The seats are way too high. I've grown up on BMX, and rriding a bike with a very tall seat is like standing with a cushionup ny ass. It also makes the habdlebars feel lower. And I've ridden a bike with low handle bars. Itls hard to control. I never laughed so hard when Seth told him to bunny hop in the p lot. 2 mins later into the vid this man is pressing into some lips on some heavy jumps!! There are mtb riders I have watched for years on RUclips that have been riding for ever and are not even close to being able to feel that comfortable in the air yet. MAD TALENT!!
Just the thought of tearing down A-Line at Whistler gives me the cold chills and a mild panic attack. Scott definitely has serious nads and the skills to back it up. 👍👍
i have a question for anyone who can answer. i recently got a raleigh tokul 2 and am just starting to do more and more biking. i went to a dh park with this bike and shortly after the brakes broke. should i start saving for a new bike due to my icreasing riding ability, or just kit it out with better parts? edit: im 12 btw so will grow out of it in a year and a half-also starting to do jumps
I would suggest to get a new bike and sell the Raleigh. Craigslist is a good place to look. I got a great deal on my 2012 Santa Cruz Nomad Carbon off Craigslist. $1200.
im still a beginner though and only just starting to jump/ride fast. when i sell my tokul i might either get a higher end hardtail or lower end/older full suss
Seth I've watched every single one of your videos, and I loved this one. I'm getting up there too. I'm 39 and my riding partner is my 14 year old son. When your buddy talked about having to prove yourself at BMX in front of the other guys, but not having to with mountain biking, I really related to that cause I used to BMX too. Really Seth, and I don't comment much, great job with this one.
Hello Seth I would just like to comment this before the comments will be flooded and I just wanted to say that you've really helped me over the past year, my dad abandoned me last year and I haven't seen him since so watching your videos really helps to cope
This is one of our favorite videos that you've put out. Such good storytelling and truly captures the experience and joy that many of us have had crossing over to different riding styles. We're keeping our fingers crossed for a episode 2 with Scott.
It’s amazing to see how he definitely needs a bit of training on the tougher parts of the trails, but can still send the big jumps like they’re nothing. Really shows how the skills translate from one sport to another.
Smzahidul Islam I'll tell you now. Asking him won't get you a bike. And now you've solidified yourself in the group of people that won't get a free bike. As a lifelong BMX'er, I can identify with Scott. Scott needs to know that he can love both BMX and mountain biking. It's always good to ride more than one aspect of biking.
First off, Seth, that feeble bar was a banger. Second, as someone who transitioned from bmx to mtb as well, it’s really interesting to see how it goes for other riders. Amazing stuff.
Great idea taking someone who never rode. Honest take: it started out slow, roped me in, but ended a little abruptly. Nonetheless, great video Seth. As I watched it I thought to myself this guy needs to do a MTB documentary. I’ve had an idea about a feature length documentary about MTB RUclipsrs. I would expect to see a person with a beginning channel, a few in the middle, and a few with big channels like you and your buddies. Really chronicle the path. I think it would be a perfect project for you with your resources.
Scott, Thanks for being open-minded and for your very honest and complimentary assessment. Loved the video. Your honesty makes me want to visit a BMX park.
The last line about feeling guilty for enjoying it got to me. I've been hurt and not able to really ride bmx but I bought my first motorcycle and I've felt the same way about spending all my time on the moto when I normally would be riding the bicycle. Bikes have given me so much but it feels amazing to learn and enjoy a new hobby.
As one person out of your humongous audience, I give you full permission to use this style of cinematography for your future and upcoming videos. I know that in your Park Tool interview you mentioned wanting to get in to short films, and I think that is a perfect path for you. Don’t get me wrong, I still love your hacks videos (by the way, it’s been a while since you’ve done one of those), but seeing this film made me look forward to what has to come to your channel. You’re a huge inspiration Seth, keep it up!
Such a rad edit Seth!! It’s cool to see you share and give back what was given to you....the stoke of mountain biking. Scott is a ripper and he should know he isn’t betraying BMX, but honoring the bike itself by taking his skill set to the trails!
Congrats on 3rd place! You can really tell this was a labor of love and big props to Scott for trusting you to show him a whole new style of riding in a totally different country. Seeing him fly off of those jumps was incredibly inspiring. Thanks Seth
Bmx is my first love. It has molded me, shaped me and helped me to become who i am today. I moved away from the east coast to live in the pnw, and the scene isn’t here for bmx. It isn’t. I still ride. But recently i’ve bought a big travel trail bike and started riding that like i stole it. It made me feel like i was 15 again learning stuff at the skatepark. I too struggled with using brakes and figuring it out from bmx but boy once you do, it’s like night and day.
