STOPPING THE BOATS

  • Despite attempts by the House of Lords to delay and overturn the Safety of Rwanda Bill, it has finally passed through Parliament and will now become law within days.
This will play a major part in deterring people from crossing the Channel illegally, and it will help break the business model of human trafficking gangs.
Airfields are on standby, planes are chartered, hundreds of specialist staff are ready - now the planes must take off as soon as possible.

There wasn't a small boats problem until this Tory government decided to manufacture a culture wars issue by refusing to actually process any asylum claims, creating the backlog we have now. The solution is to take up France on their repeated offer to have the processing centre in Calais, and actually process claims. Those with a valid claim can be safely transported to England, abiding by international laws and conventions, and those who fail to qualify, if they try to subsequently reach England, can be picked up and summarily removed, again in accordance with international laws and conventions. It's that simple.
The Rwanda fiasco on the other hand is nothing but a continuing attempt by the Tories to exploit the wedge issue they've created, now encouraging British citizens to want to leave the ECHR under the bare faced lie that this will somehow make it possible for them to carry out the Rwanda plan. That plan, to send 2-300 refugees to an African country with an abysmal human rights record of it's own, currently engaged in armed conflict with sections of the Congo next door to it, has already cost the British taxpayer approximately £2million per refugee, paid in advance. Additionally, the agreement with Rwanda allows for them to reciprocate with an indeterminate number of their unwanted refugees. The Tories don't mention this fact either.
Their push to remove the safety of the ECHR, and the removal of human rights from British citizens is the next step in their fever dream of Singapore-On-Thames, after successfully eroding many of the worker's rights and protections in this country, the point of Brexit. They claim the removal of the ECHR will allow them to get on and deport people without breaking long standing international agreements. It won't. It isn't the ECHR that has been holding back this plan, it was deemed illegal (rightfully so) by our own Supreme Court, and yet the Tories want to push it through regardless, and con a sometimes gullible public to remove their own rights to support it.
In addition, removal of the United Kingdom from the ECHR, which is administered by an international court, which includes British judges on it, is always portrayed by the frankly xenophobic Tories as a 'foreign court, residing in Strasbourg', again trying to stoke xenophobia. It will also wreck the Good Friday Agreement, which brought peace and prosperity to Northern Ireland. which the Tories don't actually care about, hence their always talking of 'Britain, or Great Britain, but rarely, if ever, of the United Kingdom, which for the benefit of any internationals reading this, consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The trashing of the Good Friday Agreement will hasten the end of Northern Ireland as a separate entity and the reunification of Ireland, but not before earning the ire of both the USA and the EU, the other major signatories and supporters of the Good Friday Agreement.
Tories are evil. The current batch are evil and stupid. It's disgraceful and brings shame to the United Kingdom.

"Every decision-maker must conclusively treat the Republic of Rwanda as a safe country." Why stop there with your farcical act... You can pass more bills to declare many of the Tory failings as not being in existence... Here's a few to start you off....
    - The No NHS Backlog Bill
    - The Roaring Economic Growth Bill
    - The Flourishing Housing for Youth Bill
    - The Integrity, Transparency and Professionalism in Government Bill

Common sense would suggest that risking your life crossing the Channel in a dinghy is a far greater deterrent to asylum seekers coming to the UK than being sent to the supposedly safe country of Rwanda. In other words, the whole Rwanda policy is utterly pointless and a repulsive waste of taxpayer's money given how much money is needed to repair this country after the state the Tories have left it in.
Out of interest, will it be some Tory donor who will be providing the planes that will be used to fly the asylum seekers to Rwanda? (At vastly inflated prices of course.)

At least the "evil people smugglers" and "criminal traffickers" are taking people were they want to go. The illegal Rwanda scheme is dumping them where they don't want to go. Ethically there seems little to choose between them.
Besides, the people getting into the small boats have already undertaken long and dangerous journeys to get where they are. If they were easily deterred they'd already have given up. A one in two hundred chance of being sent to Rwanda isn't going to scare them.
Of course if we'd stuck with the _status quo ante_ of the Dublin Accords, there wouldn't be a small boats crisis in the first place. But no, we had to have the flounciest possible flounce out of the EU.
