- Episode 149. Dewar's Blended Scotch. This one seemed to show up on the shelf out of nowhere. It is crazy affordable, and lots of flavour to go around. I'm not a big blended Scotch fan, but this one is a must buy. Have you tried it? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour
Jon, Good review and lots of details. I really like the idea of getting 375 ml bottles so you can experience more offerings and then buy the larger size if you enjoy. Wish there were more 200 to 375 ml bottles out there. CHEERS!!
Totally agree! My collection would have so much more breadth if I could buy half bottles!
Thanks for the review Jon. I really enjoined this scotch, I'm not an expert but the smoothness and the cinnamon note definitively captivate me. One of the best whiskies I have ever tried. Cheers!!
Thank you for sharing your experience. I continue to really enjoy this release, a quality, tasty dram!
Dewar’s pioneered the process of “marrying” the whisky in oak casks to allow the blend to age as one within the casks. After the blend is created, the whisky is returned to an oak cask and aged even further to obtain a smooth, robust finish.
Bacardi, which claims the brand's "White Label" to be the top-selling blended Scotch in the US.
Dewar’s is also the world’s most awarded blended Scotch whisky with more than 500 medals earned in international competitions.
Dewar’s rose to prominence in the United States when Andrew Carnegie requested a small keg of Dewar’s Scotch whisky be sent to the White House for President James Garfield's inauguration. Carnegie also sent the same gift to President Benjamin Harrison on his inauguration eight years later.
In 1987, numerous cases of still perfect Dewar's Scotch were recovered by underwater archaeologist E. Lee Spence from the shipwreck of the SS Regina, which sank in Lake Huron in 1913
Cool history friend. I'd love to try those preserved bottles!
Now that's some very interesting history... Slainte!
WhiskyThrottle JÄgermeister real juice black cherry 🍒 and cola
Wow I'm going to keep an eye open for that one. There are so many to try , never have to have the same one twice.
I agree, so much variety to try out. I hope you can find this, it's a good one IMO. Cheers!
A friend of mine shared this bottle with me on a recent vacation and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s about $50 US near me for the 375, which I will happily pay if I find it on the shelf. Nice review.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this too. I continue to agree, great release, Cheers!
I wasn't even aware they did a 21 year blended. Great review Jon. Cheers and thanks for sharing.
It was a great find! I hope it comes your way.
Thanks for the review Jon! This was at the BC Liquor Store Premium Spirit Release, but we got hosed on the price. $60! I passed at that price.
That is steep. Still a good dram though. Maybe it will show up again for less!
@@WhiskyNeighbour im stuck here in BC as well we totally get shafted by BCLDB
@@kevinm919 Sometimes you have access to interesting bottles that don't show up here though. But I agree, price seems high.
Purchased a bottle last weekend. Can't wait to try it. 50 US dollars
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Bought this for a friend last night for his 51st birthday. We sampled it and we were both really impressed. Purchased for 46 bucks in Northeast Saskatchewan. Slainte’
Great gift idea and I'm glad you both enjoy it. I have been very impressed with this bottle. Take care!
Very interesting price! No wonder I never saw it locally... You have so much more to choose from in Alberta.
Is that because we drink more?! It is crazy sometimes the clearance stuff that happens here.
@@WhiskyNeighbour No, I'm convinced that you just don't have the same insane greedy control freaks running the place that we have... At least I'm doing my part to keep our quantity of drinking up LOL The whole province should get a volume discount based on all my efforts!
@@foodquig lol!! You and me both Quig! Cheers
i know where to buy it in Alberta, the price from $80 for 27 years old and $110 for 21 years old. In Calgary, Olympic Liquor store in front of Marlborough mall.
I don't pick up many of these tasting notes with the newer release. It's also now a LOT darker. I'd love an updated review of this, as I feel it's not nearly as complex as you describe, but it may just be my ignorance. Of course there will be variances between releases, but this just seems excessive. And of course, the price has shot up unfortunately, but what bottle hasn't?
Certainly worth a re-review.
Great review. It's interesting that you get a 375ml bottle versus the 500ml version in the UK. The 4 stage aging process is a little complex to explain but you did a good job of getting this across.
Lol! You found it. It is interesting that we get the half bottle, but it has been great for gifts over the past year. Solid price, nice look.
@@WhiskyNeighbour it's certainly a bargain in your region
the Dewar's double double 32 years is excellent!! Will you reviewit?
I would like to, but it is hard to find. Hopefully!
Jon, thanks for directing me to Wine and Beyond in Red Deer, it was an eye opener for me. Their Irish section is about the size of the whole whisky section in my rural small town liquor store. So many bottles I wanted but in the end I got their last Dewar's 21 and I got a Dewar's Tasting Collection - 3 x 200 ml of Dewar's 12, 15 and 18. Great to be able to sample these smaller sizes. Maybe an idea for you use this tasting collection to do a comparison of the entire Dewar's range?
Great idea for a comparison Terry. I'm glad you enjoyed the store, certainly an amazing selection! Let me know what you think of the Dewar's 21. Cheers!