I raced Bmx for about 22 years almost my entire life, just moved from SoCal up to OR and decided to get a hard tail and hit the mountain, I can’t believe what I was missing out on all these years, I’m hooked. Freaking phenomenal that his first mountain experience was on that sweet ass bike on the most amazing trails in the world, you made this dude’s whole entire universe that is great!
Spent my teenage years riding bmx every spare minute I had and I thought nothing in the world could replace it. about 10 year after I stopped riding any bike in general, I picked up a mountain bike following a friend and it completely changed my view on riding bikes. Always used to think if you aren't doing tricks or riding walls or grinding rails that's not fun or exciting. Now I am so humbled and see myself so little and weak against the mother nature.
He nailed one point perfectly. I've recently start mtb myself from an absolute beginner and have yet to experience any form of mocking or condescension based on lack of ability in the year I've been riding. Any mtb'er I've ever met has always been the nicest person.
The most amazing feeling in fhe WORLD is when you realize your skill set applies perfectly to something that you never considered. Thank you for bringing us to the mountain, Seth!
This was an exceptionally made, a truly wonderful addition to the internet, thank you Seth, for inspiring old and young to go out and experience new things. Keep shreddin* and I'm hoping to head to Whistler before summers end so I should have a video come out on that, who knows. Have a great day.

You got the right idea. I'm a Gamer for over thirty, a Skater for over twenty and a Martial Artist for over ten years. Two months ago I accidentally started Mountain Biking and did my first Bunny Hop two weeks ago. You have only one life so you better put those few years to good use.
What a great video. This gave me the chills (as someone who came from BMX and got into MTB 15+ years after I'd stopped riding). So awesome to see this through the eyes of a pro and watching him get confidence to boost on a mountain bike. Great video Seth and Scott.
Seth, I absolutely loved this video. It's so complete. The background story, the challenge, and the triumph. 10 stars out of 10. Changing the title was a good move. I just watched it for the first time and I've been subscribed to your channel for years.
I've only been Mountain biking for about 4-5 months but I used to BMX 20 years ago as a child here in Austin,TX(raced @Capital City BMX) and those BMX skills have really helped me advance on MTB even tho it was forever ago🤙
This was awesome. Your channel is the best Mountain Bike channel on You Tube. I find myself captivated by all your content because it is so diversified. I always look forward to watching what's next. But this was extraordinary! Fantastic job Seth! Looking forward to finding out if Scott will continue riding Mtb.
I used to race when i was 16-17 years old.. and now that im 40 and recently got back into MTB I feel young again and twice as daring... better shape than ever and really love how much it has opened my eyes and feelings up to everything... Can't believe i waited this long to get going again but so glad i did and so glad to hear someone else enjoying it and really letting the bike take you.
This is dope! I come from BMX but I now ( thanks to you ) ride MTB most of the time. I always knew I was going to ride a MTB as grey hairs came in but was reluctant on doing so because of the cheesy outfits and other ( which I now know to be XC ) stuff ( not that there's anything wrong with XC it's just not for me) . Turns out MTB is what you want it to be. Watching your videos along with Alex's , Brian , Phil and Bobos videos has made me realize you can get rad on an MTB .
Im always mind blown when people say they didn't know what you can do on a mtb... I mean, do you guys not watch the redbull rampage races or pro downhill? Thete is nothing in two wheels like it!
Because jumping mountain bikes feels a lot more relaxed than jumping bmx bikes, between suspension and a nice stable feeling in air compared to twitchy bmx bikes its just chill
I grew up with skateboards and lots of friends in the BMX community and this video is spot on to how most of the BMX crowd views MTB. And also showcases how beautiful it is when the two mesh. That dude was smashing those jumps. Natural style. Awesome video man.
SETH MAN! Next level bro. I’m 40 and shredding harder than I ever have before. This video was so raw. Thank you Scott for sharing your experience with us and welcome brother! And don’t feel guilty unless you take up golf or some silly shit like that.
This is probably my fav seth video. I've walked in those same shoes and since my first MTB havent looked back, i still hop on a bmxevery now again but MTB is soooooo much more fun and rewarding, knowing you can take on anything and conquer the mountain- Best feeling in the world! I could watch videos like this allllll day long!
