Finally, someone else who says high school wasn’t really that fun, but also acknowledges it was kinda fun at the time. I don’t look back on high school fondly, but at the time I was thinking it wasn’t as bad as it could be.

One hundred percent, middle school was such a nightmare for me that the high school experience was...well, not better but sucked in a different way. I also did not go to prom or participate in any sports/activities, so. That was a thing.
Elementary school to middle school were absolute hell for me, likely because I kept getting stuck with the same classmates from 2nd grade up to my last year of middle school and they were pretty much all horrible to me, come high school I was rarely in the same class with anyone else since everyone had different classes they went to and I had a group of friends in highschool. I probably would've managed to finish high school had I not hit a mental wall, the moment I learned I could dropout and just go get my GED elsewhere I did it, best decision of my life as I spent what would've been my junior and senior years of high school at home, playing video games and watching anime getting the much needed mental break. Middle school was the worst because of the three as the constant bullying took such a toll that I developed an aversion to going out anywhere to the point of getting physically ill if I needed to go to school or go out somewhere....
any time I think "hey schools aren't modelled after prisons that much" I hear about stuff like "isolation rooms" and get back on track (my highschool literally used to be a former "reeducation" youth prison. go figure)
@Pingo its so normal in every school in the uk aswell mine was the same thing, you either went to "reset room" where you missed two lessons to sit there in silence and do your work or you went to isolation . its so sick.
I’m lowkey jealous of those, if i could just do my work alone at school that would be a dream, i don’t get in trouble I’d probably ask for that lol
The school to prison pipeline is a documented reality in America unfortunately, especially for students of color. In my Education courses in college we talked about how the state prison systems use Third Grade End-of-Year test scores to ballpark many cells they'll need in the coming years.. We also had ISS (in school suspension) growing up, which was what Jesse described as isolation.
@@ireadtoomanycomics Kids need interaction and stimulus though. Many kids are in isolation ALL DAY. Meaning no break times, no leaving the room for lunch, no getting up to stretch your legs. Even the staff won't talk to you. You're sat in silence all day, have your lunch on your own in silence, no breaks, no moving around, nothing to do all day except homework. Can't even nap or hum to yourself or doodle or anything without getting in trouble if caught.
It'd drive me insane, quite honestly, and I'm an extremely unsociable person. The utter cruelty and irony of punishing ADHD kids that way when they act up from being understimulated is beyond comprehension.
I literally used to ask to be put in isolation 😂 I hated people especially the ones in my school (badly bullied) but liked the work. So isolation was not punishment it was the best day ever lol
Hi Jesse, you probably won’t read this but your channel is what led me to recognising autistic traits in myself and is what led to me getting a diagnosis. I’d just like to thank you so much for being so open about it, it truly was a great help and gave me the confidence I needed to talk about it with my family. So thank you! Actually turns out, when my grandma used to live in Oklahoma as a kid she absolutely demolished Hanna Montanas dad in soccer. Apparently he sucked at it and all old people know eachother. He actually called her out in college when she got sick.
same thing happened to me! but i’m still not officially diagnosed because i don’t have the money for it and support in the country i currently live. i hope one day i’ll manage to do it tho

God ‘Jack of all Friends, Close to None’ was so true of my high school experience. Like most people genuinely seemed to like me, but I was never invited to parties or to hang out with anyone in the summer.

Honestly, I'm happy for anyone who is able to and gets along well enough with their parents to keep living at home as long as they need to. My relationship to my parents isn't awful, but I could never go live in that house again, it's just way too much for my mental health! Glad for those who finds it comfy at home, really 🥰
I stayed in my parents house till I was 22 or 23 and it was the best thing I ever did for my relationship with my parents. It became so much healthier for me and them! So I feel you.
I really feel this. My relationship with my parents is actually pretty good now that we dont live under the same roof, but as a late-diagnosed autistic woman I really sometimes wish I could just go back home.
I both am able too and don't have a choice. I'm nearing 30, am disabled (late-diagnosed autism + other mental health things) and have never been able to leave home, but thankfully I have a good relationship with my parents and it's a big apartment. Still, it's hard sometimes because I feel like a failure, and my living situation (amongst other things) undoubtedly makes me very unattractive to potential partners. But that's just the way it is. 🤷♀️

