funnily enough, I had a similar pre-order: ordered, confirm....dead silence. start seeing people building theirs and get a little nervous and suddenly...on my door step when I step out to take a walk one afternoon last week. Great review as always, thanks!

i am really exited to live in this time when there are so cool models with such incredisle level of details. New Tamiya F-35 absolutely blows my mind, because i'm still suffering with 10+ y.o. kits from Zvezda, Amodel and MikriMir... The only relaxing kit in my stash is Airfix' Spitfire pr19 1/72 buuuuuuuuut i build this gem too slow because i'm afraid to scrap it( yes, i kniw that without practice my arms won't be more straight. Thank you, Nigel, for review, i do like your videos.
(i wrote such a big comment in English, i'm proud of myself ;) )

The decals are very intimidating, I may just get a paint mask for mine although that isn't very easy either.

Hello from Florida Nigel! Great review of a great kit. I have the Kitty hawk F-35C in my stash. I went through the box for the KH kit it looks great as well. I purchased a resin cockpit, metal landing gear and Canopy masks for it. I will have to bring and start to build it. I have been on a Armor roll of building. I hope you and Jess have a great day!

  • @andyrichardsvideovlogs8835

You get two canopies so you can swap them between open and closed when you feel like it. Similarly the flaperons just plug in according to your mood.
As you mentioned the Italeri F35B in passing it is nowhere as good but it is a 1/48 F35B which basically is your only reason to buy one and you do get 617 Sqdn markings.

Hi Nigel, i got one as a Christmas gift. Very nice and I might wait to build and follow along when you build it. Also I am hoping decals for a Canadian version come out as we are getting them as it stands now, but who knows as Canada already canceled getting it once before. Cheers

Nigel, after the lanc and spit builds it’s time to build one that “falls together.” It is probably well engineered. The challenge on this one may be the painting, masks, decals, etc. I haven’t built a modern plane in years. Have focused on the prop planes of WWII. More colorful and interesting to me. But, have been considering this one for a change. Thanks for the review.

I’m building this atm, the fit so far is simply incredible and nice range of air forces to choose from, I’m doing the Norwegian version with drag chute
The only let down so far for me and a few other people I know said the same is that the cockpit decals were a joke, basically no adhesive at all…I eventually had some success with the Mr Hobby Neo solutions and Tamiya Mark Fit Super Strong!
I also have those MRP paints waiting just for this kit!

Hi Nige, another nice review, may have to wait a while for that to be added to the stash. Don't know if you had a good look at Time Tunnel's store, but I know you like your large Russian military models and they had some seriously discounted Trumpeter models (under other makes ). Maybe worth a look 🤔

So far my interest in "Fat Amy" has been below freezing, but I do think that Tamiya is about to change that. This kit is destined to leave my bench in Norwegian livery, it is lovely to finally be able to build a kit of an airplane I have actually seen in flight over my home turf.

Really looking forward to when you start your build….I’m sure you’ll have some great hints ‘n tips! It’s going to be a beautiful model 👍

It looks like a cracking kit Nigel. Not for me though. I am hoping they do the version that the RAF have. You kept saying that its not a very big aircraft. But looking at it, I think that 1/48 Super Hornet I am doing is not that much wider than this aircraft. I would be very careful with those Tamiya decals. When I built their 1/32 F4-J Phantom. I had a right nightmare with some of the decals. Especially the big ones like walkway decals. Ended up having to paint my own fuselage walkways, because the original decals just broke up on me. Large Tamiya decals can be a right pain to put down. Anyway, I look forward to you building this one Nigel.

@@NigelsModellingBench If you have a PC and a scanner, I would scan the decal sheets before you try to use them. That way, if any break up, you can print out new ones of your own.

It’s an awesome kit. I bought 2. One will be fully closed, the other one with open doors. I would suggest to get a decal sheet from Furball or so for the USAF version, it has up to date 2020,2021 versions. The newer versions do not have the RAM coating in a different colour and more.

  • @nickbrough8335

I like Tamiya design and fit, but I think its starting to get just too good now. Even I (who lacks all the skills you have) find snap together kits just a little boring. The detailing in the weapons bay is fantastic though. They really do need to follow through with the B and C though.
Maybe Tamiya has rescinded its decision to avoid modern aircraft and we can expect an F-22 etc (what would we do for a Tamiya Su-27 family member).

  • @seanconservativeburke
    @seanconservativeburke Год назад +2

I, have this kit ......and it's great fantastic , but for my taste it's slightly tooooooo small ? I ,wished they would make a 1/32 scale to go with my line of 1/32 kits

On the real aircraft they are stencilled on, in kits they are decals to represent the stencils. Stencil is correct here.

To be totally accurate, the FAA don't have F35s of any variant. They only have helos now. The F35Bs are RAF and currently allocated to 617(Dambusters) Sqdn and to OCUs.
