Shane, I just realized something about the neck pickup. You mentioned it's a bit dark sounding, but what I get from the crunchy parts of your demo is a tone that, at least to my ears, is the bastard child of post-Moonflower Carlos Santana (think "Flor D'Luna", the live version of "Europa", or "Smooth") and 1990s Gary Moore ("Still Got The Blues", "Story of The Blues", the live version of "Parisienne Walkways" from "Blues Alive").
I really like the value of these newer Epiphone inspired by Gibson guitars. This one is beautiful and sounds good when you dialed back the neck pickup. Great demo and playing, Shane!
Yeah, I'm a lefty, and I recently got the Epiphone 60's standard. Most fun guitar I've played in a long time. The one complaint is the tone pots. They're not for left handed guitars, I have basically no tone range at all. Once I get left handed pots put in I'll have my lifetime guitar.
They're very nice. They look and sound great. It helps if you have guitar setup skills and tools to dial it in just right, and they're worth paying someone who does to do that. They'll play great if the setup is done right. Minor differences like poly vs. nitro finish aren't something you'll see or hear. The biggest difference is what you'll pay for it, and their resale value.
That was the dilemma I faced when buying the Gibson version vs the Epiphone. The quality and playability of both was pretty even however the price difference was huge! The deciding factor was my inability to not pay attention to the name on the headstock!!!!! 🤪🤪 Seriously, these Epiphone guitars are awesome and well worth the money. The guitar is only a tool to get the music out from your head through the guitar and amp. That’s the most important thing to learn and one day I’ll figure that out!!😆 Great intro jam Shane!!! Cheers!🎸🎸🎸🎸✌🏾
I agree, recently wanted to get a Gibson les paul but it just wasn't worth the price increase. I played a 50s standard epiphone in person and it was fantastic, just didn't feel the need to spend more for the gibson. Maybe one day but not today.
They REALLY did a great job improving the Epiphone headstock design! The old headstocks looked like a big footprint! The new design looks closer to Gibson, which is great, while remaining unique.
@juha2031 I guess I'm new to guitars but I never got the headstock thing I guess older fans have? Like in terms of headstock I just stay away from like knockoff or shady brands, not really shape. I really only look at body in terms of pickups and pickup selection, or neck considering I have big palms. Never have I really cared about headstock shape unless it was so outside of the box.
I got one of these in smokehouse burst from Sweetwater music. Choose it over the 50’s Custom and Modern. It had a few rough fret ends, that was an easy fix ,with a lite touch of a file. For the price, you can’t go wrong with this one! Nice job on the review.

Thanks, Shane. Epiphone appear to be living up to the "Inspired by Gibson" motto these days in terms of quality and playability from I see and hear. Thanks also for pointing out the comparison to the HB & Artist LP-types. I have an Artist LP59CSB and your review helps place the Epi in context. Yes, it's over twice the price of the Artist, but I like the attention to quality Epi are putting into such guitars, (aside from that stripey back veneer. Great video. Try lowering the neck pickup on the bass side a little bit, and/or lowering the bass on the amp. Neck pickups are louder because the string vibrates more, wider, than at the bridge. Usually the neck pickup is lower power to begin with. Keep up the good work!
Shane, if the neck pick up is too dark/wooly, try DROPPING the pick up a bit more, and RAISING the screw poles! It will narrow the magnetic focus, and should emphasise more treble freqencies! Good demo dude! \m/
Thanks for the tip! Did what you suggested, and the neck pickup sounds awesome. Took a little tweaking to get it right, but was worth it! Thanks again.
Also, tweaking the Amps EQ , and the pedal eq helped. Slight tweaking mind you,, but you still have to find the sweet spot for all your guitars, the amp, and your fx pedals without having to change settings between guitars. Still, thanks for the tip about the neck pickup. Worked great !!