@@WhiskyNeighbour Finally opened the Dewar's 21. I am really enjoying it. Familiar flavors, similar to the 12 but richer, deeper, more intense but not overpowering. Very enjoyable, not too challenging. By contrast, I tried a Highland Park 12 at a bar the other day. That is a complicated whiskey, so much going on, so much to enjoy. Very different from this 21, but then in another review you said that you need to give the 21 time to open up so maybe there will be more going on to look forward to in my future sipping. Still waiting on the 12, 15, 18 21 comparison episode... :)
Just picked one up today. last one that has sat BC signature store. from the premium spirits release $59+tax a little high but I had a visa gift card for $25 so $44 out of pocket lol , will try it tonight :)
Let me know what you think. I know I say this a lot, but I found this bottle opened up with a bit of time too, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Great review, it does not take water well. Pairs nicely with a Sobremesa Brule cigar.
I will need to venture into cigar pairings one day! Cheers
probably the sweetest whiskey besides makers mark I've ever had
Cheers!!
Really curious about the age-stated Dewar's line. I see the 12-year for $30, 15-year for $40, and 18-year for $65-70 but haven't pulled the trigger yet.
Based on this, I am more interested to try the range!
I have not tried the older age statements (15 and 18 years), but love the 12 year old. Best quality to value ratio blended Scotch that I have ever tried. My preferred affordable daily sipper. Slainte!
@@brianchristensen366 I've picked a bottle of the 12 up. I can't wait to try it now!
I'm with you on this one, don't know why I haven't tried it yet.
Just tried the 12 yrs and I loved it. No water pls.
Great review!
Thanks!
Hello fellow Albertan. Edmonton is my birthplace but I live in Calgary. I just found this whisky for $39 at Highlander. Can't wait to try. Stay well. Go....no hockey team....:(
I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Take care , and stay well!
@@WhiskyNeighbour so I tried it and while the palette is very enjoyable the nose underwhelmed me and the finish had a bit too much bite. Still a decent dram for the money.
@@gregunrau7031 too bad the nose did not interest you. Maybe if you come back to it in a while it will be better for you. At least it was not too expensive!
@@WhiskyNeighbour well I have to say that even a couple of days later after the first experience I am really coming around on the nose. The palette continues to impress and the finish??? There is something not quite on pointe....not unbearable but a bit of harshness/bitterness......so I would have originally scored this about 6.5/10 initially but I would now go up to 8/10. Next up i am going to try the Aberfeldy 12 which is a key input to Dewar's other products. Sláinte.
@@gregunrau7031 glad it has improved for you. I would need to pour another dram to consider the finish. Perhaps tonight. Let me know what you think about the Aberfeldy. I have not had that release.
En Puerto Rico, donde consigo el dewars 21 ? Nadie lo vende
I hope someone responds as I have no idea! Sorry I cannot help.
Subbed because of your opening montage !
Great! I have fun trying to find quick clips to highlight reviews. Cheers!
Bottom line Dewers is my go to when out on the town and not in the exploring mode. Can't beat the price flavor ratio.😌...would be curious if you could do a series on Whiskey Advocate's Whiskeys of the year independent review. Do the reviews hold up in your opinion...the difficulty being, how many can you put your hands on??? 1👍🥂 kerp up the good job no matter.
Generally I find their recommendations tasty. Iwould not always put them in the same order, but the top five have never failed to dissapoint. That said, Ican't always get the bottles, for example George Dickle BiB from this year, is nowhere to be found! It's a great idea for a series though! Thanks.
Great review! Though, you added too much water. Should only add a few drops, if any. Less is more as you can always add more after!
Thanks for the advice!
now, 79cad in Edmonton
@chenxulyu-xr2qf the stock must be running out. I am sure when it is re-stocked, it may become even higher. Sadly . Thanks for letting me know.
Hi Jon, crazy cheap price, unbelievable, especially for long aged scotch.
Totally agree! Rare to find deals like this now. I feel lucky!
@@WhiskyNeighbour I had Chivas 21, fantastic product, far from regular, but worth like an aircraft
@@artemrepin1746 interesting, I would be interested in older blends now. This bottle was good.
@@WhiskyNeighbour Blue Label is waiting ))
have you ever tired the 32? It is supposed to be like nothing else and incredible.
Sadly no. Hopefully one day!
@@WhiskyNeighbour hopefully! Or even the 27 I hear is also excellent
Maybe alittle to much water,,1 or 2 drops may have worked,,could be just a delicate whisky.
Likely, a drop and let it rest would be the best.
It costs $79.75 in Quebec at the SAQ.
What? The half bottle? it's still $39 here. I love it, like alot, but twice the price is really tough to justify.
@@WhiskyNeighbour I just doubled checked the website. $79.75 / 375ml. Whisky has gone up in price here and high end whisky is more difficult to find of late due to shipping issues and people staying home and drinking during the pandemic.
@@drose4138 Well, that is a lot to pay. Still good whisky, but a tough ask.
@@WhiskyNeighbour You can t find an 18yr whisky here in Quebec for under $150 (750ml). So the price for this Dewars is not outrageous but I will pass for now. Thanks for your reviews. Cheers
@@drose4138 Always happy to share some thoughts on whisky. Cheers indeed, take care.
I just bought a 375 ml bottle for 79$
I would have bought a whole case if it was still 40$
I did buy a couple extras $40 CND is an amazing deal for this Scotch. Glad you brought it home, what do you think?
@@WhiskyNeighbour
I didn't get to try it yet
it's my only bottle so it will go in the collection ...until it's time to drink it :)
I'd love to get the 27 years
the 32 is probably a bit too expensive for me haha
$45 USD in 2022.
That is certainly more than I was able to pick it up at, but this continues to be a Scotch I enjoy.
JÄgermeister real black cherry 🍒 and cola
Black cherry and a bit of cola I would agree with. Not so sure about the JAgermeister!
