In the 70's they would have polls for best male and female vocalist. Just about every year Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin and Ann Wilson from Heart would win.

Anne was great. Best? I'd have to give that to Sandy Denny, who sang with Robert Plant on Zeppelin's 'battle of evermore' on Led Zeppelin 4. Her solo work, along with her work with Fairport convention, is in my opinion the best singer in recorded history.

    • @kendallneason3645

Nah Freddie Mercury best male voice. Even Robert Plant agreed. But Anne Wilson has the best female voice no doubt. Still!

Nancy Wilson flawlessly plays the intro (Silver Wheels) into the song. Between Ann’s magnificent voice and Nancy’s expertise on the guitar, Crazy on You has solidified itself in rock history.

Now THAT is Heart! Their 1970s gold, not that 1980s stuff. Glad you got to this one, fun reaction. "Love Alive" and "Heartless" would be great next tracks to check out. If you prefer to view live versions of the songs, you might want to try the ones from the group's 1977 tour that have been posted on RUclips by Fisher Bros and the Human Tribe. I think the sound quality on those is a bit better than on the official music videos. Another great slow burner that turns into a banger is 1978's "Mistral Wind". Finally I agree with other posters that at some point, maybe after hearing a few more of Heart's hits, you will definitely want to watch Ann and Nancy's cover of "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center.

One thing about Heart is those girls never had any bad activity with major drugs or scandalous behavior attributed to them. They were just homebody ladies thar loved to rock out. And of course every teenage boy, including myself were googly eyed over them lol.
Ann is a monster singer. Just one of the best female rock voices, if not the best, ever. A beast.

This was from 1977 I think. I saw Heart in Seattle that same year, and Anne and Nancy Wilson were amazing! Anne's voice is one of the most powerful I've ever heard...male or female. Both are so talented. Music was just on a different level back in the 60s and 70s. Almost everyone today, sounds just like the next artist.

Bert Sugarman's "Midnight Special" was one of the greatest music programs ever. It ran from 1973-1981, featured bands and artists from all genres and the musicians actually played LIVE instead of miming and/or lip syncing like almost every other show at the time (American Bandstand, Soul Train, etc)

Thanks for once again brightening my evening with another great song. I loved Heart when I saw them several times through the years, the Wilson sisters always had a great band and killer songs. Best time I ever saw them was in a huge amphitheater with Jason Bonhom opening up with a set of Led Zeppelin classics, then Heart came out and played an hour of their best tunes then Jason came back out and the 2 bands jammed together for another hour of Zeppelin tunes! Amazing stuff, they had us out of our minds by the end. For Heart try: Magic Man, If Looks Could Kill and Alone. Enjoy, I sure do and you did brighten my Monday evening, lovely lady! Rock On. 😎

  • @bossfan49

Angela, that guitar is made by Ovation guitar mfr (founded in Harford, CT). Instead of squared sides and back made from wood, they use a rounded bowl shape made of synthetic composite material. Some have a normal round sound hole in the center, but others like the one Nancy is playing have a series of smaller holes arranged in the upper bout. The intro she plays incorporates elements of the Spanish "flamenco" style.

  • @sushibar777

The intro was actually another song called "Silver Wheels", written by Nancy. The under appreciated part of this performance is the guitar playing of Roger Fisher, which really is what drives the song, along with Howard Leese also playing guitar. Nancy's acoustic guitar adds a lushness to the sound, but it is the electric guitars and the singing that drive the song.

As someone earlier mentioned, the guitar that Nancy is playing is made by Ovation. They have a plastic body rather than a wooden one like most folk guitars. Someone gave me one that was almost identical to that one only with a broken headstock. I gave it to my sister who got it fixed for $150. As a guitarist, I don't like that Ovation guitars have a rounded back which I don't really care for, not because of the sound but because it slides down when I'm trying to play it. My sister used to teach music but she already had a guitar so she gave it to her daughter.

I haven’t had the chance to go through your whole playlist yet, but a couple more gems (and personal favourites} from Heart would be “Magic Man” and their version of “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin (make sure you see the Kennedy Honours Live version when LZ was being honoured. And I see several Chicago songs on your playlist…..you should check out Leonid and Friends…..they do a lot of Chicago covers which often sound better than the original band.