I think my non-Gibson/Epi Goldtop is a 60s style. It has cream binding and the knobs were darkened, too, as if they were supposed to look old and smoke stained. It does have the vintage looking pearloid Keystone buttons and a nice fat neck. The back and neck are done in a very, very thin matte clear coat of some kind. It is lovely! I'm actually really glad it didn't come with a pickguard installed so there's no holes anywhere nor the dot on the gold face from the mounting screw.
60’s guitars should have the “Reflector Top” control knobs and Grover “kidney” tuners! 50’s style have the “Bell” knobs and plastic “keystone” tuners! Sounds like yours is based on a 50’s!
Great job. Ordered one. I like the neck pickup. Especially dampened with pick hand thru fender Amp, but like the Casino I have, play the tone on 7 for bridge, and volume on 7 for neck. Thanks.
I was faced with keep my Harley and buy an Epiphone or sell my Harley and buy a Gibson and a Honda . I kept my Harley and love my Epiphone just as much as my Harley .
Cool ...neck pickup seems to be a long time problem for Epiphone, got one here took a while winding the neck pickup back and getting the string height set once done was only a matter of setting the bridge, string wrapping can help, also give the guitar a great tone..with you on this one it's the 50s for me !
You could change the wiring on the 60's Epiphone to 50's wiring like the 50's Epiphone to get more chime from the neck pickup. It would take moving the capacitor connection but no new components.
Hey Shane nice job on the demo. I believe that the pickups are the same in the sixties and fifties models. I have heard adjusting the pole positions on the probucker pickups can greatly improve the tone.. Does anyone on here have experience with adjusting the pole pieces to improve the tone?
Hi Shane, love your reviews and your videos for the Epiphone LP Standard 50s and 60s have got me seriously considering one of these as my first LP. Question for you. Since each model is equipped with ProBuckers, do you think the better performance you hear in the neck pickup of the 50s has to do with wiring? The specs for the 50s say it’s 50s era wiring and I didn’t see anything related to wiring style for the 60s model. Thanks!
Weirdly I get motion sick by looking at you playing as a lefty and then I remember I also was a lefty guitar player, but my first guitar was a right-handed guitar so I had to change my natural playing into right-handed playing :D
I'm hearing a substantial sizzle. Not unpleasant in any way. Just curious if that's the amp or if its the pickups. Sounds fantastic! Your playing helps as well Shane. Great stuff!
For some reason I much prefer the 50's sound. Do you have a personal opinion on which one is your favorite? I am 1.73cm and worried if the neck is going to be too huge on the 50's for me
50s have Probucker 1&2, 60s has 2&3, basically 7K, 8K and 9K respectively. PBs are reportedly alnico 2s The 1&2 PB set are far rarer than the 2&3 set Some models in the past, both LP and SG, were built with the Alnico Classic Pro (7.5K alnico 5) in the neck and the Probucker 3 in the bridge. ACPros are a bit Pearly Gatesy/Slash-ish with alnico 2 magnets swapped in, thats what I have in my 335 Chibson, with the 3 push pull pot Epi quick connect harness, 2 universes better than the original super-cheapo pickups I need to try A2s in the PBs, to confirm ir deny they are in fact A2 from the factory ACPro have evenly wound bobbins and are Korean made copies of the Gibson 57 and 57+, Probuckers have unevenly wound bobbins and are copies of Burstbuckers. The Gibson 61R/61T set with swapped in A2 magnets are absolute magic. None of the potential boom or hash like the PB 2&3
Hi, Shane! One question, in case you know: I have this exact same guitar and I need to change a tone knob that has a crack. Do you know if the pots are imperial inch or metric type? Thanks!
Shane will you be taking a look at some of new and unique Squire 2021 line up? I am especially interested in the Squier Contemporary Stratocaster Special Sky Burst Metallic. Oh and your next live pod cast... Cheers
Hey Shane nice Video man_greetings from Austria. One Question: I bought the Dsl40cr same as yours, but there is a lot of fizz and that only goes away when i crank the amp. But i want to play in my apartment with a good distortion quiet without that fizzyness. WOUld it help to change the Vtype speaker to an Eminence texas heat or creamback like u have done it? Appreciate very much if you or someone knows...
