  • In todays quick look review I have the newly released Tamiya 1/48 F-35A. Another gem from Tamiya, or just overpriced and over hyped?

    wouldn't worry about the tape , it is not evident in recent photos of F-35 . as a pensioner , price is going to be a big factor in not buying this .

    Looks like a great model, I have the B version and will probably get this one as well but I REALLY want the C and am hoping Tamiya obliges me. The seam down the center of the clear canopy parts is in fact a seam. It is a result of accurately molding the blown cross section of the Canopy. Very easy to clean up and buff out.

    It's a collection of doors flying in close formation - this proves it !

    It does look good but not a kit I'm rushing to want to build, nothing against Tamiya just not a big fan of the actual aircraft,I did build the new 1/72 Academy A version and yeah it's not the most good looking aircraft unlike an F16, interested in Tamiya's paint mix for the fuselage main colour,I used LP 15 9 parts and LP 11 1 part for mine.

    Great review, thanks for sharing! It seems that only the US and Japanese AF versions have the differently coloured RAM panels, all the rest are in one-tone grey, so maybe better choices for those who would prefer a more bland finish over millions of hours of masking 🙂. Having said that, we have started seeing photos of very weathered F-35s, so good opportunities to make an interesting scheme, whichever AF one chooses.

    Meh, as an aircraft type it just does not rock my boat but as kit, well it oozes quality and I sure will enjoy watching your build - hoping you do the JASDF version? I do love the pilot figure, he looks suitably ominous, JDAM great revue as ever though. Enjoy the build and comparison with Italeri Jen.

    I built the Meng version as RAAF 77SQN. It nearly put me to sleep. I fitted two JDAMS in the weapons bays simply to cover up the lack of detail. Nothing wrong with that kit, (well, the wings are seperate to the fuselage) but this one blows that one out of the water. I’m very familiar with this aircraft (I worked on them for three years) and I simply can not fault any detail in the Tamiya kit. Stunning. But I won’t build another F-35. By their very nature they’ve managed to make the most exciting aircraft I’ve worked on bland, grey, featureless and uninteresting.
    The last thing I did before my medical discharge was to kiss one of these aircraft on the RAAF roundel’s kangaroo. It tasted like....regret. 🤢 At least I can wear a smart watch now. 🎉
    Great review, Jen. It’s the first time I’ve had a proper look at what’s in the box.

      can't get much enthusiasm for F-35 grey on grey , you can't even tell who owns them anymore !! Best regards from Wales ( Old South Wales , that is .)

      @@JenesisDesignsandModelcraft I’m afraid not. Strict security: All photos vetted, no phones, no smart watches. I asked to wear a mechanical pedometer in the months leading up to my spinal fusion operation ....It was denied. I was a good airman and followed the rules so I have nothing at all.

    Pre-covid I walked all around a Marine one at Miramar...it's ugly from every angle. I just have no love for this aircraft.😅 Now if Tamiya would come out with a Viggen...😍

    • @VNAV_PTH
      @VNAV_PTH Год назад

      Yup, we need a good 1/48 scale Viggen. I've built the Revell Viggen in 1/48 and it was horrible. Old school raised panel lines. The decals were good though. I want a good 1/48 scale Gripen too.

      @@VNAV_PTH Try the Italeri 1:48 Gripen , I think you will like it . ( you can see mine on my channel ..)

    • @johnmarley6695
      @johnmarley6695 Год назад

      Yeah, I’d do a Viggen. If someone makes a camouflage mask set, I’m there!

      @John Marley DN Models makes one in 48th, and 32nd for the JetMads kit. I have the kit, but not sure about doing the splinter on the JA version. The Tarangues/Special Hobby kits are good, but have some odd mistakes that are incomprehensible considering they had a Viggen in a museum to use as a basis. I'd definitely get the masks for the 48th scale AJ versions. I'm getting their mask set for numbers and lettering for the 32nd one.

      @@fredtedstedman I built the 1/48 Italeri Gripen in the classic two-tone grey paint scheme for the Swedish Air Force. Something wasn't right with the decals provided. The dark grey isignias were too light and screwed up the build. I have tried to find aftermarket decals to fix it but am unable to find any.

    Nice video. 2 canopies because the frames are moulded for closed or open and it’s interchangeable. I have this kit. Looking forward to your build.
