a hit, because then they can play up the Heroin Addict, and Fatal Overdose similarities between Joaquin Phoenix and Heath Ledger. I just don't care about celebrity drug addicts and I don't think them killing themselves by overdosing makes them heroes.
@@onestopfunstop317 They wouldn't have picked Joaquin because of his record as an actor and the numerous awards he's won.....would they? Nah. No way that would happen. My father-in-law was an addict and it killed him. He was also a very talented bricklayer and ran his own construction business while his addiction started and escalated. His kids hate what happened to him yet they are still proud of the work he does and will point out the buildings that he built with pride of his accomplishments because he did accomplish those things as well. That doesn't mean they're glorifying his addiction. It means that their father was a complex individual as we all are. I'm not a Christian but there is an incident described where Jesus was asked who was worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven. His answer was "No one". That means we're all no better than our neighbour and we're equally unworthy. Judge the work, NOT the person. Did Phoenix do a good job in the film or not? That is what is at issue here, not the personal lives of those involved in the film. That's has always been the tactic of the dogmatic, the demands of the ultra religious.

@@samjames6890 Even if that were true, it's still a good quote. As someone who agrees with 19th century socialists on next to nothing, I can still find common ground with someone like Oscar Wilde that censorship is bad, and often says more about the censor than the censored.
@@sietsejohannes censorship is ultimately the prerogative of the bourgeoisie. It's rather sad that the Joker had been subsumed into the machinery of alt-right discourse, such as it has here. Crowder superficially taps into the truth that capital paints itself with a progressive veneer, ignoring the fact that it's only a veneer, and that it is indeed capitalism which exists behind it. Identity politics of this sort serve the establishment well, and distorts any appreciation for the mechanisms of domination and exploitation which exist in principal relation to capitalism. The left has nothing to do whatever with respect, kindness, and stale identity politics. The Joker is a critical film, therefore aptly described a left-wing or progressive in the proper, Wildean sense.
@@samjames6890 Eh no. Groups from all layers of society can use the power of the government as a tool for censorship, not just "the rich". Also, how is pointing out that Joker (or any other movie for that matter) does not cause mass shootings part of the alt-right discourse? That should be something sensible conservatives and sensible liberals/democratic socialists could agree on. As for the political message of Joker itself, I think it's pretty neutral. Neither the rich elites, nor the anarchist revolutionaries themselves are portrayed as 100% good or evil.
Well it's certainly a movie about rich people fucking over the poor, and the poor responding accordingly. The government, of course, operates in tandem with the rich. You cannot so easily separate politics and ecomics. The bureacratisation of social life coincided with modernity, I.e. industrialisation and managerial capitalism. The state itself functions as a means by which to consolidate and reproduce capitalist social relations. Anyone of sensible politics understands that a movie doesn't cause mass shootings. Any such person also understands that being on the left has nothing to do with governments, making the Joker a pretty left-wing film.
I think we meant that the media budget took it over 100 million dollars, typically the media buy is at least as much much as the budget for the movie itself
Delaney O could actually be a hundred million if you include price of promotion and other expenses after the production of film (usually adds between 50-75%on top of budget) [im conjecturing because WB is backing the film and being a cultural icon like joker it would be heavily promoted)
The Joker has me emotionally twisted up because I had a similar up bringing. No father, abusive mother, my mother convinced me that I was mentally ill because I was depressed about my dad and the abuse I was dealing with. All growing up I was bullied and ostracized. I built my confidence up, made a tile company, started a family and became happy. However things could’ve been different. It was shocking to see an actor portray the reality of a broken man in a broken system just trying to get through the day, only to face the same hell the next day. The movie opens up a serious dialogue about the mental health crisis in our nation.
The left are clowns and have the same agenda as Joker which is chaos, but they are more insane than Joker so they don't have the self awareness to even admit that it's their agenda.
Gryphon Tbh I actually wanted to be killed when I saw it.. as I was hoping a easy way out since I’m too much a coward to die.. and hoping someone would just shoot up the place and wouldn’t be all that bad cuz I won’t die alone as other people would die with me!! “A movie with hundreds of millions behind it” did she even look up the budget if the film? It’s 50 million, if we add marketing it barely reaches 100 million. Truly deserving of a doctorate.
These are the types of professors who fill up the country's "film schools." This is why no one knows anything when they walk out of the doors. You would like to think that out of any type of professor that one who teaches film would know how films work. But alas....
Technically marketing costs about 60 million for a movie like this. Possibly more. Many people always underestimate how much money goes to market a film.