@@seanverso6712 Look, you really can't go wrong with SD. But I've found some others I'm pretty fond of from GFS and my new cheap favourites are artistguitars bullbuckers.
Any chance you could do a side by side comparison between the 50's and 60's models? I'd love to listen to you test them together in the same video, so we kind of hear the tonal differences between both guitars, and check the pick up differences.
Shane I've been eyeing the same guitar at my local music shop for a while, but then thought I've got enough LP's - go for something else. So dropped money on a Gretsch G5222. Nice guitar to play but the electronics leave a lot to be desired. In respect to Artistguitars here in Oz, they're still half the price of an Epi again. So does the Epi play $500 better than the Artist? Yeah I don't know. But if I didn't have so many LPs already, I don't think your could go wrong with either.
I’m in the UK and have the Artist LP59 with the Bullbucker pickups, fantastic guitar and if you file a V in the headstock and paint with nail varnish you get the Gibby open book! However, I will admit that although locking, the tuners could be more precise and same with the bridge! I plan to upgrade both in due course with something like Grovers and Gotoh respectively! But plays and sounds amazing!
@@ces69 Yeah they're pretty good once you work the kinks out. Although the newer ones are apparently great out of the box. I got one that needed a bit of work to get it playing right, but I did get it for an awesome price to compensate. A little TLC and it plays pretty good now. I didn't find anything wrong with the tuners, just have to make sure you stretch your strings properly and the nut slots are filed correctly. And yes that headstocks pretty close - I like it. Agreed - The bridge is a shocker and replacing it with anything is better than what's supplied. I stripped the screws and broke one when adjusting the intonation. The little rollers fall out too if you don't have a string on it. I just bought another cheapie off ebay and it was fine. The other one went straight in the bin.
@@peterschmidt9942 Mine is the current model as far as I know, got it this summer for only £199 delivered! The tuners do hold tune, it’s just the ratio doesn’t seem precise enough so that it can take a bit of time to tune accurately! Would benefit from some better ones! My bridge has worked reasonably well so far but does feel a bit cheap with sharp edges. I think good quality bridges are important on any guitar to transfer the tone, so like yours it’s destined for the bin in due course! I’ve done a few cosmetic up grades to mine, I’ve fitted a more authentic trussrod cover and “poker chip” and replaced the selector switch nut with the correct “knurled” type! I’ve also added a “Les Paul model” logo to the headstock after putting in a “V” and pick guard as I think Les Paul’s look naked without one, and “pointers” to the control knobs! (All from eBay) It is fitted with “mini pots” which although working well will probably be replaced with some quality CTS ones and switchcraft socket and switch at some point! Overall it punches well above its weight and love it so the upgrades are viable!
@@ces69 Exactly. When you see the price of the Epi's, throwing in a hundred dollars or so isn't a big ask for the Artistguitars. If you pay little extra on EBay you can get some pretty decent tuners still for cheap. I used to buy a lot of stuff off Ebay for guitars until COVID started and now they've just gone silly with prices. If the AUD to USD keeps going the way it is, it will be back to 1:1 and I can start buying from the US again.
@@peterschmidt9942 I honestly don’t know how they do it for the price. I own a couple of Epi’s and honestly the tone of the Artist is closer to a Gibson (owned a few over the years) than an Epi! And like you say, you could spend a bit on hardware and still have a guitar that comes in way below the price of an Epi! I think Obsidian wire is an Aussie company, they are doing a solderless drop in pot upgrade with the “push pulls”! A lot of people will say “why spend money on a cheap guitar, you won’t get it back?” Which is true but the way I look at it is I don’t plan on selling it and to get something comparable would cost me significantly more! If I’ve got a Les Paul that looks, sounds and plays like a Les Paul, why change it for one that costs many times more for one with a different name on the headstock! Have you seen, Artist have a Goldtop with P90’s, due to be available in the UK in the summer? I’m going to have to get me some of that! Love P90’s!
