I just got my engraver, still setting up the location in my house, and you videos have just filled me with ideas!! Thank you so much for sharing these tips. Can't wait to get burnin'!! LOL
I like that you let the paint dry on it's own terms, it's made to do that and some sheens, lusters, colors just don't develop as well if you rush it. Very nice.
I have canvases sitting around from the "poured acrylic" painting phase I never quite got started with after buying the stuff. LOL. So, this, I can do. Awesome.
This has been SOOO helpful, I have a ton of artwork that I've made on paper that I want to burn on different surfaces and this is the first video I've seen that shows how to do it on canvas and with color. Thank you!
Thank you. Just unboxed my D1 a week ago. Your instruction was super solid and I'm now on my way to having my first completed "hero" piece done. Seriously great instructions!!!!!
Great job. Awesome technique. One thing I do when I hang light weight items like that, i use push pins in the wall. Leaves a smaller hole that can be covered up the next time the wall is painted.
Dude! Love the vid and thanks for the idea. Never thought about using canvas. This just opened up a whole world of possibilities. Guess I'll be spending time at hobby lobby tomorrow to give this a shot.
Your laser content is really great. I just got my Ready2Laser 7 watt diode laser. It's enclosed and I'm working on getting it vented outside. I haven't done much with it yet but I can definitely see me trying some tiles. I may try your system on some painted wood too.
Get a two part epoxy coating mix and pour it over the top about 1/16 thick.. fills the canvas grains and creates a smooth deep colored artwork. Try it... you'll like it... Make sure you level it first.
Very handy tutorial. Got this saved to my Personal Laser Playlist- just gotta get some spray-paint and I'll be ready to experiment- really looking forward to it!
I am totally new to the world of laser engraving and stumbled across your video doing some research on what can be done. I have an Ortur 20W headed my way and your video is exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking to do. Absolute golden example!
It is fantastic. I keep watching over and over again. I have learned that laser reacts with zinc oxide that is in the paint to produce black color. I wonder how you get these astonishing colors. I appreciate your kind reply.
1. It is not easy man 😅 Maybe it is easy for you 2. The whole process takes too much time. So it seems not viable. 3. The costs. So the price of the end product will be high due the costs. So with these costs how can one sell this great end product? 4. This could be an awesome hobby.
I have 3 different clear coats in my garage and they all bubble a lot and don't coat evenly. Got the one you recommended in this video today and it's amazing.
Just found your channel. So neat and it’s convinced me a laser cutter engraver is how I’m going to revive a dead 3D printer (3-4mm bed bow no replacement parts, already crappy) I have several questions, feel free to answer only some of them 1. What should I google to get more info on this technique 2. Is there a limit to how many different colors you can use 3. Is there a power floor/ceiling this works with? I’m thinking of getting an L cheapo mk7 which has a lot more power? 4. Have you found any medium(paint or surface) this won’t work on? Subscribed! Great work!
Hi! I get a lot of my info from the facebook groups I am in. I would find some of those to start! You can do as many colors as you want in and fashion that you want. So they don't have to be overlapped, the colors could be next to each other too! This should work with any diode laser, but you may have to adjust power and speed. Also, maybe several passes may need to be used.
If you resize the image after ImagR you wont get 1 pixel-line per line as it will be too many pixel-lines for the size. Resize in ImagR instead and it will work as intended (higher quality).
This maybe a newbie question but. When doing colors how do you determine the order to apply the colors or does it matter. Great channel and I’ve learned a lot in a short time. Thank you
Thank you! At the slow speed I went it took about 5 hours. You could speed it up and turn up the power to go faster, but do some testing before you do that. Thanks for watching!
I have no idea what you just did, but, I love it. This was in my recommended, so, I watched. I'm sure I'll never do what you do, but, your video was very enjoyable. 😁👍🏻❤
Thank u so much for this video! U explain thing so well and very thorough. I did have one ?. When working with paint while burning; does it get all over your laser? If so, how do u clean it? Sorry for any dumb questions, lol I’m a newby here and literally just got my diode laser today and haven’t even set it up yet! :)
Where does the yellow of the fire come from? I see a white canvas, then orange spray, red then black. Is the yellow fire and whip coming from a mix of colours? Awesome work by the way!
Amazing tutorial, amazing work there. You helped me a lot putting my things together man. I just need to ask how the tile compares to canvas and how is it possible the settings to be the same considering the materials which are they made from? Is it something with the paint coating?
I'm very much impressed! Have you done more colors? For example, like a colorful Hawaiian sunset or A beautiful scene of Tropical fishes in the ocean?. It's probably possible but much more work is required eh? You did a great job of opening the door for me on Laser Art. Mahalo!
