Interesting chat - I'm a sports doctor and I agree suspicious for a concussion on a background of suboptimal preparation and some mindset stuff. Whether it was or whether it wasn't, as an outside observer, CrossFit is pretty sketchy for some of its care of athletes. The rope issue last year, the stupid sandbags ripe for someone to fall on, heat stroke etc etc. I have worked in contact team sports and we had strict concussion protocols and if there was any question, athletes came off and went down a protocol because their brain health can be seriously impacted by even a single concussion. Anyway, would like to see CrossFit do much better by their athletes.

It’s kinda crazy with his age he could not win this year or even next year and still go on the same winning streak Mat did if he wanted to plus the two he’s already won that’s how young he is, just don’t know if that’s what he wants anymore..

I'm a big fan of Justin. I've always wondered if it was a mistake for him to buy a home away from his coach. He went from living with his coach and winning to having a little money, his own place and some arm candy. Maybe he aint as hungry now.
I think it’s interesting that we now have 3 two-time consecutive winners (Annie, Katrin and Justin) who fell off in their third year. I think Fraser, Tia and Froning just got us used to seeing these 4+ years winning streaks, and the field its too competitive to keep up with that
Froning, Fraser and Tia are pure alphas. Medieros? Not so much. The only thing on their minds is crushing, punishing and destroying the competition every event, every games. Medieros may have won the games twice but a pure alpha will never settle for 2nd and they're always in their best shape ready to crush and destroy at a moment's notice. Very few Crossfitters have an alpha mentality. They are happy if they win but very few are expecting to win every event they enter. I've only seen that from Matt, Rich and Tia. Firstly, great video! 👍🏼 If anyone has watched Mitchell Hooper’s videos “Beyond Strong: More than an Athlete”, minute 19:13, it shows a bit of what the CrossFit Games 2023 meant to the “fittest couple” compared to other athletes. BBQs, parties and God knows what on training days!?! Fun but… I believe only a few of us have the capacity and mindset to became a champion like Rich, Tia, Mat. And because they are so rare we admire them. Scarcity makes you valuable, right? I’m a fan of Justin but not really interested in his life outside the gym if he is not winning any competition. I guess a few CrossFit fans will agree with me.

All I thought of was Justin at least be honest if you’re going to make a video like that. Nicely put together @hillerfit. It’s a least one point of view that makes sense.

Eh he’s a young kid if he wants to go to Australia have some fun and vlog it he should, yeah it might not be a road to winning but he’s already done more at his age than most of the competitors..and commenters will ever do 🤷♂️
Hey Hiller, love the video commentary. Awesome stuff. Let me just say that At this games I did feel like Justin got way too out of shape doing other stuff (traveling, playing on his RUclips channel, etc) instead of locking himself in his barn gym and getting ripped and fit. Idk 🤷🏻♂️ But on event 2 he looked gased. Way too outta breath for an elite athlete. I mean that’s how I look during a workout and I suck at CrossFit (even tho I love doing it)
Hiller you had hinted several times that Justin may have gotten a concussion but there has been no indication that he hit his head. He said several times that his mind wasn’t right the whole season. He didnt have a concussion in the open and in the semi’s.
I think he meant to say people still rooted for him this year despite him not being in the lead. He HAS to know that the only reason ppl are rooting for him this year is bc he won 2x.
I disagree plenty of people have favourites/ fan bases and route for athletes that have never won/podiumed or even finished in the top 10 - Colten being a prime example of this
@@George-C978 valid point, I guess we won’t know how people would feel about him otherwise bc he came on the scene in 2020 when it was a small group then won 2x. Which Hiller is saying that’s why people were behind him during workout 3.
Wouldn't admitting he had a concussion be throwing the medical team under the bus, though? He probably tried to hide it anyway, but if they knew he hit his head pretty hard during the crash, they could have examined him preventively and maybe even medically withdrawn him
i don't think the expectation was for ellie to podium but i did expect her to place pretty high considering she won oceania and did pretty well in the open. i thought she'd start an upward trajectory during this game
Hiller, do you think Medeiros could just become a camille baz or davidsdottir and never actually climb back? 2 and done? Are their similarities between what they did and what Justin has just done?
Good video. I was thinking the same thing when I watched Justin’s video. He is getting away, or has gotten away, from what has made him successful in the past and doing a vlog and taking two months to go to Australia is not the answer

Justin’s had a girlfriend every year he’s been to the games I don’t think that’s a distraction as a lot of people commenting - obviously training partner as well is different but she’s just come of tying for podium at rogue and winning her semis
I honestly do believe Justin was concuss after the bike rider. His entire demeanor on that day was more than just off. I watch his video recap and he was "very"careful with some of his comments. I'm not going to say that the mental pressure didn't get to him, but I have been around people with concussion and they can perform tasks in autopilot but the actual understanding and coordination to movement with mindfulness goes out the window.