Snails40 lots of movies touch on bullying but I think they’re often very cheesy and surface leveled. Often taking place in schools and with less depth. I thought the movie showed a different version of it. It happens directly to Arthur but it also kind of shows this narc attitude people walk around with in the movie and in real life just in general, where people are called pitiful and weak for trying to seek empathy when they are hurt. the way Arthur did in the end of the movie with the host on tv. I thought it showed how we all treat people who hurt like trash, and how we do walk over people and what happens to people who grow up with those experiences and are never allowed to assess the damage done. Especially when you mix it all with mental illness. I thought it was different in this way.

When I went to a theater that we have been going to for years I quickly noticed they hired security.
When we got to the door they had a sign up that said "no handbags, backpacks, face paint, masks, or imitation guns"

Funny, cause I liked both.

Where does the quote come from:
"Sane people like a movie about a crazy villain. Crazy people hate the movie that makes them look bad."
Spot on.
*_My own subjective interpretation of themes in Joker, that may actually be wrong:_*
1) Arthur isn't political, he's a simple, kindhearted man who just wants to survive and make people smile.

I'm not a Christian but there is an incident described where Jesus was asked who was worthy of the Kingdom of Heaven. His answer was "No one". That means we're all no better than our neighbour and we're equally unworthy.

Oscar Wilde was a commie scumbag, read the soul of man after socialism. Everything he wrote was socialist propaganda
“Hundreds of millions of dollars”
Jokers budget was $55 Million
Thats irrelevant.
I think we meant that the media budget took it over 100 million dollars, typically the media buy is at least as much much as the budget for the movie itself
Advertising budget isnt usually counted.
Delaney O could actually be a hundred million if you include price of promotion and other expenses after the production of film (usually adds between 50-75%on top of budget) [im conjecturing because WB is backing the film and being a cultural icon like joker it would be heavily promoted)

