I owned 8 GS 750G GS 850G and that GS 1000G they are absolutely one of my top favorite bikes. The weakest problem with them was the oval O ring that sealed the oil gallery at the bottom of the barrels They tended to collapse inwards which caused a substantial oil leak between the barrels and the crank case. I modded mine to prevent this issue from happening and to this day a friend of mine who bought one of my GS1000G's is still riding it as his daily driver . Mechanically he says he just changes the oil regularly and checks the shims periodically. It has way over 150k kms on it and still going strong. That needle roller crank is bulletproof.

Change the oil and check the valves, that's the Suzuki way. Is that a shim over bucket setup?

@@AmenMoto Yeah that's correct, the shim sits on top of the bucket that covers the top of the valve and spring.
