    Love those "side of the road" finds! This shows the importance of having a leak-down tester. Nice work, and thanks for the video!

      Saved another one from the scrapyard! That leak-down tester has definitely come in handy more than once👍🏻

    You did good Hester, she's a runner!!
    I've never worked on a walk behind with a clutch so I'm sure I'd do the same thing as you. 🤣👍

    That was fantastic! I never would have found the compression (exhaust valve issue) no oil blow by and smooth runner! Outstanding job!

    About the "who would waste their time" thing, I was so confused. I was like this video was just gettin' good! I think this is my favorite video you've done so far. I feel like there's a lot of them out there where the carb just needs to be cleaned, not very often you get this deep. I've never seen the air leak tool and I've only ever someone slightly adjust valve springs before so this was really informative!

      Thank you! I just figured I’d throw a little humor in there lol. Some people are always quick to say I’m wasting my time with things but my time is mine to waste how I see fit 👍🏻. Thank you for the feedback, I like knowing what people like to see

    That’s a good candidate for a repower video. I’ve saved a lot of $ doing that over the years.

    • @hester781
      @hester781  7 месяцев назад

      I honestly thought about it! However I’ve never re-powered one of these, what is your go-to motor? Is it expensive?

      I’ve used Harbor Freight Predator engines a handful of times. Good price and run very well. 20-30 percent off coupons help.
      My favorite repower option are free engines. I find a somewhat steady supply on Craigslist free stuff and market place free stuff. Old push/ ride on mowers, snow blowers, and occasionally rototillers etc.There’re also good candidates to fix and flip. I average about $100 for a push mower and around $300 for a ride on.

    Hey, JD!
    I’m actually charging my first electric start push mower battery as we speak! Machine’s been sitting outside wrapped in plastic for almost three years, so I’m not expecting the battery to work, but I have to try. Fired up and ran for the first time yesterday. Just ordered $70 in parts to complete this almost pristine 2012 Cub Cadet SC300E mower. I’m expecting to flip it for around $300-$350 when I’m done. Big maybe! 😂
    Interesting that your cylinder is ovaled out and compression is still average. Maybe just the piston skirt is worn. ???

    • @hester781
      @hester781  7 месяцев назад

      There’s always going to be a bit of back and forth movement on the piston because the piston is oval shaped to allow for expansion when it gets hot. In this case I was just searching for a smoking gun and thought it may have been excessive. I’m sure this unit has some hours on it but it not burning oil yet👍🏻! (Knock wood)

    Are the pistions usually loose like that.I would think it wouldnt last that long idk.

    • @hester781
      @hester781  2 месяца назад +1

      So like everything else it's a spectrum. The very top of the cylinder is going to have the most wear in general, that's why you rock the piston back-and-forth when you're at top dead center. Generally you will always have a little play. The amount of play in this piston was borderline excessive. However some of that play will get taken up by expansion of the piston after a few minutes of runtime. This particular Mower ended up with my neighbor and he has been mowing with it ever since with no issues 👍🏻