Really like this. Im getting older and gave up bikes 20 years ago. Im talkin to my LBS about a mtb build now. I see it as good exercise (bad knees) and something i can keep up with easily. Ur channel is one of my ispirations. Thx. From san antonio tx.
Let scott know that there's a ton of awesome MTB trails in ATX! If he hits up "Texas gravity enduro" on Facebook there's a ton of guys that would show him around!
I don't usually comment on videos beyond a thumbs up, but when I do, its because I was emotionally impacted by what I just witnessed. Thanks Seth for putting out these great videos.
Dude. This spoke volumes to me. Coming from bmx first. It's true. You feel constantly pressured in skateparks to throw something big or stylish. And as soon as I started MTB it's like. Everyone is just stoked that you're there. Great video Seth!
Haha I watched many other BMX trying MTB videos, funny how they all started with "I didn't sign up for this" going through rock garden and technical sections. Once they hit the flowy sections and jumps, it became "Mountain bike for life!!"
You know, I find it interesting, because I kind of felt the same way when I stopped longboarding for biking. I thought, longboarding had been so good to me, and now I like biking much better. Don't get me wrong, I still love skating, but biking just feels right. There's a feeling you get on a bike that you just don't get anywhere else. (the same could be said for skating as well) But, at the same time, I don't feel like you're betraying anything. You're just doing what you love and what you feel is right. And I don't think it should be done any other way.
I rode bmx my whole life, and so naive to have such a closed mind about other styles of riding. I’m 30 and just bought my first dh bike yesterday. Everything I know about riding is out the window when I get on this thing, it’s a whole different world. And the Mtb community actually seems more productive than bmx community.
I love that quote that “you’re rewarded no matter what”. He is right, and that’s one of the things that continues to draw me back to the trails. Even on my “bad” days when I feel totally out of the groove I still find my self with the biggest smile on my face. It could be a tiny rock drop, a nicely shaped berm, a gnarly double, or anything in between and you’ll still hear me hooting and hollering my way down the mountain. Good stuff right here!
Thats exactly what happened to me. Went to BC with my wife and kids after being a BMXer for more than 15 years. Only rode XC/AM on Hardtails before. Rented a full sus, rode some trails, and it just clicked. Now I'm an Enduro racer, and take my BMX tricks to the forest trails :-).
I felt his pain starting out on the trails.. everything was scary difficult. After road riding most my life I wanted something different.. I am a beginner mountain biker now but started a little late.. being 69+ , I might be a little crazy.. Nice job Scott..
I have come to a point in life where I just picked up every sport I ever liked again, after a few years not doing it so much , but I am in love with transitions of every kind, that is what I see everywhere: Hits & landings, hits & landings, everywhere, all terrain, all weather, they sometimes become secret monuments to personal glory.
Brilliantly produced video Seth! And it is so cool to see a BMX master from our age transitioning to mountain biking and loving it! Keep up the great videos!

Of all the aspects of mountain biking, simple jumps like that would transfer the easiest from BMX

Mububban23 as long as you don’t take up golf. That’s when you know your time is almost up 😜
That honestly could be a famous quote.
Hey I'm a computer nerd who loves MTB too
@@celestialsss Another one here! For more than 20 years now!
Dang it’s 1:02 am the night before school starts but Seth’s posted a video
Terence Addrison haha seths vid is more important I like that
No school in my country all the Middle and primary teachers are striking expect for at my school because its privately owned
Lol it's August? Why is school starting so early for you??
Scottish schools have been off for 7 weeks go back either Wednesday , Thursday or next Monday
Your fucked dude
I used to race when i was 16-17 years old.. and now that im 40 and recently got back into MTB I feel young again and twice as daring... better shape than ever and really love how much it has opened my eyes and feelings up to everything... Can't believe i waited this long to get going again but so glad i did and so glad to hear someone else enjoying it and really letting the bike take you.
I keep coming back to this video. Definitely one of the best in seth's catalogue
4:28
Planes: am I a joke to you?
🤣🤣🤣
Hahahahahhahahahaha
Hahaha 😝
He went from a beginner jumper to jumping and clearing Aline in one day HOW.
