Remember when you could have your teens skip school, and they had a WHOLE TOWN to use up their time, and there was a chance they could be found by the police.
Remember when you could have your sim physically walk to their work if you wanted. Or you could look at the world view and see if there was a party going on and you could just roll up and crash it.

Toddlers are one of the better things they've added into the game and they're still only so-so. (Also, random genetics have taught me toddlers have their own genetics so tweaking their toddler form does nothing to their teen and up self.) I actually love the toddlers, they're at least better than the pets, one of the best things we've ever gotten for family simmers, but it's still disappointing most of the time.

However, oddly enough...I was playing the living hell out of the TS4 CAS demo 😂😂. I finally convinced them to get it for the Black Friday sale under the condition that I couldn't play it until Christras (I really tried... but that agreement later went right out the window btw). The dumb thing about it is I knew going into it that there wasn't going to be toddlers. I was absolutely blown away when I saw the animation of a baby aging up. 😭 Looking back... I was a total 🤡 for being surprised. Like they said no toddler wtf did I think would happen? 😂 To this day that animation is so wild to me.

My humble thoughts on the Sims 4: Moods being the driving factor in the way sims act in the sims 4 is why the gameplay feels so shallow. People’s actions aren’t driven primarily by fleeting emotions… they are driven by their aspirations and their relationships with others. Making whether someone is feeling “playful” or “sad” the driver for their decisions is not going to result in dynamic characters. It’s going to result in characters who more or less all feel the same and go through the same motions as everyone else until they die.

I don't understand this whole "the sims 4 with no open world caters to lower-end computers" because I played the sims 3 on a normal laptop and despite taking forever to load at startup, I then never had to load anything ever again. And the game crashed but all EA games are badly optimized, the sims 3 just had more to it so it makes sense it crashed a lot. Meanwhile the sims 4 on that same exact computer took FOREVER to load every single lot. It took between 5 to 15 minutes to load every lot I ever visited, to the point that I stopped leaving my lot, so that made the game very fun.
No seriously, if you've ever had a low end computer you know the LAST thing you want in a game is MORE LOADING SCREENS.

I feel this - I can play the Sims 3 on my laptop and I deal with some lag but at least the game is all there and once it's ready to go it's ALL ready to go.
But with a few mods and cc, the Sims 4 takes a long time to load up, and then add the sit-through time for loading screens, it's probably on par with the initial wait for Sims 3? Or close? (I really should time it one time lmao)
Putting it this way: both games take long enough to load into a house that I can go and make a coffee, and when I get back there's a possibility that I'm still waiting 😂

I've been playing TS2 recently and it's highlighted how much TS4 tries to TELL you things instead of SHOWING you. TS4 will tell you that your sim is angry with a big red splash in the corner and then maybe several sim-hours later your sim might stomp away into another room. Compare that to TS2, where there was no UI indicator of a sim's mood (excepting the positive/negative mood or maybe more accurately 'wellbeing' scale) but you leave your sim alone for a second and they stomp on the ground, clench their fists and think about the burglar with fire in their thought bubble - you KNEW that sim was angry!! And it was lasting, that sim might think fiery thoughts about that burglar for days. TS4 sims are goldfish in comparison.

The open world was never the problem with Sims 3. It was the way they programmed the game. It was horribly coded and they programmed it for (outdated) 32-bits systems when most people already had 64-bits. There are plenty of games that use open worlds that run fine, even on older or slower PCs. If EA would’ve taken the time to correctly program an open world for Sims 4 it would’ve been able to run without much issues but surprise surprise, they chose the easy way out.

An open world doesn’t have to mean it crashes all the time. The Sims 3 has insane memory leaks and never deals with it’s trash so even on the best gaming computer it will overload it, it’ll just take longer. Open world and story progression make these problems really obvious really fast but they aren’t the actual cause of the problems. There is no reason why we can’t have open world run completely fine in a future Sims game as long as the devs actually pay attention to what’s going on in the back end rather than just hoping for the best and blaming it on our computers when shit inevitably goes wrong.

