I have two, both by the same author Jennifer Fallon. From Wolfblade " It was always messy, cleaning up after a murder" and from The Immortal Prince "Hope seemed an odd emotion for a man about to be executed, but that was the only name Cayal could give the thrill welling up inside him as they led him up the steps of the platform"
Both books are great and the start of fantastic series, now if only book 3 of her latest series would come out! It's been 5 years already!
Anyway great video. Made me want to go back and look at some the opening lines of my favourite books!
Both of those are great opening lines! Especially love the second one
Another fantastic video!!! Thank you!!!
The building was on fire, and it wasn’t my fault.
- The Dresden Files
Oh boy what has Harry been up to now. That’s a great one!
Great idea for a video, thanks!
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe has an even better opening line than Hitchhiker's (although it's not just one sentence):
The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
Ahhh I love that haha
Yes, The Chronicles of Amber is worth reading. The books are short, but very evocative in classic Zelazny style
Good to know! I’ll have to check it out then, thanks
The kingdom of liars has a snappy first line. Nick martell became an auto buy author after I read his debut in 2020
Nice I didn't know you would make a video on the insta story Question
I like to add some from those to make the lists more comprehensive!
Hello 👋 great video 🎥🎧
Thank you!
“They tried to kill me 4 times before I could walk.” “seven before I held any memory of the world.” We ride the storm by devin madsom

Reading vlog? Maybe a day or a week. Would be cool to see how you find time to read and what else you do👍
I’ve been tempted to try that. Might give it a go!
@@the_fools_tale maybe do a licaneus trilogy read along that would slap
I have read the prologue from Way of Kings once back when i first started reading adult fantasy i enjoyed it immensly. But then suddenly you get the POV of Kaladin and after like 6 chapters i quit. It was nothing like the prologue. Little did i know that that was normal in Fantasy. I plan on retrying somewhere this year.
I like the opening line of Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft best: "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."
Red Sister and Gunslinger are also dope of course.
And the recurring "The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass..." line in the WoT books always evokes such a cozy feeling for me... also an all time favourite.
The wheel of time opener is so classic and cozy feeling! Agreed
I knew I could trust you to put in RR.
Hahahaha of course!
“Let's start with the end of the world, why don't we?”- The Fifth Season
I write down characters and how a book made me feel. Often i forget stuff lol
That’s a good way of doing it. I always have to pick up the book again when I’m reviewing it haha
The opening lines of The Final Empire and The Gunslinger really have stuck with me for quite some time. Wheel of Time too.
I loved the opening line from Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. Highly recommend that book:
"Ask me not if God exists, but why he's such a prick."
And the start of the actually story (much like Wheel of Time) was good too:
"It was the twenty-seventh year of daysdeath in the realm of the Forever King, and his murderer was waiting to die."
How could I forget Empire. I do like that opening line haha
Enjoying your channel very much! But I unfortunately couldn't enjoy Nevernight's opening line, because I know from my work (EMC) that this idea is just something that the public tell each other. It's actually very rare for people shit when they die.
"I will not allow the killing of the lesser one's to satify one Corpuii notion of authority."
Oooo that’s good! What book is that?
@Andrew Watson hehehe, its title is 'The Sheeved'. I wrote it years ago. My concept was an afront to the new Marvel universe stereotype superhero.
Glad you like it, not sure if it is available anywhere anymore.
@Andrew Watson I am wondering if you would like to give the book a read. No one really bought it, and it was never reviewed. I can send you a digital copy as your literary opinion would be greatly appreciated. No stress, I write regardless of publishing, just want people to like what I write. Thanks, Darren.
That is a cool opening line! Unfortunately I’m back to back with review requests currently
@@the_fools_tale Fully understandable, thanks for your ongoing content and commitment to the literary arts.
More people should be so enthusiastic.
I swear if I watched this entire video and you never mentioned The Gunslinger, I would've screamed 😂😂
It’s too iconic not to include 🤣
@@the_fools_tale Wait ‘till you read the series. You ain’t ready😎
Burn this book.
Mister B. Gone - Clive Barker.
Intriguing opener!
@@the_fools_tale The premise is there is a demon trapped in the book trying to get you the reader to burn it to release him.