Owen Connell bmx background fella, I’d say a lot of pro bmx riders would do the same thing with a little practice on the mountain bike
It's not like he was a beginner bike rider - he's used to being in the air on 2 wheels
Because jumping mountain bikes feels a lot more relaxed than jumping bmx bikes, between suspension and a nice stable feeling in air compared to twitchy bmx bikes its just chill
most mountain bikers suck! its insane how mountain bikers are very ignorant and dont know anything while most bmx riders know everything
Agustín Echevarría wtf are you on
Thanks for the encouragement, now I am starting my own mountain biking hobby.
I grew up with skateboards and lots of friends in the BMX community and this video is spot on to how most of the BMX crowd views MTB. And also showcases how beautiful it is when the two mesh. That dude was smashing those jumps. Natural style. Awesome video man.
to the 51 thumbs down.... Go Home your Drunk! That was F*%king Rad.
Headwaters Kayak they are probably golfers or roadies
must b bmxers
Go drunk your home
You’re lol. I feel the same tho
Holy crap I remember you guys from the. I was 16 at greenlawn ahaha, Scott looks great glad you guys are doing good and I dig your channel bro!
Someone is hooked! Great story Seth.
“ I would just push into the lips as hard as I can, then I would just yank back.” Lmao
Hey Seth this video should be like hour long I could watch this all day man
Is that Greenport, NY I spotted in the first couple skatepark clips?
Really like this. Im getting older and gave up bikes 20 years ago. Im talkin to my LBS about a mtb build now. I see it as good exercise (bad knees) and something i can keep up with easily. Ur channel is one of my ispirations. Thx. From san antonio tx.
I don't comment a lot on RUclips, but This format of video is one that I am happy that you used. excellent story telling.Keep up the good work.
Seth your the best youtuber ever and i subbed liked and turned on notifications
Let scott know that there's a ton of awesome MTB trails in ATX! If he hits up "Texas gravity enduro" on Facebook there's a ton of guys that would show him around!
Its weird seeing your name writen down on people's videos even if it's not you.
XD
Scott Smith wait... it’s not you??? Damn you totally had me too. Haha
This old man of 55 gets butterflies in his stomach when I watch guys sending it. Kudos to both of you!
I don't usually comment on videos beyond a thumbs up, but when I do, its because I was emotionally impacted by what I just witnessed. Thanks Seth for putting out these great videos.
Where is mountain biking explained??? That series was great for a beginner like me. You never did get around to basic bike maintenance.
GETREKT he stopped doing it because of commenters:(
GETREKT they made fun of his sister
GETREKT go to REI they have bike maintenance classes for free sometimes
check out the GMBN tech show or park tools they have loads of video on bike maintenance
Aww man thx for the info thats sad😞☹️😞😒🙁☹️😞
"Brakes are for going slower" LOL
Goddamn, that was great.
(the same could be said for skating as well)
But, at the same time, I don't feel like you're betraying anything. You're just doing what you love and what you feel is right. And I don't think it should be done any other way.
This might be that latest you’ve posted Seth. I don’t care though, an SBH video is always great.
If this was my firs experience on a mtb🤔 I would be Danny mac😂
I could watch this a hundred times and still not get bored. so good! love the new format (even if you don't use it again)
Seth, I believe you have achieved a next level of editing and telling stories. I am fascinated. Congratulations and kudos to Scott.
If he's on for jumps on trails, then he should ride a slopestyle bike
Bro they took him on A-line right off the bat 🤦🏻
I'm assuming they hit other trails before but had a time limit and cut it out. He's also a very competent jumper so its not too crazy
Dude this was actually super touching and an amazing video.
Got here at 42 views, 3 days later 900k
Are you a time traveler?
Bruh I am time...
Lol was going to say same thing. Still hasn't been up for 2 full days and yesterday it was 3 days old for Taylor?
"Someday I'll take Scott out for a proper climb, and show him about suffering."-Seth
"breaks are for going slower"
And school is for learning how to spell "brakes"
Major Tom
Ya Got the memo jackass
Chill dude, just dont skip school to go BMX with your friends.
Desmond moonbear Actually breaks are for going faster ;) Of you would know anything about the technical part of biking you would know that.
I know I’m eight months late but awesome dude! That must be really fun!
Great story, great editing, and a great message! I think this is my favorite video of yours yet.
I think this is one of your best videos Seth. It really touched me
I felt his pain starting out on the trails.. everything was scary difficult.
Great video! I felt her genuinely enjoyed himself and discovered a new passion. Props to you for this gem!
