After talking to you I really appreciate the video. Am watching all of them. You are the turbo pro. I wish more people would appreciate these cars for what they are and where they stand in Pontiac and GM history. It being a turbo is what drew me to the car. I like different and you can't get any more so than with the great look and the turbo. Thanks so much
I'm happy to know someone appreciates the underdog Pontiac 301 Turbo, and I'm looking forward to the next development of yours. I was 10 year old when these Turbo Trans Am were brand new on dealership lot, and I understand 301 have some severe limitations which led to its obsoletcy in the eyes of average enthusiasts, I'm glad you are making efforts! Thank you!
I think what you did joe is awesome 👏 hey why don’t you bore a 301 turbo car 30 over ? See how much more horse power you’d get ! I know it would be a bit more ! Anyway love what your doing with these bandit cars ❤️❤️❤️
+.030 bore effect would be negligent in HP. However, if the rings were leaking, and over boring with new pistons and rings tightened the loss, then there would be some improvement.
One of your best videos, Joe. You 1st show the car, and describe the mods. under the hood. Gave us a glance at the interior. Allowed us to witness the test, (with perfect editing). Then concluded with an honest synopsis. Well done. P.S. The video date is a day before the worst political disaster to hit this country, since O'Bama.
Love the car, I had an 80 trans am and now I have an 83. I would love to get another 79 through 81 trans am. The only thing I don’t like about the 4.9 is that they make no power. Great video.
@@ttaperformance1046 Thanks! That what I thought. Not a T/A ( Unfortunately) but I've got a 79 Formula 301 4 bbl factory 4 speed in very good shape. Just wish the 301 had a little more power.
@@ttaperformance1046 It's got a 308 posi . It's not as slow as it's reputation. But it's no 400. It's actually not too bad off the line, it just seems to lack power up around 4000 rpm.
@@stephenflowers8516 the 301 heads and intake are restrictive. They only pull to about 4k. A little more cam might help, but you might be better off shifting at 4k and take advantage of the lower rpm power.
Hey man, since you have 15x8 turbo wheels, would you measure the distance between the hubcap and the machined lip of the wheel? I’ve got about 1 inch distance. Wondering if mine are 7.5 o 8 inch wheels, I saw that in your other video. Thanks
If you're trying to make HP then why for the love of God are you still running that parasitic fan? Installing an electric fan would be the first thing I would do.
@@ttaperformance1046 By the way. I’m a huge fan of these cars. I was a freshman in high school when they came out and at the time there was nothing cooler. I’m glad to see someone giving them the love that they deserve.👍

I love this car and your knowledge of the TA
Thanks Joe. Impressive gain. Looking forward to more videos!

Wish you were here in Indpls so you could work on my 80 turbo. Great videos

Every eng. makes power. Some more than others. Just need-ta be honest in what you really need.
I watch this video a few times, I wonder if you put the water injection at the turbo housing that should be better. I dont know if that is possible.
You can inject post turbo. It requires a pump that can provide higher pressure to overcome the boost pressure.
I thought the Turbo Trans Ams were 210 hp ?
1980 is 210hp at the flywheel. 1981 was rated at 200 hp.

@stephenflowers8516 check what rear gears it has. Most of the NA 301s have a highway gear that doesn't give it much performance.

Did these come in a manual?
The turbo only came with an automatic.
is there a way to stop the power antenna from going up when I turn the radio on? like a dedicated fuse?
How can I find and comunicate this guy ?? Anyone got his email or other form of contact? Thanks in advance

Is that interior an RPO 63B?
"Shes a little ratty, but I dont care" ha ha!! My man ... love it
I've got my battery strapped in with a old army type cloth belt lol
Did you have those headers on when you did your dyno pulls?

I'll get you a dimension next time I'm in the garage.
I measured mine. 1" down from the surface to the top of the center cap is an 8" turbo wheel.
I took the wheels off a WS6 1980 TTA. 15x8 then, according to your measurement. Thanks!
Have you ever considered switching to a 200-4r trans and a 3.73 rear gear?
Dyno the T/A with FI Tech or Holley Sniper injection
I will be doing that soon. I have installed a FiTech on a couple of 301Ts.

Its a factory clutch fan. Not as bad as a direct drive fan. I am thinking of trying electric at some point.