@@mars9986 that's really not a good take, for some players it may be that their computer is underpowered, but a lot of core issues come from EA's practices as a company.
For one thing, EA games are known to be built out of spaghetti code, which is so many levels of mess that if you don't know what it is I suggest you just look it up
Also, EA likes to build their own engines from scratch instead of using pre-established ones, and they're really really bad at building game engines from scratch, they just, aren't very well optimized to say the least (usually anyway, there might be exceptions)
It's not that EA only uses outdated stuff or that players have underpowered PCs/consoles, it's that EA builds their games broken to begin with because it's cheaper and faster and it satisfies investors

@@elizabethb4168 Exactly. EA also forces dev teams to use engines built for ENTIRELY different games and then don't funnel any of the support resources over to help with the issues. It's a complete mess and I can only imagine how frustrating it must be to work there.

To be honest, those open world games are different from Sims 3. It requires lots of optimization and smart implementation of technology to do Sims 3 like open world well. However, I strongly believe it's possible, especially with EAs resources.
But I also think there is a bit of a problem with casual gamers: one does not simply expect a 3D video game to run well on integrated graphics and low end CPUs. Casuals should either stick to consoles or think about getting slightly better systems.

It'd make everyone happy since we'd have the fancy backgrounds to make the worlds feel more full but also have less loading screens to go see our neighbors, and it'd feel more lively since we'd see our neighbors going in and out of their homes to do things like take out the trash, check mail, and so on.

