You guys are remarkable. Being an old man where my experience with bikes was in the 1950s what you folks are doing would have been impossible in my days. I don't know how you survive, I would have thought every bone in your body would have been broken by the time to get to your level of expert tees. Ride on guys and gals you give an old man new thrills with what I thought would have been impossible.
Brass tacks is a road cycling term. Old saddles had brass tacks on the point of the saddle. Riders would slide forward to put more power down at the end of the race. So you get down to the brass tacks on the saddle when you mean business. At least that is one hypothesis for the origin.
Huh? I mean yeh you could lie and say something foolish. But this is a very old saying that has been around long before people raced or put the "power down". You are correct that its origins come from upholstery though just not specific to a bike saddle.
It is nice to see Phil pushing his limits and stumbling a bit. After watching him just crush every other trail it is very refreshing to see there is always still room to improve, even at the higher levels.
Phil I have been watching your videos pretty much daily for several months now. I have learned a lot from watching and really enjoy your personality. I absolutely love the fact that you ride with the younger kids and speak so kindly to them. Very rewarding channel you have created.
King of riding with style. Phil if you get to mountain creek this season, can you please try and ride the "Stalker" trail. I dislocated my shoulder this year riding it and I'd love to see how you plow through the rough rocks. Thanks for the video!
You know you're watching a Skills with Phil video when your tongue is dry because your mouth's been open watching him launch it. My goodness fella, how do you do it!? Skills for days sir. Amazing
He's amazing the way he rides blind ... Then how he lands to the day right slightly off the landing. Anyone that hasn't ridden can't comprehend how incredibly difficult that is.
Brass tacks; to start to discuss or consider the most important details or facts about something. *We finally got down to brass tacks and decided to work out a schedule for the project..* Brass-headed tacks were used in the foundation of chairs, so when you went to reupholster them, the tacks were last things you “got down” to after removing the covering and stuffing. Hence, that's when the craftsman was really getting to the heart of the matter. So, there ya' go!

Hey Phil! Your videos keep getting better and better! I like how you started fading in the audio of the riding clips before you switch to them and in general your video quality has been improving so much! 500K subs is not nearly enough for you, you deserve way more!
Just wanted to say awesome videos and thanks for getting me back on my bike. Did my first trail ride in quite some, I have forgotten how much fun it is! Can't wait for the next ride once my bum stops hurting.
@ 3:48 Brass tacks were the last bits a chair upholsterer would have to deal with upon completing a job. So "getting down to brass tacks" means you are getting to the end of a job or (as commonly used today) a negotiation.
Another awesome video 🤘🏽🤘🏽 Whoa!! Another ex-chef!! I went to Culinary school way back at the beginning of the 2000s. Loved it for a long time. But MAN does that job take a toll!
I don't think I ever earned the title chef, I was just a cook. While I liked it at times and learned a lot, I realized I was not passionate about it. Either way, I'm glad I did it, but wouldn't recommend it. I also appreciate every time I go to a restaurant a lot more.
I just took "a look at these berms" and they are looking MINT COOKIE DOUGH BUTTER SMOOTH on ALINE because they have a big budget just for fixing ALINE - ya know, because it's the most famous trail...they usually fix them up a few times a season to get the smoothness at top world class level. Nice video man, sick line choice in the Aline Tech section, amazing jumps and ALINE tree pre-hop into the famous drop! They even have another feature called the ALINE ROCK DROP SIMULATOR!! See you at the Whistler Bike Park next time you are here.
Man, riding with Phil at Whistler would be amazing but he would hate riding with me cause I suck lol. Would still be a bucket list check off though! Another awesome video that makes me want to get out and ride! Thanks for the awesome content!
I know it's just you stating the truth, but hot damn when you're slaying a trail faster than I've ever ridden my local and then casually drop "haven't ridden this trail this year" it's like Damn Bro
I enjoyed that one. It is all starting to feel so familiar even though I've never even been there. Thankfully we are starting to get some really nice trails here in the UK too these days :)
Love the videos! Are you going to North Shore? Get Boostmaster to take to Kelowna ot some other crazy parks around BC. Also the Island has a awesome park!!!
Phil, The next time you are in BC you should see if you can find someone to take you to some of the North Vancouver Mountains (Seymour, Grouse and Cypress). It's been a few decades since I rode them, but it is some of the grnarliest riding you will ever experience. The only thing is there is a lot of climbing involved :)
Ha thanks man appreciate that :) I will say there's definitely much better riders than me out there and every day there's more young, hungry riders who are willing to go bigger.
It was nice seeing you ride with the kids. How about you riding with an upcoming downhill rider on the GT team at where they learned to ride. I know of Ryan Pinkerton, taught him algebra when he was a freshman, ride with him in SoCal, that would be cool to see.
Random question. Does Highland seem more conservative to you in regards to opening up trails? A lot of the stuff you were riding at Whistler would be closed at Highland in my experience. I ride MT Creek as my home base and they will open up all kinds of gnar that sometimes I think should be closed. What's the deciding factor??
you went too hot Phil while you did the lead. And when Ian took the lead, he too when too fast and over cook it. there is a term for it that I remember Nate Hill coined it. I super love your ride that I learn tons from it.
I would just like to get out and ride my bike in the mountain trails, definitely wouldn’t be doing what you guys are doing I would like to go down these trails just a lot slower hahaha.
I really liked when you were riding with those kids. Definitely made their day.
And the kids could really hold their own!
Came here to say the same, thats a memory they will not forget
love to see the lil'rippers man!
Haha definitely. I’m 30 and it’d make my day too
Making friends every lift ride, filming a run with your new crew... So good!
Hoooooooly moooly that fade to black manual. Gave me a heart attack!
I was scared of trying that fit that very reason! 😅
@@SkillsWithPhil literally gasped out loud, fade to black can be real sketchy
I could watch your Whistler videos all day, you beautifully named man! :D
That mini heart attack at 25:57 tho

Phil: You bent your hanger.
Kid: You can fix that?!
Adorable. This is what this is all about. Love helping kids out. Nurture tomorrow's pros.

Holy moly you almost died on that manual to drop! My heart skipped a beat on that.
Me too!! I think i nearly died with him... ha!
Some of the most gnarly and fast riding I’ve ever seen! You’re ripping whistler to shreds like a piece of paper.
The way you find lines on the trail blows my mind every-time. The whole video I’m just like 🤯🤯🤯 also riding with those kids was so awesome to watch🙏🏻
Phil says woo, anyone else hits that tree. Mad man.

He should ride the new redbull step up when it’s done

Is that a double black? I accidentally found my self on Epitaph and that's a brutal trail.

That looks sick. Rode Whistler snowboarding back in 98. Got to get there again on my bike.
I Love it...Phil "I've never done this trail" and then gaps every rock in sight blind into who knows what...epic
He's amazing the way he rides blind ... Then how he lands to the day right slightly off the landing. Anyone that hasn't ridden can't comprehend how incredibly difficult that is.
Phil the sender. How you don’t smash trees on the regular is beyond me. So fun to watch.
Wholesome Phil taking laps with the fans! You love to see it . Would be sick to see you out in Squamish doing some remy Steve yoanne trails!
"Where am I going" followed by a vertical drop of a few feet.. Always amazed by your confidence running these trails, sometimes blind. Keep it up!
You are the best mountain bike RUclipsr. Love watching you videos. Keep up the good content.
