    Excellent presentation! I carry 5" 1911 as well. Appendix does not work for me as the muzzle digs into my nuts when driving; also, the seat belt interferes with my draw. I find cross-draw with standard heavy duty suspenders works well. It is not a perfect solution, but it works for me. I also like the fact that the butt does not print in cross-draw, since it is butt-forward.
    Glad you have found a system that allows you to carry such a large, heavy (and effective) pistol. I own several tupperware guns and will carry one when circumstances call for it, but the 1911 is my personal all day every day choice.

    When caring and a big gun Beretta 1911 etc. the shoulder holster don’t have to worry about it digging into your stomach or legs or back when sitting especially when getting in and out of a car. Shoulder holster was made for this reason they make it very easy to conceal ,draw, and carry The weight is not a problem either as it is put on your shoulders the same as suspenders

    Suspenders are the answer. A good belt and suspenders make a huge difference. I can carry my glock 17 and 19 with just a belt all day long. But for my birthday I asked my dad for a pair of suspenders.... He laughed but the old generation was onto something. If I carry my 1911 I always wear suspenders, makes it so easy. Love the mustache. Another suggestion, for anybody interested; use a belly band-style holster. Wear it low (just above pant line) and position the gun at appendix, like taco shows. That's how I carry everything, sub-compact to full-size. With bigger guns, you can tuck the muzzle inside your waistband and the belly band will keep it just high enough to prevent it from burying painfully into your body. I wear athletic shorts and joggers very often and nice suits every Sunday. This was the only way I found to give me the flexibility and comfort to carry in any attire.

    • @tacocat9472
      @tacocat9472  2 года назад +2

      I like how belly bands can fit multiple pistols but they don't give enough support. I tried a Brave Response belly band and the weight of my 1911 stretched out the elastic. And my spare mag would slip out. The gun would bounce around and chafe my skin if I try to run. I think belly bands are more for lighter/smaller polymer guns for deep concealment IMHO.

    Due to a medical situation about 10 years ago waist/pocket carry of really anything much less any firearms was a hard NO-GO for a couple years. So I learned to shoulder and off body carry in my man purse. As with any other systems there are pros and cons to these options, I'm not saying that anyone should or shouldn't engage in these carry options just that they are there and with proper planning/training they are perfectly viable options. What's best for you is up to you. Personally I still retain the shoulder/bag carrying practices to this day even though it hasn't been medically required for 8 years and some change. After putting the training and habit building in to get the comfort and concealment levels that these alternative carry practices offer I've found it hard to go back to having a less than ideal compact pistol jammed up in my junk or hip all day every day.... when I could just not and have a full size option with optimum comfort, even if it is slightly slower than an appendix holster.

    I find it funny that the second safety rule of firearms is never point the muzzle at something your not willing to destroy! Yet we are infatuated with pointing the muzzle at our privates to carry appendix carry. I have taught in this country, and abroad, military, Law Enforcement, and private citizens and have never encountered a problem, but for me, I’m not comfortable with it. I carry my1911 in a Jackass shoulder rig, or a pancake from Wilson. Please be safe out there, and train like your very existence depends on it. It truly does. Good job on the video.

    Good ideas. Thank you! I too wear suspenders, by “Hold Up”, that do a great job and are not in the way for me to access my pocket carry. However, even tho the suspenders do a decent job of preventing the one side of my pants hanging much lower, the light weight pocket gun adds enough weight so that by evening my shoulders start to “complain” of the weight. Yes. I know and agree that that is a small price to pay for being armed.

    Good video. I'm a lefty but I carry mine between 8 and 9 o clock in a Urban Carry inside waistband holster. I'm a little guy and yes I carry a full size 1911. In Wisconsin I can carry unconcealed or concealed. I loosen my belt a notch and balance the weight with my magazines and a leatherman Surge multi tool. In summer I use a oversized t-shirt, winter a larger sized sweat shirt. In summer if I have to I will take a size larger flannel with cut off sleeves and put that over my tee. Or roll won up yhat has sleeves ant and tie it around my waist to cover the gun. That is last resort because it makes for a bad draw. If I'm out of State I always look up the State laws and go from there. In my home town I could care less who sees or knows if I have a gun. Unless I'm where it's against the law I have mine with me 24-7. I'd rather have it and NEVER need it than need and not have. I'm always aware of my surroundings and if I go somewhere and feel yhe least bit uncomfortable I change my plans or wait until I can. REMEMBER THE ONLY TRUE WEAPON YOU HAVE IS YOUR BRAIN, EVERYTHING ELSE IS ANCELARY!! Be safe..

    Great video! I've been carrying this way for over a decade. All my pants are two sizes too big. The training belt with a metal band is a must. I use the Y suspenders and carry at 3:00. The belly gets in the way for above the waistband carry, unless I'm doing Thunderwear with a suit for deep concealment. The suspenders make a huge difference in comfort. The only drawback...can't wear a white shirt.

    What has been working for me lately is a second belt above the one holding up my pants. The weight is less bothersome than if the holster is on the belt in my pants. You said you have back issues and yet your carrying your cuffs in the small of your back. Big no no! I know a lot of officers still carry gear between the 4 & 8 o’clock positions, but it you do it needs to be something soft like a soft sided latex glove pouch or similar. Carrying any hard objects in the SOB position is asking for back trouble in the short term, and instant injuries in a vehicle accident.

      I’m not a LEO, just an average joe. So no cuffs, don’t even know if thats legal where i live. But yes, I carried my very first handgun in the SOB a long time ago because I didn’t know. Always learning!

    • @tacocat9472
      @tacocat9472  Год назад +1

      Sitting down and driving is ok for me. I can put the seatbelt behind the grip so I can have free access. But a full size 1911 in AIWB doesn’t work for riding a bicycle. Your mileage may vary depending on body shape/size and your daily activity. Thanks for watching!

      Regardless if i’m carrying a 1911 or a Shield, for me it helps if I loosen my belt before sitting down at a restaruant. I can do this on the spot and no one notices. Or you can just say you have to wash your hands and make your adjustments in the restroom.

      Try Y back suspenders and carry strong side. OWB may be more comfortable. Or if carrying on the belt is out of the question then maybe a shoulder holster. I like shoulder holsters but I can’t use it for matches or classes. Hope this helps👍

    I use a kydex paddle holster for my full size Beretta, but I don't do the whole IWB that a lot of people do and my state is an open carry state. Far as your suspenders go, if you're going to wear then and a jacket, then why not just wear a shoulder holster?

    • @tacocat9472
      @tacocat9472  Год назад

      Nothing against shoulder rigs. For me, suspenders are a lot more bang for my buck and a iwb holster is much easier to take on/off when I have to wear a fall harness at work.

      @@tacocat9472 Honestly for me I have nothing against any style of carry, but for me IWB is just so uncomfortable. Having my pistol of any size pressing up into my side and even worse when I'm driving, and no I will not carry with my pistol pointed down at my nuts like I'm noticing is the newest trend position to carry lol.

    • @tacocat9472
      @tacocat9472  3 года назад +9

      The gun is in front of the important stuff, not on top so the muzzle doesn’t smash down. Sometimes I loosen my belt a bit to accommodate that. Or Spencer Keepers of Keepers Concealment says he puts his full size Beretta 92 in the crease of the groin and thigh.