As someone who started with the sims 2, i'm use to a closed world. I have no problem with it. My problem is with the lack of content. Even with stuff packs, updates.. The game just feels lifeless.
In the sims 2, and i am using the sims 2 as comparing the sims 4 to the sims 3 really isn't a fair comparison. TS3 had MANY features that a large sum of the playerbase loved and thus, comparing them? It isn't fair. So, i'm going with 2.
The sims 2 had so much content in terms of playability. In my ts2 game i'm on generation 3 whereas in ts4 i play for maybe 50 minutes, get bored, and put down the game. Ts2? You could have fun dates, funny cut scenes (which would of been great if we could skip them, but, still), and just a bunch of random turns of events. Sims had life and depth to them. If your sim cheated on 6 women and was caught, they would likely line up to slap him. Sims 4 on the other hand, your partner pretty much reacts and then forgets about it unless you have mods. Sims 2, you have the ability to go to a pet store and buy a pet. The last game to incorporate that? Was TS2. Children who were taken by Child services could be adopted by other families not just POOF and they were gone like in ts4. In TS2 your sims could ride a bike, have a car, have different seating styles and SO much more. And all of these tiny details? Not even a trace of them in TS4. Am i asking for a game filled with billions of details? No, but having some would add just a little bit of life to a seemingly dead game.
Moving on from that, i loved the memory system. I loved that my sims remembered their first kiss, i loved that my sims were haunted by fires, deaths, and so on. That was real. That was something i actually loved about Ts2. I hate that in ts4 the only way to save memories is to do it all yourself. I hate to say it but i didn't even know it was a feature until a few months ago when i saw a friend use it. There's also burglars. For many it was frightening. That was ultimately why it was axed, it was scary. Which.. fine. I can understand that. But, i'd rather have burglars stealing my toilets and sinks than a literal disease from a rodent that kills your sims. I'd rather have burglars over the ridiculous illnesses they added for pets or the fact we can't even see what our pets are requiring without a mod. Before you ask, for those who never played Ts2, yes! You could control your pets in TS2, all you needed was the cheat code for it.
I miss that our pets had jobs, i miss that our pets actually seemed like a member of the family not just something you throw food at and pet once a day. My sims 4 pets have run away more often than any animal i have owned in ts2 and ts3 combined, why combined? Because ts3 is where animals were playable right off the bat and that feature is something many players liked as well. I feed them, and try to care for them as best as i can but when it comes to a household with multiple kids? It's painful. It's actually near impossible. Another thing, pets have practically no use other than to sit there and look cute.. kind of like babies really. There is nothing for them. No careers, no fun activities that involve more of the family, nothing. I'd love just something - like community pet contests, or a dog festival, or a cat carnival. Anything. Animals deserve so much more in the sims 4 and now? We have cows, chickens and such but they're essentially objects.
Let's also consider create a sim/create a pet. In ts4 the options are very limited. Even with all the expansions! You're probably going 'What? No they aren't' Well, allow me to go back on my word and point out the sims 3. The content in each pack for the sims 2 and 3? practically double than what we get with each pack in the sims 4. As much as i do like the sims 4, i will never *ever* call it my favorite for the mere fact that it's so lacking in so many departments.. Gameplay, CAS, free content, features. There is just so much missing that it still, to this day, feels incomplete to me.
Moving from create a sim, Create a pet is also... both.. better and worse. I dislike the lack of customization we have for animals and i know what you are thinking - "There is more you can do for animals in ts4 due to the advanced painting system" Well, no, actually that system is worse. In Ts3 and ts2 you made actual coats with layers. These layers meant, theoretically, you could make a unique dog everytime you entered the CAP. In ts4 the biggest features i can say im glad to have? The mix genetics and clothing features. And even then, the genetics in Sims 4? I don't know who did them but they would of failed biology. People, please, use a Punnett square!
The last i will talk about is genetics, yes. In ts2 and 3 genetics were a actual thing. In ts2 your babies had a chance to inherit either the mom or the dad's hair/eyes/facial structures and could receive a mixture of them. They even had dominant and recessive genes present in the game. and your children could receive a skin tone on a scale from the mom's to the dad's meaning, your children would actually look related to both parents.
Ts3, this feature no longer had recessive/dominant.. I.e, kids could inherit any hair color equally even if your sims hair was say bright pink and they could end up with very different features to their parents as their ancestry may shine through.
In ts4 on the other hand, your sims will always look like one or the other. They may get a skintone somewhere in the middle but the game tends to lean towards the extreme. I.e, if you have a fair skinned male sim and a darker skinned female, the likely hood is they would be either that same dark skin their mother has or the same fair skin as their father. Thus families don't look, well, related. Hair and eyes work in the same fashion and it's fairly unlikely for ancestor's features to shine through, if there even is a chance.
Basically, TS4 is a severely simplified version of the TS2 with some different features (though lacking a majority of basic features that ts2 had) and better graphics. My ONLY hope is that Ts5 will be a revamped Ts3 with a better open-world mechanic that wont be as laggy. Is it likely? No. It's more likely that it will be just another simplified imitation of a former game. Can i hope? Yep, so i shall hope for the best.

Totally agree. Sims 4 feels so empty. I don't mind loading to places in a closed world, but I hate how lifeless the game is. The emotion system sucks, there are so few items, the clothing and hairstyles are minimal unless you like ugly sims, and they don't even have cars yet. Also, babies as objects is always bad.
In addition, the things you said about NPCS and reactions, yes. I miss burglars, and the other day I was intentionally clogging someone's drain for a task, and the guy just says hey could you not do that, and walks away. If that were sims 2, I'd get slapped, or kicked out, or in a fight; just SOMETHING.

I keep trying to get into Sims 4, and my impulsiveness has me buying anything on sale and rushing to play, but I’ve never gotten past maybe 2 generations at most. I used to get really into stories and legacy challenges but I haven’t done the same with 4. Even after everything, it feels… hollow.
Like a rabbit hole. The facade looks great, but when you delve deeper it’s kind of just…. empty. Maybe that’s because I don’t have the same child-like wonder and imagination playing that I used to, but seriously, it used to be so much fun to imagine up stories for stuff that happened during story progression. Like why random Sims suddenly had kids in 3 after you were focused on someone else for too long.