Same. I moved out with my bf as soon as we could and it’s such a struggle honestly but I’d much rather have financial stress than simply live with my parents, and that shows a lot. It’s sad to think about that I feel like I don’t have real “parents” I can rely on. But I’m happy to provide my little sister a safe place that I didn’t have at her age
I'm glad you can stay late at school with clubs and all that jazz. My high school was my escape from my absolutely horrible home life then 😂 ya girl was too active in the after-school activities

cutting school to go hide at my bffs house whose mother was the truancy officer! lol shed never report us but was up the ass of anyone else. shed write us excuse notes. my high school and home were nightmares for me. my only escape was my friends. im pretty sure i spent more time at friends houses from 10-17 than i did at home. i hated that entire period of my life. HATED it. wanted to disappear, not exist, but was too scared to end it all. thank GOD. im on the fence about buying this ex pack because it was literally the worst time in my life but i want to relive it and be on the cool kid side. the popular, not wanting to crawl into a wall when anyone walked by me, kid. its rediculous, im in tears as i write this ( im 50 years old now, so, if it still brings up this kind of emotion, you know it sucked for everyone). high school really fucks people up, not gonna lie
we don't even have after school activities at school in my country, you either go home or sit around alone in school

I had childhood trauma; but found peace at being at school away from all the drama at home. Different circumstances for different folks.
I also think people say they "miss high-school" because it's mostly a time of self discovery with minimal consequences.

@@brandoniswhoiam No one has to experience trauma, but it’s more likely for people with bad childhoods to have worse memories of their school days. Cause if your childhood wasn’t great then your memories of school probably weren’t great either
high school was the best BECAUSE at home sucked so much. school was my favorite place to be and my memories there are still some of the best i have specifically because of my trauma
I love it when you talk about your undiagnosed autism time. I have a teenager in the process of evaluations for neurodivergent things. As a teenager all of a sudden there’s been a realization that they do behave differently than most but whatever happens to be the issue they were very good at masking when they were in one classroom and kids were more predictable. Middle school has shown something a bit different with social cues, sensory stimulation and hyper focused interests.
Anyway, thank you for being so open and representing Autism in women and being diagnosed later. ♥️

@@dandygirl6 thank you. I’m trying hard, so far my biggest hurdles are trying to make extended family aware that they just can’t expect the same type of behavior from this kiddo as the other cousins. The conversations are a million percent different and the expectations really need to be let go of.

if there's anything i've learned from british builders it's that the uk loves their extremely closed floor plans. that initial hallway in first person hit me like Life Has Many Doors, Ed-Boy.

In America, at least when I was in school, isolation was called In School Suspension. It was awful. We were in the school dean’s office but we couldn’t talk too.
Mine was similar, we called it In House Suspension. It'd be a teacher chaperoning us in an empty classroom for the entire school day, kind of like a study hall except no talking, no phones, and no joy of any kind. Absolutely miserable. The only upside was actually getting some of my classwork done 😭
I feel that, it was awful!!!! I went to high school in the US and we had detention as well as ISS/OSS. We had a couple designated tiny, dark rooms with a desk and a chair in the corner so you had to sit in there alone until school was out. I don't think that helped ANYBODY lol, just made everything worse for most
My school had a large library so ISS was inside right next to the librarians office so you could do homework and stuff.
In the UK here and once I was out in isolation for three days, and I loved it! The students in my school were so naughty and the teachers had completely given up on the class, so every lesson I’d just sit there stressing out and hyper stimulated as all the students shouted and messed about around me, with the teacher just giving us all the silent treatment.
In isolation I was just put in a room with a computer, my pack of work and one teacher keeping an eye on me and helping me when I needed it. Learned more in those three days than I would have in two weeks of normal lessons.
Was in isolation for hitting a bully back after they shoved me, after that I kind of wanted to get in more fights just so I wouldn’t have to deal with the stress of being in those classes. Never did, my parents moved me out of that school shortly after.
omg so painful, most schools have some kind of version of this. Here in Aus in a staunchly catholic school it's called the RTC (responsible thinking classroom) where most of my educating was done.