Great stuff. But I have to ask; where did you get that FM radio voice? I always feel like you are getting ready to start DJing the Rock and Roll Top 40. You could be the next Kasey Kasem.
hello! great ideas u have. can u tell what did you choose regarding the type of material on ur laser? basswood, bamboo, leather, acrylic, etc.? thank you!
Hey Jim, I know this video has been out for a while, but I just got my laser engraver in November. Ortur laser master 3 10w. I painted up a canvas, and made a tear area on a second one to find the magic number. I actually had to stop the test and drop the max power down even lower, and it turned out to be 3.5% max power. Do you remember if you had to go that low on canvases? I know your ceramic tiles are around 15% from your other video, so I thought this was really really low for some reason.
Great tutorial! I tried it out on wood though (a winecase, sprayed 2 layers red and 2 layers black and burned a picture on it) and found the power setting extremely fiddley, 2% power change steps was enough to burn through none, first or both layers. And that reveals any unevenness in the sprayed layers. Is the canvas more forgiving?
This really is an awesome technique and i am definitely going to do this. I also wanted to sell these but then i realized that there are people digital printing on canvas 😢 Cannot compete with that 😢
Trying my hardest to find your “magic numbers” video that helps with aligning! A link to that would be awesome. I’m a newbie and trying to soak up all the info I can!
I just test every time. You just never know when a paint is going to be different or what colors you want. So for me it's easier to paint the colors I'm going to use in the order. I'm going to use them and then do a quick test.
Well done video. Last one I watched (band logo on tile) I was muttering about using a water based top coat to stop the reaction and boom here it is. Great change. Question that’s been asked but not answer a few times. Burn time on the 10x10 canvas?
Hi, I watch your amazing videos and learn so much about working with my ORTUR OLM PRO S2 laser. I have this video and I want to ask you about the canvas and the colorful spray. What type of canvas do you use and what color spray do you use? As I already understood, these two materials are very flammable and also the paint spray is very toxic if burned or heated. Should you use cotton or synthetic canvas? I will appreciate your answers. Thanks a lot for all of your great videos.
That is awesome ! Will the Creality blue/violet laser engraver produce anything close to that quality ? I am so tempted ! Your creating so many different areas of creativity, I'm spoiled for choice. How do you find any time ? Lol
Good question! You should be able to do some of this with that laser. It's just a very small wattage version of this. I have one, I should try it! And, I am not sure how I find time. No sleep lol JK Thanks for watching!
You definately inspired me! Thanks for this one. Canvas, never thought of that but it is AWESOME! One question: Did you use the magic numbers from the ceramic tile? Or made you tests on canvas too?
Honestly I used the ones I got from the tile. But I would suggest getting a small 3x3 canvas and doing some testing on it before going bigger. It will save your project in the end.. Trust me.. LOL Thanks for watching!
Anymore videos planned bro, coz they are epic and yours are the most informative. Looking forward to the next one. You'll really help me on my amateur journey bro
Man, thank you for your video!! I’m new to engraving, rocking an XTool D1 and I tried your white canvas technique. Turned out pretty good for my first time! Thanks again!!
Hi. Great video and just what I’ve been looking for. I just ordered the Ortur Master 3 and can’t wait to get started. I’ve watched many Lightburn videos and to me it seems very complicated with so many steps involved. My main interest is burning my own jpeg files onto canvas which will not be sold. Being very new to all of this, I’m wondering if there is a easy-to-use/understand formula for what I want to do? Thanks for posting.
Very cool! A spot in the middle of my 4K TV (after burning through a flame resistant screen) is the only thing I've burned with my 3 watt RGB projectors. I'll try this instead. Looks far more rewarding. 🙂
Thanks for the tips. I started painting canvas already but I really didn’t know what to do with the image. Thanks for the walk through. Much appreciated 👍
Very awesome. Were you using air assist for this burn? My first black and white canvas burn was cloudy until I wiped it with a soft damp cloth. The end result was missing some of the base white layers. Just wondering if the air assist is smearing the soot in my case? Thanks.
Dude! The little option to change it to Norton tile and have it change up the image like that is great info. I've been wondering how people easily render an image like that. I have no graphic skills. Thanks man! I'm subscribed and will watch more!
I really enjoy your videos. I have a 70w COO and I'm trying to tiles and canvas but I'm having trouble getting the colors under the black to come thru. They seem to blend with the black. Any ideas?
I just found your channel. I am thinking of doing this when I retire in 2 years for extra income. Have you tried doing this with photographs? Photography has been a hobby of mine for over 40 years and I was wondering if incorporating some of my photos into this technique would be a viable.