Also agree that the gameplay in 4 just feels hollow and more lacking in general. Stuff is buggy and annoying. Like my Sims working in their dream job and getting a fear of a dead end job. Then her teen brother working part time in a cafe while in school and getting the same fear! They didn't finesse the details the way they did in Sims 2. Sims 2 had so much charm and the Sims really felt more alive, and had more personality. There's so many ways in Sims 4 where it's just glaringly low effort. Like the design of the calientes in this game. The fact that the families who come with the game have certain descriptions, but their relationships panels don't even match. I loved in Sims 2 how the neighborhoods felt so dynamic. When you opened the preloaded Sims they all had their own family tree with dead ancestors, their own relationships with other Sims in town and their own memories in their memory panel. So much fun!! My ideal Sims game would be the Sims 2 core gameplay, combined with the Sims 4 graphics, build more and worlds.

I keep coming back to the Sims 2, and after playing it for over a decade, still find little fun details that are so delightful! Everything about that game was well thought out, there was nothing sloppy about it. For example: the little facial expressions sims make when they are on the phone. The way that the lily pads on the pond change layout when you place more than one, so it looks natural. The cute little interactions you can do with kids, like cuddling on the couch and swinging them around. The adorable toddlers' laugh. Being able to meet and adopt Bigfoot!
There is endless gameplay, building relationships is a delight, you never need to worry that your story is going to suck because of some unforeseen issue with gameplay. Like in the Sims 4, when they keep going to the farthest sink to wash dishes and it takes them an hour in-game. Or when you enter a competition with a 'Perfect' level item, only to lose to another contestant with a 'normal' level item. I just hate these sloppy scenarios, as they totally break immersion and make achieving anything in the game feel pointless. At the end of the day, immersion and relatability are key to having a good gaming experience.

Tbh multi-tasking was a downside for me rather than an improvement lol Because they don't truly multi-task, and the sims take forever to do anything. If any other sim comes in the room they *will* start a conversation and I have to micromanage or separate them, because otherwise my sim will just stand there in front of the task she's supposed to be doing and talk. And that kind of goes hand in hand with having conversations with multiple sims which I THOUGHT would be a good idea, but it turns out I can't even go on a date without the entire bar butting in on our conversation. When I play Sims 3 its often a relief when they just do the thing they're supposed to do, and talk with one another 1-on-1. Multi-tasking just made everything so much more tedious than it had to be. I never had to micromanage Sims in previous games as much as I have had to with this one.
I feel like open world could have worked in Sims 4. The worlds are so small that lag and loading wouldn't have been anywhere comparable to Sims 3. And besides that, most of the problems with Sims 3 were very poor optimization. Isla Paradisio, for example, was notorious for its lag, but that was entirely avoidable if EA had done the routing properly. Users uploaded a fixed version. This is the same reason current lag exists in Sims 4, they suck at optimizing their spaghetti-coded games. Doesn't even matter if you have a good computer or a bad computer, how much you invest in it, eventually Sims is going to lag and stop working simply because they refuse to optimize, and have a thousand different DLC's that don't work well together. Like, even though Sims 4 caters to casual gamers with lower end PCs, I can tell we are getting close to the point where EA says "Well if you're experiencing problems just play with certain packs uninstalled".

Ahh I rarely care for multitasking nowadays because it slows everything down and makes it tedious to get anything done. It's not like Sims didn't eat/watch tv/play games and talk together in ts2 and 3. They did. And it was way less annoying.
I like some aspects and improvements of sims 4, but I feel that it would've been so much better as an open world. Some people treat open world with disdain because it "causes lag", but I heard that in reality it wasn't open world itself but the shitty optimization and code that caused it. And I can see for myself that even though sims 4 has no open world, there's still lag and poor optimization, so why couldn't we have some form of it anyway? And if low end pcs are going to get left in the dust anyway as the game continues, what was the point of taking away major gameplay aspects to cater to them in the first place??? Kinda in between, so people with shitty laptops don't have full worlds loading and slowing down? That was literally the only problem with open world that I had in S3, bigger worlds with more families were so painful on my shitty brokeass laptops or desktops that my families could afford lol. @@brittanygilbert7843 Exactly this! I'd absolutely love a full open world like Sims 3 again, but I know that's not the best move if they want to market the game to anyone, which they do now. They have a laptop mode, and their builds are so godawful because of the fact that many players cannot run a game with so many items causing lag (and also because they have crap builders, but). It's the best and safest choice to add open neighborhoods, and I still do not know why they didn't from the start in Sims 4. I expect it has something to do with the fact that Sims 4 was built from mobile tech, for a mobile app game, but instead of redoing all the work they had they just cut it up and tried to splice in some PC gaming abilities.

