Marisha is the queen of giving an in depth description of what she's doing and then rolling a sub 10.
Right? I don’t understand how the game culture is still stuck rolling after the description of anything. Resolve the whole thing first, then describe it. Tell your DM the goal you want, be told what roll you need, make all the rolls, and inform the RP with it.
Especially persuasive style checks. It’s so much fun to RP rolling a modified 0 or a nat 20.

@@demonzabrak two reasons for that, one so you cant change it to something absolutely insane on a nat 20 because you already stated what you wanted, or on a nat 1 making it seem less important, perhaps first state what ypu want to the dm, then describe what happens after the roll
@@darkestrose9989 I am uncertain we’re on the same page, and I expect that’s my fault, “perhaps state what you want to the dm first” is literally what I said to do before rolling, which I also said should happen before describing the attempt. My example joke was unclear. I blame myself for wanting it to also be a joke.
Another example with less forced humor then.
Say Travis was playing an agile duelist, and wanted to use the environment to move through rough terrain. Instead of saying a long explanation of all the cool flips and slides and whatever he wants to do, he says “I want to use acrobatics to move through this terrain without it slowing me down.” Matt gives back a “DC 17 to succeed, DC 7 to not fall down” and once Travis rolls, he leans into the result for the RP.
It takes player buy-in to work, but if you’ve got it, I have more fun personally, and you might too. It’s also not what I see happening in most games.
That’s all I wanted to convey. If it seems less-fun for your table, don’t do it. Games should be fun, and I don’t see many other people talking about different things to try to have more fun.

Quirks like that get you invested. Last episode when Nott The Brave had an arrow blow through her jaw and neck I was shocked and sympathetic for this precious little Goblin girl. Wasn't even thinking about the fact that it was fiction. Lol

Watching Matt's eyebrows when the players are role-playing amongst themselves is my new hobby.
I like to think that Matt practiced his gnoll sounds in a mirror for a week before this session, and he's so proud of his efforts that he uses his laughing sound at every opportunity to show it off.
Oh he definitely practiced. You don't get that good by not practicing.
The sad thing is, my laugh sounds exactly like that..
Imagine being Marisha, hearing Matt cackling and yelping in front of the bathroom mirror, wondering if it's prep for an encounter or a nervous breakdown.

I'm pretty sure they set these up between episodes, but they're great to watch.
Back in ep. 1, Nott suggests a number of scams to Caleb, including the "copper pot." Then in ep 2, they pull the copper pot scam on Jester, selling her a fake magic pot that's supposed to turn copper into gold, using his temporary transmuter ability to have done the reverse.

I think he had fun being smashy-smashy, but it IS maddening to play someone who can't relay the ideas you have as a player
Their first campaign originated as a one-shot, so Travis, having never played, wanted a simple class that was easy to play and didn't require much understanding of the game. If he had known what their game would become, he might have been more adventurous.
I think it's naive and/or projecting thinking that Travis did NOT have fun with Grog (but who knows, I haven't talked to the guy myself either) :) That being said I can totally see having more fun with a tactical character after having played a barbarian for so long ^^

I love this show
Tbh they're not having any more fun than I've usually had every time I've played RPGs . They only do their accents half the time . (...Which is pretty impressive !) But the key to a good game is a high quality DM who goes with the players when ever possible. (I think I've been lucky in my rpg'ing over the last 30 years or so, as I can only remember one really bad DM ) you know the sort ....they become the angry god DM and don't bother to use good storytelling to direct the players in the right direction when idiocy prevails .....or they refuse to follow carefully laid out plots.

Rewatching C2 knowing all of the charcters’ backstories is amazing to see hidden references or behavior things you only notice looking back. Anyone else rewatching?

They ask Molly sooooo Little questions, the otters always seem too distracted to notice matt and talisien hinting about his mysterious background.

Got through C1 & C2 in about four months... Took a little bit of a break, watched C3 like a normie... and then decided I didn't want to wait and went back to rewatch both again. So many small details!

I love Matt using the title "Starosta". It is from Czech (or Slovak) language and means literally Mayor of a town :-) He even pronounces it correctly, except for a stress which is on the first syllable here in central Europe.
The same thing is with Vecna, it is also Czech word and means Eternal (feminine form). It fits very well :-) It is nice to hear them using Czech words.
We have the same word (Starosta) in polish since it is also a slavic language :)

Jeez the most amazing thing about all of this is Matt’s sound effects and impersonations. Sparrow, gnolls, even the freakin water.
It’s hard to explain how endearing these characters are. I love the comradery between the voice actors. On the one hand it makes me jealous of the incredible group dynamic, and on the other, the group itself is so special that regular folks like us could never experience and play in something so skillful and perfected.
It’s fantastic - like watching a concert live, you get all the mistakes, but that’s part of the charm. The humanity involved.