Now I’m looking at you side because of your snarky comment of her brand “ Girls Who Eat “. The Dani video was solid. You didn’t need to hit low like the haters that left nasty comments.
Firstly, great video! 👍🏼
If anyone has watched Mitchell Hooper’s videos “Beyond Strong: More than an Athlete”, minute 19:13, it shows a bit of what the CrossFit Games 2023 meant to the “fittest couple” compared to other athletes.
BBQs, parties and God knows what on training days!?! Fun but…
I believe only a few of us have the capacity and mindset to became a champion like Rich, Tia, Mat. And because they are so rare we admire them. Scarcity makes you valuable, right?
I’m a fan of Justin but not really interested in his life outside the gym if he is not winning any competition. I guess a few CrossFit fans will agree with me.
Okay @Colten is a beast - period.
Whats with the Whoop? Are you reviewing it again or did you change your mind about it?
I didn’t ever think I would be liking Mertens more than Medeiros tbh

My boy Corbin
Ya nailed it! He appears confused. I suppose It could be the editing, but why make him look like this. I couldn’t even finish watching his video after they had her spitting the exact same words! All I thought of was Justin at least be honest if you’re going to make a video like that. Nicely put together @hillerfit. It’s a least one point of view that makes sense.
Unfortunately the POV that makes sense is the one not from the individual
I have been a part of the CrossFit community since September of 2016 and it's the longest I have stuck to anything in my life. All this drama surrounding this thing I love is making me consider leaving this community. I'm starting to think the majority of humans seem to just like drama.
Don't get involved then. It has no effect on how you train in your box
Almost 7 years is a nice ride. Farewell if you leave.
Quoting Mick from Rocky "Women Weaken Legs"
The thumbnail kills me😂
Eh he’s a young kid if he wants to go to Australia have some fun and vlog it he should, yeah it might not be a road to winning but he’s already done more at his age than most of the competitors..and commenters will ever do 🤷♂️
Andrew how has TRT affected your ability to throw on some size and have you slowed up on the CrossFit workouts to aid in the process or just ate more?
No one will ever de as dominate or imposing as Fraser. He would never say this shit.
If he's never had a concussion before he truly might have no clue how everything could be explained by that.
Hey Hiller, love the video commentary. Awesome stuff.
Let me just say that At this games I did feel like Justin got way too out of shape doing other stuff (traveling, playing on his RUclips channel, etc) instead of locking himself in his barn gym and getting ripped and fit. Idk 🤷🏻♂️
But on event 2 he looked gased. Way too outta breath for an elite athlete. I mean that’s how I look during a workout and I suck at CrossFit (even tho I love doing it)
He explained that in the video. Remember that time rich had to walk on triple 3s? Sometimes things just go wrong
Agreed, he has not looked to be in shape at all this year
@EvskiiCF he didn't really explain it. Video was vague at best.
I wonder from the brusises on his chest if he was having breathing issues.
People that think blue collar work is an advantage in CF have not sweat for a living a single day in their life.
I imagine justin's team didn't want to implicate crossfit for its (lack of) concussion protocol but he did want to allude to it
Hiller you had hinted several times that Justin may have gotten a concussion but there has been no indication that he hit his head. He said several times that his mind wasn’t right the whole season. He didnt have a concussion in the open and in the semi’s.
Other people said so as well
@@hillerfitisn’t it funny people who consume a FRACTION of the content you do and have zero inside knowledge want to tell you what’s up
Lazar has said multiple x that he landed on his head.
everyone is saying he landed on his head
Zero in the tank. That's me at every workout 😂
Title of the video is a 1000% true. Justin doesn’t have the gravitas to be champion.
We need single madeiros back!!
There it is!!! 😂 but he and Ellie seem like soulmates. Maybe love is more important than success 😉
@@juliebyrne7726 He was dating Ellie last year and won, in fact he’s never been single at the games he’s had a girlfriend every year he’s been so those comments are pointless
@@jessm96297 he had a gf. But they didn’t live together last year. And he bought a new house away from his camp. Everyone knows once you start living together your fitness goes down 🤣🤣
@@jessm96297 he had just started dating Ellie last year and wasn’t training with her. Since the games last year, they live and train together.
What kind of watch are you wearing?
The Buttery Bros are a scourge on the community. God bless Colten.
Sevan ruined justin when he called him chubby.
Pinning this
@@hillerfit now Justin will block Sevan like Laura has, lol.
@@hillerfit crossfitters are over thinkers? overthinking random comments taking energy alway from 24 hrs in a day? 2 minutes is two minutes wasted, my 2 cents
Well sir you’ve talked me out of CrossFit! 😂😂 I refuse to give up my Christmas tree cakes. Kidding I’m more of a power lifter, I do wish I knew more about CrossFit. I feel like with that I’d want a gym of others who do it where at my home gym it’s squat racks, and those big items.
Dan Bailey as in DLBs husband? I think his name is Dan.
Medeiros is Rocky Balboa in the second movie, where he's prisoner of his success. Maybe he did a bit too much partying ...
Rocky III but yea, I agree
I watch the entire dani vid while i washed dishes
Looking forward to the day where we can acknowledge rhat we all have head issues, accept it as a thing for everyone, and just move on.
Justin’s had a girlfriend every year he’s been to the games I don’t think that’s a distraction as a lot of people commenting - obviously training partner as well is different but she’s just come of tying for podium at rogue and winning her semis
Keep that energy.
Vaxx injury..
@hillerfit how dare you! Jk 😂 i love your deep insight on the athlete mind and constant variable upload times. More daily videos hiller
Haha gotcha this time
Emphasis on “like”. Loves it. :)
The convo about height is hilarious. No one, NO ONE has ever won the open over the height of 5’9. EVER…discussion over
@26.47 was the perfect opportunity to include the White Goodman (Ben Stiller) vid, "I know you. You know you. And I know you know that I know you"
Justin is a super likeable guy, but it really does sound like that he needs to fall back in love with CrossFit or he will never be a champion again.
Dani does hate CrossFit
I still think so yes
@@hillerfithaha, a lot of people hate stuff they're not good at.... 😅