I didn't personally go through these things but I watched my brother go through an unfair education system and he was later diagnosed with ADHD as an adult. I'm so sorry you, my brother, and other people who had to go through an education system where you couldn't get help. It's cruel and I wish society would do better. You're beautiful Jesse! Absolutely agree with you here, it's brutal, especially to those undiagnosed (because people wrongly assume you're being argumentative or disagreeable just to be difficult). I would like to add to your society would do better comment - I think society is absolutely key here. I am going through diagnosis for autism at 33, and I had a hard time in school, but I had an AMAZING friend group and their parents (and mine) were all incredible. I realize how lucky I was to have a literal "society" around me so supportive when I struggled - especially with social issues and such. Even if we cannot get parents and doctors on board with catching/diagnosing these issues, I hope other kids/teens and their parents and also teachers can realize they can make a huge difference in other kids lives.
I love hearing you talking about your autism journey and teenage experience because I've never thought that I could've related so much to a random internet girl from England, when I can't even relate to many people around me in Spain. I had a similar experience. British, and was also undiagnosed. I actually had a more traumatic time in primary school (though high school was also awful, but-) because I had literal TEACHERS bully me. The worst bully is now a head teacher. I wish I had the language and understanding to have spoken up and expressed what he had been doing, but I didn't. He got away with mental abuse in front of a whole class, as well as physical abuse where I felt FORCED to cheat on a maths test because he had bullied me so much about how badly I was doing, I was desperate for it to stop; he grabbed me by my wrist when he noticed I was copying someone's work, and yanked me clean out of my chair and off the floor. I hope the fucker suffers in some way in his life.

Oof, the "I wish I had the language and understanding to have spoken up" hits hard. Being undiagnosed for both ADD and autism, school was difficult for me, and oftentimes I didn't have the language and understanding to (1) properly express how people were mistreating me or (2) make people understand why I was more sensitive to things. And it is sad that the adults and children of that time seemed to have no inclination to show any kindness or try to figure out how they could help
i’m 32, not diagnosed with anything but strongly believe i either have autism and/or adhd, and i had about 2-3 teachers who would bully me just for being different. my second grade teacher was the worst though… i remember being so confused about why she didn’t like me :/ looking back i must’ve frustrated her in some way, but i’ll always resent the fact that instead of trying to get me help or something her first instinct was to be mean to a child.
@Pingo Holy shit, yeah. Thinking about it, I had times like that as well. Most notably because of my hair. My fringe would grow over my eyes, and I had this snobby music teacher in high school that would say the same. And then there were cooking classes. By the time my sister was in high school, we got even poorer, so much so we couldn't afford the ingredients to cook in the class. The teacher would mock my sister and ask how we couldn't afford food.

cold lunches as in, the foods were hot foods that had gone cold, or they were just cold food options? I'm australian so having food provided to you is weird to me in the first place
@@countrye3013 cold food options like turkey or ham sandwiches which were really gross I went to a football highschool so our school lunches were pretty good to feed the school teams but our isolation foods were straight prison foods .. terrible

