1:34 this illustration is the reason that Henry was turned back green and got a new shape Bonus: situation in a nutshell Dulby: Wilbert, who am I writing again? Wilbert(from a distance): ... Henry! Dulby: he said Gordon
He was repainted as a reward for helping Gordon at the end of book 1. As for why he has rectangle buffers, he was repaired after that ordeal, but the workmen didn't have time to make new parts for Henry, so they used some of Gordon's spares.
I noticed another mistake to Henry's look, he has two windows on both his sides, but he should only have one on each since this was before he was fixed by crew.
The fact that Henry returned to Green, and was re-shaped, was because he looked just identical to Gordon in is old shape, especially when he was painted Blue at the end of the first book, and book 2,3,and 4, epecially in this drawing between 1:33 and 2:31 where even has rectangle buffers, like Gordon.
I prefer this and the UK adaptation in the classic series over the US because Thomas was a lot more rude to Henry unlike him saying “ you’re too slow. you need exercise”
Man, the illustrator was drunk when drawing the third illustration. Why? * Henry is drawn with SQUARE buffers, a Fowley tender, two windows, and a brass line on his chimney. His windows are also un-lined. * To add to that, the narrator/text says Henry was groaning about being out of order, but he seems to be smiling. * Thomas' left buffer is way too at the center. Its vice-versa on the other side of Henry's buffers. To those arguing about the former, the illustrator made the screw-up, and when readers asked Reverend about the square buffers, he quickly said he was being repaired and had to use Gordon's spare buffers. He, however; gave no explanation on the rest.
***** The yellow funnel was wrong, but in the Railway Series, Henry was repainted blue after he came out of the tunnel and helped Edward take the Wild Nor' Wester. Even so, the fact of Henry being blue caused too much confusion for the readers; so Rev. W. Awdry stated that people were also confusing him with Gordon. In Railway Series Book No. 5 "Troublesome Engines", the foreword states that Henry was given a new coat of paint, and Henry choose green, fixing further confusion, which was further fixed when Henry was rebuilt.
TheHappyTruckShunter He was often mistaken for Gordon, and thus Awdry let him have the Kipper accident to get a new shape, so he wouldn't be mixed up anymore.
TheHappyTruckShunter Ah yes, that infamous illustration of Henry by C. Reginald Dalby. He was infamous for always drawing Henry inconsistently in the early books, and Rev. W. Awdry was annoyed at that. It was due to this fiasco that Henry's accident with the Flying Kipper and subsequent rebuild into his current appearance was written in. Awdry did this so that Dalby would be forced to be more consistent when it came to drawing Henry.
Micawber 01 Come on now. Henry the Tender Engine choosing not to make a sad (😢😔😞) face when being name-called fat by Thomas the Tank Engine is extremely calm and mature when polite and gentle people see (👁👀) that with their own eyes (👁👀). And by the way, the Reginal Dalby paintings (🖼’s) in the book (📖📚) story are calm and mature.
2:41 the title read about james the red engine is a continuity error since that book should not have been published at that time. Or am I wrong? Correct me if I am wrong.....
This Thomas The Tank Engine & Friends story, picture, and episode reminds me of Morgan Byerly telling me what racist person I am for real even when I never try and promise to be, because Morgan Byerly was an mysteriously malicious, mean, and bothersome teacher (👩🏻🏫) for me to work with, deal with, put up with, and have for real. She mysteriously was for real.
Jonathan Lafferty It was due to a mess-up on the part of the illustrator, C. Reginald Dalby. The Rev. W. Awdry didn't like how Dalby often inconsistent when it came to his illustrations of Henry, plus the fact that Henry's original shape had a physical similarity to Gordon didn't help things either when Henry was repainted blue. I mean, it was so difficult to tell them apart back then, so in the fifth book (Troublesome Engines) Henry went back to his normal green. Awdry wanted Henry to be drawn more consistently, and that's how the story we know today as The Flying Kipper was written in. With Henry's new shape being based off a real locomotive, the LMS 5MT aka Black Five, Dalby had to be more consistent with drawing him from there on.
Wait what's Gordon doing and Gordon leaves and why Thomas is worried i thought that Thomas is cross and another thing when thomas stopped at the Signal why is he puzzeled i thought he was cross and when Gordon came why is he Happy i thought he was sick
Henry looks wierd. But the illustrator thought Henry had to look like this. He can't be green. He has to lokk like everyone else. Says the illustartor.
I like the brass chinmmy cap on henry chinmy I don way you can complain about him having a firenly simile I think when mr darby drore that illustration that if henry had ill face it mit scear children eliot reader

The funniest illustration on 1949
4:11 Thomas should be less concerned about the missing guard and more concerned about the fact that the signal actually told him to stop.
Henry was painted blue for a while, but he later returned to his usual green livery.

And the same side windows and tender as gordon
If absolutely not without the guard behind because really important going on train carriage
2:272:37 What a way to promote the last 2 books .

It wouldn’t be as scathing as “your too fat” but “your too lazy” would’ve worked better than “your too slow” in the US version
@@motorwayt-s628 because it’s kind of a joke really because engines can’t really get fat they only gain weight if more parts are fitted on them
@@kernowpictures2002 yeah it was funny, too bad us Americans even back then we’re too sensitive to hear it
@@motorwayt-s628 I completely agree with you it was woke before woke culture existed

That's a surprisingly good Early Dalby Illustration

Do the RWS Annie and Clarabel have faces?
0:44 oh nevermind
They always did they just tended to draw them in an angle we can't see them
Henry voice sounds like greenback in danger mouse 80 .

As we all can see Thomas is VERY cross there. Come on Dalby, I now know why Wilbert didn't like you.