Thank you for the amazing tutorial and project. Recreating this for my self and I happen to have the same laser, Will take me close to 16 hours on 12x12in canvas to complete, does that sound about right? nervous about starting such a long burn and wondering if maybe I've got some settings to play with.
For some reason people are not communicating on length of time. I run images at 1200mm/min and it is taking about that long. Faster and the image messes up, distorts or is out of align so I don't know why 10000 mm/min is even avail.
Dude! Your videos on the lasers are inspiring and so fun to watch. My laser is on its way from China and I can't wait for it to get here and get started on some stuff! Git Some Ye-Haw!
Make sure you let the first layers dry, shake the black very well to mix it and don't apply it to heavy. I have seen this too, and by doing those things I have fixed it. Thanks for watching!
I see this come up all the time..... read the directions on the can of paint that you are using. Paints are very specific for the times needed between coats. The paints that are being used here need to have another coat of any other paint applied within the first hour of application of the previous coat. Then any other coats can not be applied till AFTER 48 hours of drying! So any coats applied within that time will have adverse effects. So after you paint all your colors and do the burn, make sure you wait at least 48 hours (2 days) before you clear coat with a solvent based clear coat. It’s such a common thing that I see people struggle with. Read the instructions and very important to do light coats and there should be no issues. Modern day rattle cans have different formulations to the older ones that didn’t have these issues due to lowering VOCs. They certainly aren’t as user friendly.
Would you mind sharing the exact paints you're using? (Even other colors not used in this vid) Links would be awesome to the ones you found work best! Thanks for the awesome video!
I thought you did a video on the white tile you showed in this video but I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere...did you do one or am I just losing my mind??? Definitely could be that I've lost my mind already...LOL! Thanks in advance for any help you or your wonderful subscribers could give me!
I know this is an older video as I've been exploring the world of laser cutting/engraving just this week. I thought this is one of the coolest ideas to get different colors into a laser engraved item. I'm a photography guy so obviously familiar with canvas. Other popular media options for mounting photographs are acrylic and metal. Have you tried painting layers of color into either acrylic or metal and them laser engrave an image? I also think with acrylic you could start with a different color and also use backlighting with translucent acrylic depending on the paint. Would be interesting to see if anyone has tried this.
I just saw your videos and was blown away by the Laser engraving ... what printer did u use? I tried 3d printing and unfortunately had more problems than successes....
I REALLY need your alignment video. My laser is a shit show.....I have to run several tests before burning as to not waste material. I think theres a bug in LB, just doesnt seem right.
Thank the algorithm for recommending this video. You have an amazing option for the lasers.
I just got my engraver, still setting up the location in my house, and you videos have just filled me with ideas!! Thank you so much for sharing these tips. Can't wait to get burnin'!! LOL

Would you mind sharing the exact paints you're using? (Even other colors not used in this vid) Links would be awesome to the ones you found work best! Thanks for the awesome video!
Great job!! Fantastic. What is the colour max do you think?
Jim, so cool! Thanks for the entertainment 😉 and inspirational video! Can't wait to try it 😊😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
That Balrog looks fantastic! 🤩
I thought you did a video on the white tile you showed in this video but I'll be darned if I can find it anywhere...did you do one or am I just losing my mind??? Definitely could be that I've lost my mind already...LOL! Thanks in advance for any help you or your wonderful subscribers could give me!
Another great video. How are you venting the fumes?
I tried 3d printing and unfortunately had more problems than successes....
what are your thoughts on those 40w CO2 laser engravers on ebay? Awesome projects man. Already subbed, keep up the good work.
Great video - do you happen to know what mAmps your pushing at 21%?
Love your work...What lazer are you using?
Great video. Do you have a sample of the image that you used that you can share for us to practice on?
I don't, but you can find it on Google 🙂
@@TheEdgeofTech 😂 lol
Great tutorial but just 1 quick question, can you give me the link to the video where you engraved this onto a tile.
This is the best I've seen yet. Awesome work. 💪🏾
I REALLY need your alignment video. My laser is a shit show.....I have to run several tests before burning as to not waste material. I think theres a bug in LB, just doesnt seem right.
I will put one out soon! There are a few good videos on RUclips about this too.
"YOU SHALL NOT PASS"!
Great cool videos! Thanks..
Thanks for watching!
So freaking cool! This video just got you another sub! I just got a 3d printer and I want to add a laser head to it. Can't wait
Two subs, that is awesome!
Thank you for the tutorial, what settings would you use on the Laserbox? Unfortunately Lightburn does not work with it.