No idea what it was to achieve it did make me build a resentment to the school and the principle who kept sending me to in school suspension instead of talking to me and seeing what was going on. I didn't live in the best area and a lot of kids around me were dying from gun violence or just misfortune events. My parents were divorcing and it was a new area for me and we weren't the richest so I didn't have the best things. So it made me act out.. which wasn't a good excuse but it's the truth the principle didn't seem to care "just send them to in school so we don't have to deal with it "
@@Wurmze It was probably to ensure that they were actually being punished as opposed to out of school suspension where you were at home doing whatever you pleased. If I needed a mental break from school, I actively went out of my way to get suspended so I could stay home and watch tv and play video games because at that point I would rather risk being seen as a troublemaker for a mental break than sit in class being treated like garbage by my classmates and even by some of my teachers, plus I was decent enough at school that I could make up for it once I went back, of course I had to carefully walk the line to be sure I didn't get expelled.
This is sooo hilarious to watch as a late diagnosed autistic person. Everything's way too relatable, the only thing that's easy for me to eat is chips/crisps (for the texture) so that was funny as well :') I told my boyfriend and he rolled his eyes 😂
My school didn't have dedicated isolation rooms, just used empty class rooms, or a seat in the corridor outside someone's office, usually tucked under a stairwell. Once, i had to shadow a senior teacher and sit in the back of his class and watch him teach the same class 4 times 🙈

I was diagnosed with autism at 19 and I feel the exact same way as you. Hate the education system with a passion for not picking up on it but I hold absolutely no ill will to my family. I grew up in such a loving family and I think one of the reasons it maybe wasn’t picked up by them was because they were so accepting I felt a lot more comfortable being myself and less likely to have meltdowns (had plenty at school tho lmao)

OMG this was a replay of my childhood, I got expelled from four schools and in school i lived in isolation. I have Autism and ADHD
My hs years were a general experience of undiagnosed adhd, among other things, in fact my home life was worse for me so school, and weekends at the library were a refuge. I was a 'gifted student' who had few problems in class - in structured environments, but hw and projects, especially in classes that weren't my favorite, painted me as two different students. Overall honor student, did after-school tutoring in math, which most times was just somewhere to hangout and prep mentally for going home, graduated expected to go into a premed program and just... didn't.
I relate so much to the homework thing. I have ADHD and the second I shoved that homework in my bag there was no seeing it until the end of the grading period when my mom would go through my bag and find it all. I even couldn’t use electronics on weekdays and still wouldn’t do it because I either forgot or procrastinated. I’m lucky teachers didn’t give much homework in my high school because I would have failed because of that alone

Just wanted to say thank you for being so honest with your experience! I was also labelled a handful in school and ended up being diagnosed with autism later in life and can relate to your journey so much! Just about to graduate with a 2:1 after being kicked out before my A-levels. Thank you for making me feel more normal!
I second this! I left mainstream school 3 months into in year 7, diagnosed autistic at 13/14, was only given the chance to do 4 GSCEs and now I'm in my second year in uni at 21! It's so great to see other's success stories !! Can't thank you enough Jesse

JESSE! Your description of hiw your family treated you while being undiagnosed like that's exactly me. I know my mom and dad loved me (my siblings not so much) but they just didn't understand why I was so different but they just ya know TRIED THEIR BEST.
We had "in school suspension" which is like your Isolation. I'm in Oregon, USA. And I love the way you talk about Autism. My son is Autistic and school was awful for him. But he finally graduated with a "modified" diploma after 5 years of high school.
It's so confusing when people say high school was the best time of their life and the worst time of their life. For me it was just the worst time of my life. High school was awful. There was nothing good about it. Things have been better since I graduated. The main reason I'd never have kids is high school. I couldn't put another human being through that.
It’s the opposite for me (well I understand how people could say it was the worst time of their life from their stories but) I had mental health issues and struggles during high school but none of them stemmed from high school they came from home life and junior school. Getting to go to school every day, be with my friends, pmsl at the charismatic teachers (or with my friends at the rubbish ones though they were the minority), learn so much, have so many awesome experiences, have no real responsibilities (even if they feel real at that age). It’s just a setting that you’ll never get in the rest of your life because as an adult you’re restricted by your friends being all over the place, real responsibilities, jobs, time crunches it’s just so much harder and more isolated. I remember every few months in high school I’d remind myself, you need to appreciate this time right now, and I don’t think I did enough as I let myself get overwhelmed by the anxiety and such. But yeah I hope my potential kids have a good high school experience like mine and not one like yours.
It was a hard time in life just by virtue of puberty and being a teenager…normal stuff…but I still have overall positive memories of high school. I enjoyed high school.
My dad was like the King of High School. Popular, football player, homecoming king, always partying, etc. My mom, on the other hand, didn’t have a good high school experience. She ended up doing independent study to get out of going every day. She had a really tough four years, mentally.
So yeah they’re my parents, but their experiences compared to my (and my brother’s), were vastly different from my own. Because my brother even had a different experience than I did.
You can’t really assume everyone’s going to go through what you did. You don’t have to have kids if you don’t want them of course, but thinking they’d automatically have the same experience as you did, is flawed logic.
My point is to say kids are who they are, and who their parents are, is not a guarantee of who they are going to be.
I agree. My high school experience was a lovely blend of social rejection, developing health issues, and increasingly ab*sive parent relationship. It felt like a constant fight. My school even let me down because once I started doing my general classes in college I realized I wasn’t taught anything in high school, even basic stuff like how a cell works we never went over. I don’t have a single good time I remember about being in high school. I was always struggling with everything.
Now I’m 21 going to uni and am content as a loner, living with my boyfriend and have a handle on my health issues. So much better

