I am not German and I also know. this truck is actually an k 2624/40 and not a 1924. 1924 is a 4x2 truck; this one here is a 6x4. also this bonneted type truck was in production in many parts of the world until mid 90s. this one has a 6 ton front axle and 2x10 rear axle hence the 26. engine in both cases is an om355 inline 6 giving 240 hp hence the 24 in the name plate.
2628 has got two rear diffs. it is a 26 ton 240HP . used to be OM352 and now they use OM355 . Both models are being manufactured in Iran and you can buy a brand new one right now!
Mercedes stopped making them in the 80s because of EU regulations . New trucks with engines under the cabin . Put today, they’re still made in Saudia Arabia.

These machines were possible to be build because of the cheap energy, if the barrel was at $500.00, such machines won’t be ever produced.
