Thank you for having taken the time to post these videos. Because more hairstylists need the skill and the patience that you are teaching here. I have never had a good experience at a Hair Salon and im now 35 and thats sad. Its supposed to make you feel good about yourself to go get your hair done. And you just never know who you're going to end up with. Just seeing this video will make me feel more comfortable going to a salon in the future (if i absolutely must) because I will know what they need to do.

I love these layers. I messed up my hair watching another youtube video. I've done great with the unicorn cut in the past, but this was a reverse unicorn and was not right for my hair. I have a definite shelf. I'm growing it out and trying to clean up the layers following your video.

It's the clients nickel and you get paid to listen to clients that know what works for their hair. Don't forget it.
When I asked my stylist, I'd known for 15 years for a precision scissored cut on my long thick, coarse 2b curl hair - she hacked my hair with thinning shears & a "blending shear" to the point their were holes and massive chunks that didn't remotely blend. She whacked 4 inches off the bottom with 3 slices of the scissors..even I would have taken more care at home. My stomach went up in my throat, & face began turning red. The weight line she created was around my ears , my hair was mid back in length . She destroyed any curl pattern my hari naturally had - the thinned out hair she said was "layered" didn't connect with the bottom, so it was like I had 2 cuts going on. I asked her in the beginning about the angles ( 45/ 90 etc) because I trimmed my hair my self for years & it looked very good. She said she didnt know what I was talking about - She'd been cutting for over 25 years. 25 years and doesn't know basic geometry to follow a guide for layering? Covid taught me how to cut my hair at home and will never ever pay to be butchered again. To add insult on injury, she told me my gray hairs were what was causing it to behave badly after she blowdried it. It looked like barbie hair cut by a childs safety scissors. This was the owner of the salon, that did this to my hair. No where to turn.

Got my haircut, long thick beautiful black hair. Needed some layering in the fruit and a trim. The guy has been cutting hair for 40 years. He blowdried foreverrrrr I could smell it burning! Went home thought it looked fine. When I washed it then I could tell how choppy the layers are. These are face framing layers, uneven and choppy, ughh I bought a pair of hair cutting scissors but don’t know if I can fix it myself. I’ve had many bad haircuts, all of them special!!! Never had one so choppy before so this is a new one

You are Amazing! I had such a horrible experience recently My hairdresser retired . I went to a hairdresser I had never been to at the same salon. I wanted to get my hair relayered and even get the "butterfly layers " I had been growing my hair out for 3yrs and haven't even dyed it, I would occasionally get my split ends cut and for once I was so happy and confident with my hair but wanted a little movement. When I went to this new hair dresser I noticed she was having a bad day and ruined my hair. She had a bad posture when she was cuting my hair she even seemed mad. The end result was uneven choppy layers she took off over 12 inches in length ( even though I told her not to take off more than 3 inches ) the shortest layer was supposed to be by my chin or mouth and ended up being by my eye. This is the worst haircut I've ever had. 😫 All I could do was cringe as she tried to over correct my hair when it was all over the owner even who I've known for over 18 yrs was surprised that my hair was so short. I was in such a state of shock and frustration I didn't say a word. I just gave a thumbs up and paid. After.2 mos I finally grew it out enough to get it possibly fixed but am so paranoid in getting my hair cut because of what happened. Looking back at your video I see that she didn't have the right posture, when she was cutting my layers she wasn't blending my layers and they look so stringy. To the point that It doesn't even fall into place. I have what looks like a mullet. But thanks to your video I have an idea of what to look for when I get my hair relayered

This is my story to a T. Meaning the exact same thing happened and I'm starting to think the butterfly has flown for the last time because the shelf on the back of my head is awful, I'm getting ready to try to fix it and blend what I can and my hair was a couple inches above my waist and now it's right at my bra line, several inches taken off just for wanting layers, wish me luck 😢

I tried the new pigtail cut. I didn't get them evenly placed on my head unfortunately, so one side has shorter layers than the other side. Thankfully the overall look seems even-ish and I didn't take off too much. My hair is wavy so it helps hide it for now. But now I have to wait at least 6 months for it to grow out enough to get it fixed without losing too much length. 😭

I got my hair yesterday and the stylist asked me how I wanted it cut. I said light layering and to cut off 1 inch for the length. I have a basic bob with long layers but yesterday, she butchered my hair and made it uneven and got more layering than what I wanted. The shape is gone and not there! Now I have to get my hair redone somewhere else.
Also I want to add that I felt rushed because she was the only stylist in the store. It was not a dedicated session to cutting my hair. I have a few longer strands along the bottom that she did not get!