And then 2 actually came out and just revolutionized the way the game played and looked and felt to such a degree that I could never go back. And while 3 wasn't quite as revolutionary as 2, it still added so many new elements that you couldn't go back to 2 without feeling their absence.
But 4 - 4 never managed that. It did some things differently, but not necessarily better, and it didn't add enough that was genuinely new. EA really should have realized that each new game has to be revolutionary, or people are just going to stick with what they're already comfortable with.

Every single Sims game has been a delight in it's own way. 1 was an absolutely joy. When 2 came out, I enjoyed it for many years. 3 was absolutely revolutionary with it's open world and just everything in it, I loved it. So when 4 came out I pre-ordered it for €80. I was so excited to see how they had improved the game even more this time. Silly me. It was a huge letdown. I bought every single expansion, hoping that one of them at some point would make me love this game as much as the previous ones. But it was a waste of money. It has a pretty packaging but it's all empty inside. You can explore a new pack within the hour and then you've seen everything it had to offer. Which is very little.
Three things that I like about the sims 4: The way Sulani looks, the way the chickens walk and the fact that it crashes less often than the Sims 3. But in hindsight, had I known I'd pay that much money for just that, I would never have bought it to begin with.
The formula to improving a game is to take the previous game and add more stuff and better gameplay to it.
Not take away from it. And it's not just how hollow the gameplay itself is. Compare what you paid for a TS1/2/3 expansion pack and what you got for it in return to what you pay for a Sims 4 expansion and what you get in return.
Previous games: About €20-€30 an expansion. Gameplay and items: A whole dang lot. And the game had entire furnished worlds, houses and families. Everything actually looked like the developers cared.
Now the sims 4. Expansion: €40. What do you get in return? A few build/buy items, a few cas items, and a world with about 5 lots. Gameplay: 5 minutes of tutorial of said world.
And the worst part of it all is? When a new expansion drops I'd probably buy it anyway. The way the sims 4 is so severely lacking you keep hoping that the next expansion will fix it. But it never does.
Why not get it over with and let them just release the sims 5. And pray to god they actually invest people and money in making the gameplay great instead of this budget crap we get every single sims 4 expansion. We sure pay enough for it.

I honestly believe this constant request of sims 5 to be released will come with it's own backlash, and simmers won't take blame for them pushing for it and EA giving us a crap game again based on simmers constantly request for it. I've heard and read this request so many times this year alone, I have zero faith in it being better, and frankly feel the Sims franchise has run its course. They should stop adding paid dlc's and just fix the current game then retire the franchise. Not like they made a loss, of people like you and I who still buy even though we not happy.
Unfortunately, I honestly don't see 5 being better especially since the little we know of it has simmers divided on whether or not they are okay about being able to play with their friends and how that will work. That alone for me is a red flag because sims 4 has proven that the smallest thing is cause for dissapointment. As @plumbella said, the community can be wild (I'm paraphrasing) and already too my of us have requests o what we would like to see in the sims 5, of which I believe a lot of us will be dissapointed once more.

That's definitely not the reason why they didn't do open worlds. I think it was just better for the scrapped multiplayer, as many players in one world would cause some performance issues.
*Edit TS3 was also poorly coded, bugs everywhere, not to mention the last update to it broke it even more hence why it's recommended to buy TS3 on steam, before they released the broken final update..