@@jmmproductions6741 I didn't watch the trailer and even I was able to hear through the grape vine the feel of the movie before I decided to watch. I really dislike spoilers (and watching trailers ruin hype moments for me, and as such count as a spoiler in my book) but I can still find out small details to discern if I really want to watch a movie by other means. In the end I found the movie premise for Joker interesting so I decided to watch it, and I enjoyed it.
The only people, that I know of, who didn't enjoy it were primarily people who went in with different expectations due to some level of ignorance as to what the movie was going to be.
Tbf people who consider this movie a masterpiece are probably clowns as much as those who consider it thrash so im not sure where youre coming from with that kind of statement XD
Carlos QC what do you mean? From a cinematic standpoint it was a masterpiece. From the directing, to casting, acting, how the scenes were shot, music, it was brilliant from top to bottom. That alone should keep it from most bad reviews. Outside of that, the actual story line was incredibly thought provoking, it had a deep message with plenty of nuances and likely should have hit you with many different emotions and feelings from laughter to sadness and everything in between. I don’t see what you mean here.
@@bakuwinthro8926 Yeah, some trailers spoil, but the Joker Trailer is a great trailer. It doesn't spoil anything about the movie, yet it still tells you what it's about, and what you should expect.
SWJ: “you took everything from us”
Joker: “I don’t even know you”
"SWJ" 😂😂😂
Social Wustice Jarrior
i Versacington 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 classic thanks
Batwoman? I love Julie neumar
*_YOU STOLE MY DREAMS!_*
Joker made the story the main plot, and the message a side plot.
Batwoman made the story a side plot, and the message the main plot.
The progressive Left: "This Film shouldn't been made."
Everyone else: "Which is why it _must_ be made."
David Foxfire brilliant 🖖🏼
Sounds more like the regressive left.
.................Precisely.
The regressive Right: "All Libtards are idiots."
Most Conservatives: "Shut up! Stop adding fuel to the fire!"
Some Libtards: "This film shouldn't have been made."
Most Liberals: "Go fuck yourselves! We love the Joker movie."
Objectivity is a good thing. ;)
Want to know when a movie is good? Wait for the liberals to start thrashing against it.
Joker: kills 4 guys with gun
John Wick: hold my dog
Brilliant!
Jonathan Culbertson mind blown
IKR John Wick 3 was by far the most violent movie I can remember seeing
@@princessbiker1975 ya well well see that hold up in chapter 4 in 2 years... Cant wait..
No hold my pencil
They don't like it because they saw themselves in the Joker movie.
Possibly, joker is white, socially awkward and hates Rich capitalist. Joker himself didn't feel antifa but the movement he inspired....totally does
They are afraid of that part of themselves.
I just saw it and no joke, when I watched Arthur walk through the protesters and start to join in and feel like part of something, I thought of Antifa straight away. A lot of Antifa/Left wing protesters happen to be outcasts or "losers". It's sort of scary how accurate it was
Ikon West Well they are the villains.
Wasn’t joker all about mental health and what happens when it’s all alone
Isn’t that how you stop mass shootings
Joaquin deserves an Oscar for his performance in “JOKER “. That’s all I got to say about this.
He's not black, ergo, no.
I always saw Joker as lanky and kinda skinnier than most. Joaquin seems too buff for the role.
@@thebr3310 Huh
TheBR3 You could say the same for Heath Ledger’s Joker, but Joaquin lost *40lbs* for this role. Joaquin literally is skin and bones in this movie.
He’s gonna get snubbed... unfortunately 🙄
USA Professor - "we live in a traumatized society"
Every third world country - "what!!!? I didnt know eating everyday was traumatic"
It's a traumatized society...in THEIR minds
A snowflake society IS a traumatized society.
A woman with mutilated genitals peers out of her burka somewhere....
Jim McCracken he talks shit but how come he hasn’t bombed Iran over them shooting down are drone push comes to shove he isn’t as hard as he acts I have no problem with trump but just saying the idea that he wants to blow shit up is probably is true
It's the society they live in. The one I live in is different. They should worry about their own society not controlling mine.

@John Balnis lmao. Don't you mean reality?
@John Balnis no the dirty hippies are on the left.
John Balnis The lefts biggest enemy

@John Balnis
You are a subhuman POS!
I hadn't seen Joker yet, but now I am purposefully going to rent or buy it
I’ve seen it twice. Truly a masterpiece. Even better the second time.
Profesors acting like spoiled kids. Critics who are afraid to criticize. Police serving the media instead of the people.
We truly live in a society.
Sunday S a lot of them have that extreme leftist mindset. It’s hilarious, but sad at the same time.
Most underrated and important comment I’ve heard
Film prof: “we are a traumatized society” Joker: “We live in a society” hmmmm
Lol only a pussy would be traumatized sorry but it’s true live your life people everything else is just background noise
Nick P. Cage that’s triggering! I’m literally shaking right now!
Nick P. Cage smh I’m shaking and crying rn. Also professor film = the joker confirmed???