I went in to get a cut and color about to my collar bone, maybe shoulder. I wanted curtain bangs; I also knew that the picture I showed her was of a girl who had thinner hair than me (literally every picture I ever show is of thinner hair; I want more thick hair with good examples of cuts), and I was fully ready to tell her I understood and just do what you could to make it similar. She didn't say anything to me. She just said, "Oh, cute," and proceeded to put the highlights in the wrong spot for my part (very beautiful highlights, though) and then chunked the hell out of my hair to almost my ears. She styled it in a way where I was like, it's not so bad.. . But when I washed my hair, my bangs were fully just a shelf of hair around my head. And it was funny, cause she joked about Brad Mondo ruining people's hair and I spent probably 250 dollars getting her cut fixed somewhere else 😅

I had my sister (who never fully finished beauty school) make my hair blonde, but only the top half. So I have a very strong foundation and the underneath part of my hair is almost down to my butt. I've been growing it out for 7 years and it's finally to the length that I want it to be at. But when she layered it, there was no balance. There was way too much space between the longest part of my hair and where she started layering above that. And then, after all the toning that I've been doing over the last couple of years, my hair has been breaking but only the blonde part, the top half, so the layers have continuously gotten shorter and shorter. The part of my hair underneath, my foundation, is naturally dark brown and healthy. And like I said, it's almost down to my butt, but my shortest layer is about chin length at this point! It would make me cry if I had to lose any of the length because it's taken me so long to get my hair back to this. And I know it's my own fault for going blonde in the first place and not knowing how to take better care of it after bleaching. But since all the breakage, I want it to look better because my hair is very naturally thick and when I straighten it I have people asking me if my hair is real. And I didn't understand why they were asking that until a few weeeks ago when I noticed how much longer the dark part of my hair is than the rest of it and it looks like I'm wearing hair extensions that do not blend in with the rest of "my" hair. I have been cutting some of my own split ends off. But I feel like that made my hair look even worse because it seems like the frizzy ends were what we're helping it look at least a little bit more blended, but they obviously had to go. So I don't know what to do now because I do not trust anybody else to touch my hair. And I'm not a hairstylist. I've always done my own hair but I am afraid to cut it by myself when its like this because i could easily make it even worse. But every time I have been to a Hair Salon, my stylist has always done whatever they wanted to do instead of what I asked for and I have never had a good experience at a Hair Salon. So I do not want to risk getting all of my hair cut off because they don't have the patience or skill that you do.
    Please Help! 🥺

I just did a medium shag cut on myself with a tutorial, of course. I was careful to do exactly what the guy said to do, which included sectioning off a certain way. Problem is....my hair was not all one length at the time that i did this, like his "Mannie Quinn" s was....as that one stylists says....lol. Anyhoo, so that meant that when i cut the sides of my head, there were shorter pieces that were not included into that one cut on each side of my head. So now, I am trying to somehow fix that. What i was wondering is......when you are doing all of this "layer fixing " and just grabbing all of these sections randomly, with seemingly no real organized or particular fashion....it makes me nervous...lol So, i guess my question here is.....when doing this, its not about the section size or location or direction that matters of what your grabbing, its just making sure that you keep your fingers straight and cut the line of hair even (using your shortest hair in that bunch as your guide to cut the rest)?? Thank you........

First she asked me if I wanted my haircut dry cut or washed and then cut 😳 I chose wet because I really trusted her and well the person that used to cut my hair did so. Then, she continued to ask me what I wanted, and I just wanted a trim. Take in consideration I have really thick hair and lots of it, and my hair was 3 to 4 inches longer than the maniquin’s. I told her, I didn’t want layers but she ended up convincing me. She said she had to take a good amount of hair and ended up being exactly like this! Choppy, with no mullet, and that top layers are about an inch longer. I wasn’t mad at it really due to I wanted the rest of bleached over processed tips gone, and they where ☺️that was the only thing I’m still excited for but now the next morning, I’m trying to figure out if I should go back to her( but what if she ends up finalizing the butcher) or should I go somewhere else? FYI : she didn’t blow out my hair at the end. I just needed some TLC man… smh

I I did same thing. I been cutting my own hair for long time as it is fine, & this time I messed up the top of my hair in with bangs & keep trying to do it dry see where I can go around the shores peices and not cutting the shorter pieces & still looks scrappy. I hate it & scared to go shorter to just even it

I'm practicing the 90° state board haircut on my dolly. She's a hot mess. Good for me she doesn't complain.
My license expired 30+ years ago. Now I want to reinstate it and I need practice. This haircut is tough.
Maybe because I have a (gasp) cheap eBay head with synthetic hair...but I really think it's a technique problem. I measured my comb at the nape and worked up to the front.
When checking through it, parts were longer by 2 inches. I think I lost my guide. The synthetic hair actually is nice. I can wash it and dry it on low settings. For cheap, it's not too bad.
I have more expensive name brand maniquines with real human hair. I don't want to butcher them yet.
Tennessee, wants us to start at the nape and use a razor "somewhere" in the cut. It's not very specific about the razor part. Most of the cut is done with scissors.

Hi I asked for long layers only about an inch from bottom layers went up about 3 or 4 inches on 1 side and layers were shorter on 1 side than other..underneath my hair on one side she layered up that 1 side. Is this called step layering? I have no idea what it is. When I asked stylist she said because my hair has a deep part and that why layers are shorter on 1 side? I never heard of that..I noticed it was uneven shorter on 1 side and she didn't want to admit it

@@lindabrown5359 I posted my comment 9 months ago...good news is that I'm actually improving.
The human hair mannequin is so much better than the synthetic hair. I can actually see the difference. I'm still practicing before I work on people.

I have very thick hair like the mannequin. My hair is curly and I blow it dry to get it relatively straight.. I need long layers from the top down to take off the weight. My hairdresser has cut little tiny layers at the bottom which triangles it out and makes it heavy. The last time she cut super short layers on top and razor cut the sides. I have been to her for 20 years. I always take a picture. I always ask her, "will my hair do this". My hair never looks like the pic. I want my hair to look like your mannequin.