Because most Simmers today are demanding online functionalities. Nearly every RPG today comes equipped with coop functionality, or at least adds it shortly after release. The massive popularity in Stardew Valley in the Sims community is proof of how well coop can be in games dedicated to more "life sim" approaches. And the best part is, Stardew Valley plays the exact same singleplayer as it does coop. Nothing about the game changes, besides the addition of another cabin.
So what's most likely (hopefully) going to happen is, they'll have a singleplayer mode and coop mode. That seems to work the best, and keep each mode separated for whenever you're not wanting to use it. I highly doubt it will be the oldschool Sims MMO they did for a while, mainly because they're trying extra hard to be overly family friendly these days. You can't have a family friendly MMO. Children are groomed daily in MMOs, so it's much safer for them to just have the option of choosing who they play with rather than being thrown into a game with random people

Once inside the game it largely worked fine. The only other thing that caused issues was create-a-sim but that's because I downloaded a shitload of CC which took forever to load, particularly since the game would load swatches as individual items (they really did a good thing by changing that in TS4). I'd circumvent that problem by creating placeholder sims, place them in the world, and then enter CAS via NRaas Master Controller where I had selected the option to view CAS in compact mode (only one swatch per item would load). That worked a charm, though in the future I may look for a mod that automatically makes CAS compact like that :P

Once I did that on both my old and new laptops, they were able to run TS3 really well (too well-I had to get an FPS limiter both times, lol). That's most likely because of the engine itself, as well as the 32 bit it has to run in. If EA were to actually give a single F about its players, they would update Sims 3 to 64 bit so we could actually play it again properly, but they've said for the past year that they never will. Just a single change, a 64 update, would cut the lag by at least half, if not more. The rest could be fixed with even just one NRAAS mod, and you'd have an unstoppable game
However... Island Paradise will never be playable. That's one world that a 64 bit update could never help. It's an unfortunate lost cause, and it is so disappointing because HOUSE BOATS. I don't even ever want to move the house boats from their port, but the fact that I could essentually have a house on the ocean?? Mind blowing

I got ts4 for free one day when they were offering it… and even then to me it isn’t worth playing. It feels bland, like there’s no life or personality in the world and sims. I was so upset when it released, after playing ts3 for years just to get an incomplete game? It sucked. And I don’t like how they’re still creating new things to squeeze every ounce of money from us. Kits? What’s the point when there is cc? It seems like they’re targeting console players. IMO They need to either do a complete haul of the game and fix it, or just move on to the sims 5, which I think should be sims 2 + sims 3.

Yeah...my friend got it for free during that promotion and told me "this is so boring...idk how you can play this all the time" and laughed at me. I said "well it's a lot better with the DLC and CC...that's just the base game". They looked at the prices of the DLC and laughed at me some more. Looking back at that interaction...I'm not even mad. Lol.

Speaking of the closed worlds, it's so weird and annoying. One of my sims once went to visit a friend in the same neighborhood, but I didn't want to stay and look over her, so I came back to my family, but then I scrolled around and saw my sim just standing there outside her friend's house chatting with said friend, which REALLY made me wonder why the actual hell did I have to sit through two whole loading screens.

  • @tonichan89
    @tonichan89 2 года назад +2

My biggest problem with a closed world (that isn't even semi-open) isn't just the loading screens, it's that my sim can't even go do something at the neighbors, or whatever is next door, without forcing the rest of the famallamadingdong to interrupt everything they're doing Dx and thus results in my households becoming complete and utter homebodies.

I am so glad I never had issues with the open world in Sims 3 and I don't even play on a high end computer. Instead I use a notebook and it never lags for me. Even when I play with all my expansions and literally so many mods and cc items

I never had too many problems with Sims 3 until recently, aside from long loading times when starting the game up, and slight lag in build/buy mode (and I used lots of CC) but recently my laptop has been getting older and slower in general so the lag has been getting worse to the point where it's almost unplayable. (Yes I've downloaded mods to help with lag, unfortunately I think it's just an issue with my computer in general.)

