Death - THE SOUND OF PERSEVERANCE Album Review

- Death is an all time legendary act. So this album being a classic is no shocker. However, the final Death release shows Chuck writing with a renewed vigor, and drifting more toward that which he accomplished with his second band, Control Denied. More progressive than their previous works, but still chalk full of amazing music and thought-provoking lyrics, The Sound of Perseverance will continue to be one of the most important albums in metal history. It shows a band reaching its finale at the top with an experiment that worked to perfection. The additives were mixed correctly, the instrumental track soars to almost unseen heights, and the cover of Judas Priest's "Painkiller" raised the bar on cover songs, something that the bands on PUNK GOES CLASSIC ROCK should've studied with more interest.
A legendary album by a legendary band. A swansong for the ages, and a fitting finale for the great pioneer of death metal, DEATH.
spirit crusher is what got me into death and is so my favorite death song.
Airsoft N' Rock is life same
Flesh And The Power It Holds got me into them literally about a week ago. I haven't listened to anything else since.
🤘
Voice of soul, man that "song, track whatever you wanna name it", is one of the most artistic pieces of music I've ever listened to, it's so sophisticated and emotional but still death metal, I could talk about it for day but the best way to describe it is simply to listen to it, if you haven't I highly recommend it you will love and cherish the day you listen to it
Malik RattleHead \m/ you describe my favorite song from Death
A true masterpice
I know, right? I have the 2cd set with demo's in the 2nd disc.
I just preordered the reissue of this Album on Amazon. I can not wait to get it! I have a hard time finding their older albums, such as Leprosy. I am on the look out. Anyway, I cannot wait for this album to be delivered on February 20th
THIS IS THE PAINKILLER
THIS IS THE PAINKILLER
It's impossible for me to pick beween Human, Symbolic and TSOP. All 3 are incredible.
one of my favorite bands. you talked about all the important details of this CLASSIC album. GREAT REVIEW !!!
One of my all time favorites. Chuck was a genius.
this album changed my life and fully got me into death metal, fantastic album, fantastic review
I'm not a death metal fan, but I actually like The Sound of Perseverance. It's pretty fucking cool.
Nightmare92616 it's progressive metal.
imho symbolic was the last death metal album Death produced, but TSoP is their best
great review dude! this was the album that got me into death metal. it's a true classic album.
This is Deaths best and (sadly) last album. Great review.
awesome review man
Great review!
@coverkillernation i'm sure you are up to date with all of the Death and Control Denied news, but I just in case you aren't, the Death albums will be reissued on Relapse Records this year and Control Denied is going to finish the last album!
That solo on "A Moment of Clarity" is blistering, can't help but do air guitar to that haha.
i remeber the first time i herd this a few weeks i could not stop playing it
awesome review
@420megadeth where can i find those control denied songs?
Cool man, nice review. TSoP has always been my favorite Death album, partially for the progressive structuring and partially for the beefy production.
I just ordered the 3CD Reissue on Relpase! I ordered two new shirts too Relapse has added a bunch of new Death shirts to their site. I can't wait to wear the Chuck Schuldiner tribute shirt.
I think this is their best album
@mickeydeebassman I was able to order all of Death's older albums on Amazon except for Spiritual Healing. I still haven't been able to find that one.
The late nineties were a great era for metal overall. Just at the same time Opeth, Nevermore, In Flames, Devin Townsend, Arcturus, Immortal, Katatonia, Therion, Symphony X, Kataklysm and so many more took off. Ahh those were the days,
Pantera!
this was the first death album i listened to... my favorite death albums are individual thought patterns and human
@SrM90 just wait throughout the year. all will be released on Relapse (except Symbolic)
Are you from Pittsburgh?
Nice account of TSOP disc.
i loved TSOP, The flesh and the power it holds, and Spirit crusher just made me fall in love with Death. but I think Inividual thought patterns and Symbolic are the best, IMO.
reissue of this available mid Feb! :D
A must have album and I listen to all genres.
review more albums
I'm not going to lie, the first time I heard Voice of the Soul, I actually did cry a little.
I still do :)
The sound of perseverance had multiple re dos of control denied songs, which were progressive power metal songs
what the Hell happened when you said "check this out: you seemed so weird after that and disappointed
Alot of the material of The Sound of Perseverance was meant for Control Denied
When he says less heavy in regards to the way Symbolic album sounds , I'm not sure we're listening to the same album .
I would agree with him though, in terms of heaviness. I personally think The Sound of Perseverance is less heavy and aggressive than Symbolic. I think its more progressive, however, and the better album, but still, I think Symbolic is far more heavy and aggressive.
Goabnb94 Exactly right
WHAT
PAAAAAIIIIN
Not the most interesting progressive/power metal album with a bit harsher vocals. No death metal in there.
Death's worst album. I'm not even trolling. Blows my fucking mind that people even like this shit more than their earlier releases.
Cool.
Really? I think it's their best. But maybe because I like progressive music more than death metal.
TheKevlar4 I agree
***** Leprosy sounds like it was mastered with a gamboy advance in a bedroom, TSOP is defenetly the best album
The lo-fi production of Leprosy makes it heavier. *****