Yeah they do. Its pretty much to keep them from disrupting the other kids. here youre a problem child we simply dont want to see you. Youd think they would have come up with a better system by now or go hey maybe this kid is acting out for a reason. What sucks more is the only classes they have for kids who cant mask or blend at all(special ed) and they don’t even try and teach those kids. Just hear learn how to be a janitor

they do it was terrible. i swore once in middle school at no one in particular and my english teacher heard me and i got sent to isolation for a day. it was hell and my guardian was so pissed off.
Not high school, but in middle school I also got in so much trouble and found I preferred my school’s version of isolation. It was great- I knew what was expected of me and I got to read for most of the day. Idk why everyone was surprised when I was diagnosed autistic a few years later

i still remember having exams and all that in highschool and around the time, the sims 3 came out and i remember just walking out of my first exam that i did no study for and just going to the plaza to get my pre-ordered Sims 3 base game and just all exam prep or even anxiety was completely suffocated by Sims :') also... lmao at you treating school like a game, 'cuz same babes. also my fave crisps are kettle chilli flavour. kettle cooked chips texture omg.. the tiny layers.
I really love these videos where we get a peek at younger Plumbella. I suspect I have autism but my school experience wasn't quite like yours. I'd be curious to learn how you adapted your living/learning style in college, because I'd love to get a master's too but I'm not confident it'd go well.

This was so fun and interesting! I've come to the realisation that I'm fine watching or playing other people's traumatic teenage years in The Sims, but as soon as something reminds me too much of my school or my house I refuse to engage, instant mood killer.
I've just finished "high school" (secondary school) and I blocked most of it out, it's unbelievable that it was 5 whole years. I very much kept to myself and was a goody-toe-shoes. I managed to get away with not doing much of my coursework in Year 10 and 11 because my mum and teachers just assume I did most of it because I was so quiet and well behaved. I also fucked myself because I just sat in maths and doodled for 2 years (all the way up until mocks) which I really shouldn't have done but I love inconveniencing myself even if it costs me my grades xx
In conclusion speak up in school and actually revise because I didn't towards the end and I'm gonna get shit grades and I don't know if I'll pass oops. Also to answer the question my favourite crisps are cheese and onion crinkles (I think made by cheedars) they are so delicious.
Final tangent as someone questioning if i have adhd/autism sometimes it's great ✌️