I got the Sims 4 on launch - huge mistake , I was in my early teens. Even with all the updates the initial betrayal still stings. Recently went back to sims 3 and downloaded sims medieval, I don’t think I’ll be returning to the sims 4. It’s still missing the little details that make the sims 3 feel more like a life simulator. I miss the newspaper from the sims 3 lol

i remember when ts4 first came out and i bought it. i was so so excited. i've played all titles, and i remember when i first had TS1 base game. i literally played it for hours every day. and i remember TS2 base game. the same thing...i would play the standalone game by itself, every day for hours. and then when the expansion packs came out the same thing would happen. and the same goes for TS3 base game and expansion packs (not all expansions of course, but most). so sitting down for the first time trying out TS4 base game, i expected the same thing. the disappointment i felt...i can't even put it to words. the base game is still meant to be playable and enjoyable on its own. and i could not enjoy it, at all. i was bored an hour into the game, it felt empty and lacking, and i could not for the life of me create an interesting sim, nor could i find an interesting townie. i think i played it for a couple hours and didn't play again :/
i've been playing more and more now though because of some expansions and of course, mods. but the fact that the base game is just absolute shite is inexcusable to me. EA ruined one of my favourite games and i've been hoping a new life simulation franchise will be created by other company, and thankfully, Paralives seems to be going quite well.
words can't explain how much i miss TS2 and TS3 and it would NOT have been difficult for EA to blend those two games, but make it more user friendly.

i'm 100% sure that toddlers, pools, basements and ghosts were removed from the original base game because they were supposed to be the firsts paid DLCs, and that's why the first expansion pack took so long on be released.

The sims 4 robbed me of the emotional investment I have in the story of my family within the world as it progresses. It’s just not as fun the previous versions. I can get used to the changes within each version but not the emotional investment in my stories I’m trying to create. One thought is that it feels very unfair when you are building your families relationships within the world and you feel like the neighbors passing by are just clones of the characters you are building your story progression with. It minimizes the emotional investment within your feels.

I have a lot of the same frustrations, but the biggest fault in the Sims 4 was changing the system requirements halfway through the game releases. I would strongly encourage an influencer to try playing Legacy edition and give a thorough review of how much the game lacks for those of us who literally can not afford a new computer just to continue playing a game.

agreed. i miss when expansions to the game were interesting and worth the money. i remember the sims 3 had a time travel expansion as the second final expansion. it kept me entertained for so long, and it wasn't a once-off thing that became stale. stuff changed in the future if you were in the present and you could cause a dystopia or utopia it was so cool!!!

I remember following the Sims 4 throughout pretty much it's entire pre-release period, and they had such huge ambitions for how open the game was going to be, but I remember that they started to do a lot of backtracking the closer it got to the game's release, saying how only the neighborhoods are going to be open world. Basically went back on their whole "no loading screens" thing.

I really miss the open world. Sims 3 runs great on my rig and always has as long as I don't add new CC or mods to a game I already started. If I run with no CC/mods (lol) it runs beautifully. Ran great on a laptop too? Maybe I just lucked out. I loved story progression and the different townies instead of the same 5 people over and over. 😑 Awful. Also I miss the fire fighter career?? And I don't really like the moods. But I will admit, build is way more intuitive and I like the premade rooms of you're feeling lazy.

Oooof, I signed that petition back in the day for pools and toddlers. It's been a while, huh?
I've seen smart computer people analyse why Sims 3 was so laggy, and while machine power is definitely an important factor, it would lag even with powerful machines; in fact, a too powerful machine could MELT, as the game had no internal limit to how fast it could run, and as such it could and did melt graphic cards. The culprit is a combination of poor engine optimization (Sims Medieval ran on an updated version of the same engine, and it both looks and runs better, even taking into account the smaller world), broken overworlds that break pathfinding and cause Sims to lag and glitch out as they try to find their way around (there are world replacements that fix roads, lot placement, and stuff like that, that GREATLY reduce these issues and therefore improve performance), and also a bit of broken lots and builds that also confuse Sims and disrupt pathfinding, seriously, Sims 3 pathfinding is a mess.
