Don't think for a second that percussionists have the easiest job in the orchestra! I play drums myself, and I'd be terrified in having to practice this! It's performances like this that help keep classical music alive.
Thanks very much!
Amazing. Beautiful.
Wow. This work is the most refreshingly intelligent, curiously lyrical, quixotically riveting new art I have encountered since I heard Khachaturian's Piano Concerto, with a theremin in the second movement, in 1973. No kidding! In its retention of tonal expectations by new means, it reminds me of "Albion" by Thomas Ades.
Thanks, we’re happy you enjoyed the music!
@@kaleidoscopechamberorchestra I listened again and noticed the sound of water glasses more attentively. Hard to make their wave-forms and timbre work with other instruments, but that may be much of their appeal -- not unlike the theremin. "Otherworldly" is a compliment in my book, unless I lived in Bali, whose obliquely resonant gamelan music is at the core of the culture, not another world's.
Wonderful in every way. Bravo, composer and performers and videographer!
thanks! glad you enjoyed it :)

... lovely composition ...
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing 🎶
beautiful
Thank you! This is excellent!
Thanks very much!
This is fabulous!
Thanks very much!
Love it!!!
Bravo! すばらしい!
thanks!
In my opinion the best parts are 1:10 - 4:00, and 13:25 - 15:25
Excellent! Unusual instrumentation. So how do you notate clink the glass then swirl? :)
thanks for watching! Viet notates a note normally and then writes a squiggly line next to it with the instruction to swirl the glasses.
Measures 53-59 are reproduced on this blurb about the work's commission: blog.dorico.com/2018/10/dorico-showcase-viet-cuongs-percussion-quartet-concerto-renewal/
Up till 2:55 it sounded like it belonged in Minecraft.
According to the Making Notes blog, the parts are engraved with Dorico. I'm curious. What do you players think of the parts (are they laid out beautifully, etc.)?
Pentameron they’re laid out really well, it’s easy to understand what’s going on