I did the same in high-school and only passed because I actually tried in my senior year. I spent most of my time at school daydreaming and trying to look like I was paying attention and snuck by because I'm decent at figuring things out, but I barely remember anything now at age 28 besides basic knowledge and a few random interesting facts.
I did significantly better in college though because you pick the field you're interested in instead of being forced to memorize the same things as everyone else. If you want to go to college and are in the US, I would suggest going to community college first to figure out what you enjoy studying. I switched my major 3 or 4 times before getting my bachelor's degrees and saved a lot by going to a good community college beforehand.
Also, I was diagnosed with ADD (whch is now called ADHD-PI [PI stands for primarily inattentive]) when I was 22 or 23 and it made me realize why I struggled so much with things that shouldn't be that hard to do. I really wish that I was diagnosed earlier though because I probably would have stuck with mechanical engineering as my primary major (instead of switching back to psychology) and would have a higher paying job now :/
It takes a while and you'll keep changing as a person over time, but eventually you will find a career field that intrigues you enough to stick with and hopefully brings you some fulfillment! If academics really aren't your thing, there are many jobs that focus more on experience so there are still options available.
Education is important, but you're still a valid and valuable person even if you don't do well in school!
There's way more to life than just memorizing stuff because someone told you to.
@@itssgracie I was one of the quiet kids in school and have spent years trying to learn how to socialize and interact with people because being shy doesn't help you at all when you're an adult. Being quiet/shy is often a mild defense mechanism to protect you from social rejection (or potential harm in abusive environments), but can also significantly stunt your development of beneficial social skills.
I missed out on soooo many opportunities and experiences when I was younger because I was afraid to speak up and didn't realize the benefits of just talking with other people.
My dad was also extremely quiet and his life was very stagnant until he recently started talking to people more often and is now finally doing more of the things he said he wanted to do for the past 20-30 years. I've learned from his experience that you have to get out and talk to people to accomplish many things in life (except for becoming an off-the-grid hermit), so the sooner you develop decent social skills, the better.
I'm still very introverted and lots of social interaction is still exhausting, but becoming comfortable with talking to strangers/people I barely know definitely helped me do a lot of things that I didn't think was possible (like travel internationally, meeting certain people, make money w/ art, etc.).
If you let people know about your skills and interests, a surprising amount of people are willing to help you out or just talk with you and become a connection or friend if they have similar interests.
I'm saying all of this in case any other former quiet kids see this comment thread and hopefully don't end up make the same mistake that I did of making "shyness" part of their identity and later discovering how much they missed out on 😕
I think it would be more realistic for the sims to have other reactions for failing besides embarrassed. Plenty of kids don't care about grades and it's kinda boring to have every sim react the same the bad grades/bad performance/bad whatever.
Hearing you talk about loving living at home brings so much comfort to me. I'm in no hurry to leave but no one seems to be able to grasp that when I explain it.
My high school years weren't bad, just uneventful. I was expecting to have an experience like in the movies or TV shows. I was clearly disappointed, but it wasn't too bad after all. I can relate to many of your same experiences especially my mom giving me money for lunch and me saving it up to buy CDs or go to the movies. 😁😁
Lol same, my experience was just uneventful and disappointing. But I had a decent time with my little friend group so I'm not complaining too much! Although I am now 24 and mentally still feel 14 because it's like I never really experienced being a teenager so it feels like I've been frozen in time for a decade

We didnt have isolation per say but we did have in school suspension or ISS. They put you in a specific classroom with a teacher watching and you werent allowed to talk to anyone and just do homework and be quiet
reading some more about isolation rooms, and they're kinda like where I took my college exams because of my ADHD and they were so helpful because everything was quiet.
on the other hand, classes where I could be loud and move around and talk a lot to the teacher were the classes i did best in.

I think I'm in a healthy middle regarding my own high school experience, where I didn't particularly love it, but I don't have much trauma from it either. But ONE TIME I got to sing my favorite song with my friends playing in our makeshift band for the day in front of like 80 teens and tweens or something, and that is a memory I will treasure forever. I freaking rocked out hard that day.
I HOPE.. they let us take "packed" lunches to school for lunch 😭
you can do that anyways you just need to cook something and make it a packed lunch then it will go in your inventory so you can take it anywhere
I'm pretty sure you can already pack meals into bags and put it in your inventory, atleast it's in my game

I appreciate so much about this, but what I appreciate most is how you displayed your sister/niece. THANK YOU for showing a multigenerational family with a young mom and not painting it in a negative light. My mom was a young mom and my grandparents were always in our home and I see that represented so negatively in media. It's very refreshing to not see that!