I'd love to see her reaction if a film like Natural Born Killers came out in the modern day.
dems: "It'll inspire mass shootings"
also dems: i love the movie 'the hunt', it's only *satire*
marilyn xx HAHAHAHAHAH!!
Also the same people that recommend Get Out and love making John Wick films:/
@@mollykate.99 thought Get Out and Us were okay films, loved the 3 John Wick films, still not sure what The Hunt actually is, and i want to see the Joker, am i also a dem?
MOLLY KATE I might not be getting your point, I adore John Wick and think Get Out was pretentious trash.
SharKwORDT95 👈🏻 what he said.
Joker is crazy that’s the point of him. He’s not political and this shouldn’t be an issue.
Hara Isbara have your read Joker white knight? I think that’s the name of it, but essentially joker goes sane and sues the bat.
Hara Isbara fosho, I found it from watching a comicstorian vid, he offhandedly mentioned it and I was like “interesting”
@Hara Isbara Check out on RUclips 'Batman: Black and White - Case Study. You won't regret it.
@Hara Isbara If you argue hes not insane you didnt watch the movie .
@Hara Isbara i love it
They hate the joker? Well well well, doesnt everyone hate the hard truths, when its about themselves?
They are the bad guys, the Joker just holds up a mirror.
Holy shit! He actually said "munching carpet!" Im laughing so hard! Steven, you are so awesome!
Didn’t the shooter shoot the dark knight rises? Joker wasn’t even in that movie
He opened fire on the theater showing Dark Knight Rises, no Joker wasn't in that one and he never ever said I'm the joker. He picked the theater because it was busy and full. He said as much in his journal
So that'd be a ngetavie
general gringo he dyed his hair red but even then the joker wasn’t in the movie soooo
@@ha_joker_ha6337 but I said joker wasn't in Rises
general gringo I know I’m agreeing with you

She just has that look! You know she stinks 😷
rellim92O Yup. It’s almost like all these loonies are possessed by the same entity or something among those lines. The second you see them you KNOW.
Her bangs are bad, I ain't taking her seriously
Joker was one of the best movies I’ve seen in years. It deals with dark realities that should be portrayed. Not hidden because it might cause discomfort. That’s the point.
@Snails40 Weak
@Larry Bird's White Privilege literally all the communists are clowns, u fucking dumbass.
Snails40 Comunist propaganda? Hello what are you smoking? He wanted to become a comedian Not Soviet commissar. He was admiring Murray not Lenin or Stalin. You’re just like the people who were saying the Joker was racist. Now Joker is communist.
9:06 the Subaru key had me dead 🤣
I'm an old black man and I don't like it either. Batwoman, that is.
HAHAHAHAHA you made my day m8!🍺🥃
hallejuah
I don't remember them bitching this much when Suicide Squad came out.
Suicide is an epidemic and it's in the title. Reeee?
The school threatened to kick my grandson out for talking about that movie
Joker was only in that movie for like 5 minutes total
Although I haven’t seen it, wasn’t Django Unchained a movie about a guy going on a killing spree that was specifically racially motivated? Why didn’t the media flip out about that movie inspiring violence?
@Yuri Soyboyka i feel bad for Leto. Ive heard he's a great actor but they gave him very little to work with in that movie.
Tom Hardy as Bane took over a whole “town” holding them hostage with a nuclear bomb
James B prior to the woke leftist culture?
Different time. They'll care about that in 10yrs and try to cancel it
The point is you feel sorry and empathise with the homeland terrorism, that’s why it’s different. I don’t at all agree with the far left trying to censor this, but your comparison is incorrect.
Mitchell Vaughan no one is advocating that, we simply thinks it’s all fantasy and entertainment. You guys are always reaching for something.
James B they haven’t had time to complain about that yet
Back in the day, we used to watch the Bugs Bunny And Roadrunner show, and then go out on the town dropping anvils on people's heads. That was so fun.
"We're a traumatized society." Grow up.
MiniBoogerx what do want? This is what feminists have been preaching for years. She is a victim and you’re insensitive!
Ok really, it’s just another movie and the media is just fear mongering
The bubble society that she lives in is traumatized at the fact that other people don't think exactly the same way they do.
People need to grow some cojones.
@@maddutchman5457 That's why they hate this movie because they think they're the only ones with the right to be hurt.