I had a very similar high school experience, even though I live in America. Also we did have isolation in my school as well, though ours was called AIM (i don't recall what it stood for tho) it was basically the same thing, except you could do homework there. I had to go for like a week straight for the whole day because I didn't get my parents to sign a permission slip or something so i couldn't participate with the rest of the class. I have no idea why i didn't just get my mom to straighten things out for me lol. It was a really cruel punishment when i hadn't even done anything wrong. One time, i remember they didn't tell me when lunch was. So i just didn't get lunch that day.
And weirdly enough, I remember the vice principal (?) Or someone like that, he was a HUGE middle aged bald man and in the middle of me sitting in this AIM isolation room, i guess he felt bad for me so to be relatable or something he just started talking about the hannah Montana season finale to me lol. It was extremely surreal.

We had isolation desks in elementary school, they had walls build onto the desk so that you couldn't enter act with your class mate, but you were still in the class.
I had undiagnosed ADHD and autism, and when I got put in an isolation desk I cried the whole day. No one explained to me that I was there to help me focus on my work, I felt like it was a punishment because the only other kid in my class who had an isolation desk was a bad kid who got in trouble all the time. And I was a good kid, I just got distracted easily.
Pmsl. Printing out a piece of paper to the vice principle saying "Hi, what you upto?" is the funniest thing ever. How dare they put you in isolation for that 😂
I hated hated hated secondary school, I was bullied and most probably already had undiagnosed borderline personality disorder, it was horrific there's nothing I miss.

When I was in high school my teacher wanted me tested for ASD as well, turns out it’s just ~crippling anxiety and childhood trauma~. Amazing how many symptoms cross over, IE repetitive behaviours, self-soothing, lack of stable relationships, and reactivity to loud noises/large crowds
The isolation rooms completely shocked me for a moment but then I looked back to my highschool days and remembered how teachers and staff looked for any excuse to stick kids in detention instead of you know maybe helping them out? Maybe offering an on school therapist or real guidance counselor (our was more there to talk about college prep but can't remember them doing anything else). We had literal gates out back by the cafeteria, that felt like cell bars, which they would lock once school started so no one could leave the property! And security in front. I used to climb over this one section so I could take a break from it all in the woods nearby. (More like swamp land with trees lol it was Florida) and the whole time I was in school I kept being misdiagnosed with an anxiety disorder when I am in fact actually bipolar. I also had a different way of learning and adhd and was made to feel like I was really stupid, but that's not the case. A lot of us learn differently and are stronger in some subjects than others, I was awful at mathematics but great in english writing and art..No kids should be felt like outcasts for being different. So ya to me highschool represents a time when we're told we're supposed to be "finding ourselves" but honestly we're just kids and we don't know what we're doing and sometimes we're made to feel small or secluded or often, as I was, bullied. Highschool definitely wasn't a time where I learned much about myself, I learned more about the people around me. Until it was all over lol at the end I was like "Oooooh!💡" Finally had some insight into myself. Like Jesse said college is when I got better at teaching myself how to study and take in information in class before I was mostly studying other people. And it wasn't until I took a year off after my first year of college that I actually began to truly get to know myself. And p.s. In college I learned I loved photography and went back to those same woods I used to escape to and took black and white film shots. Back to the scene of the crime eh 😂

I went to school in Scotland, didn't attend a private school but getting a blazer with piping was like a super big deal it was a senior student thing so like 5th & 6th Year (Last 2 years of high school) were the only ones who had it there was like a big ceremony of the head teachers handing you your ribbon and shaking your hand...UK schools are wild!

In arizona we had a thing called Sweep. If u were late or "bad" they'd send you there and you'd sit on the stage in the cafeteria staring at a wall. Not allowed to do school work either. It was pointless.
the last high school I went to did iso as a form of suspension for some students. It was odd in retrospect, ive never heard of another aussie school doing it.