I have already an epiphone lespaul standard pro 2017 with probucker 2 and 3 in it, and i have change all the electronic for a Tone Man '60 re-wired kit. This new epiphone is realy tamptating, and i would like to know if it is realy superior than mine before to drop money on a '50 model. Thank's David
Price is not an issue for me, but tone and value are, I could buy a Gibson, the best LP I have tried in years was a Tokai, so I bought it, same with Fender, I had a really nice Fender Esprit for Years, until a Collector offered me good money for it, again, the Tokai is better as is my Vintage SG and a few others I own, I have a good Guitar tech, thats half the battle, in making any guitar sing. Acoustics, yes, you get what you pay for, to a point, Sire make fantastic for the money, but the high end Acoustic stuff, much more value than any electric Guitar with a Gibson sticker.
i just looked at sky music and wow man you guys are getting taken to the cleaners on prices i live in canada and your dollar to yours is only about 20.00 difference but most of your prices are 2 to 3 times more then here in canada thats mental ,, nice guitar to by the way
With any Epiphone guitar is hit or miss. The most important aspect is the feel, how is the neck, frets, any fret sprouts, is the fingerboard smooth or sandpaper, etc ...
I think the Epiphone 60's Standard Is better than the Epiphone Classic, not In terms of classic tone, the finish of the Honey Burst Classic Is great too, but the finishe's of the 50's and 60's are more Gibson to me or closer to It. I find bedside's the Pro Bucker's being worse than Alinco Classic's for me, The 50's and 60's has more louder resonating tone, based on how It seem's In the RUclips video's, would love to test one too In person, seeing the finish and the same 60's neck standard to me Is better, all would need Is maybe a Seymour 59 full neck and a DiMarzio III Full Bridge. I think If you had a Marshal or Fender Valve Tube Reverb, with a vintage Boss OD-1 Pedal It would be lovely with the Bridge Pick Up and Pedal and Clean's. But seeing you can only get Gibson Cover Plate's, or otherwise cheap alternative's, Unless you get the Epiphone with stock Epiphone default pick up cover's, That they were not covered on the Classic model, I would fancy the bridge open, but the cover for the warmth on the neck. ( *Realizing ) now that the resonating loudness, was the clean EBONY, not Indian Laurel or Rosewood Neck wood Find the Prophecy Is Interesting, and the fisherman cover's and finish Is unique, But I find not the greatest tone to me I find these 3 are so great guitar's though, not sure about prior early 2000's model's, but the 1996 Epiphone Japanese Custom Les Paul, seems as good as the Gibson version mid range, around the studio or custom gibson quality, maybe I have seen the Joe Bassama, Gibson vs Epiphone, barely any difference at all with the whole guitar, beyond the build value, It's not even enough to me to say It's worth the drastic difference, having the money or not, Though despite a 50's Chunk vs 60's Slim Neck, To me It's the best looking traditional and modern duo Epiphone, I wanted It for the visual and the mid pick up extra
I have a 2016 50's tribute and honestly its hands down the best playing guitar I have, including my 2019 studio with bound fretboard, the tributes are fantastic for the money
I have a Harley Benton 400. I changed the magnets in the pick up that sounds good but I was thinking getting epiphone Is it that much better I also thinking about getting a DSL 20 head or should I get the origin 50
From Leo: Nice enough guitar if a person likes the Les Paul design. I get a kick out of "60's" models. By 1961 almost no one bought them and you did not see new ones in Gibson dealers again until late 1969 and 1970. 335's and SG's and a variety of the jazz boxes were what was on display. There was a lot more customer traffic at the Fender dealers then.
@@barbmelle3136 He already knows, as although predominantly known as a Strat player it’s not widely known but Gilmore used a LesPaul on among other things the solo on Another Brick in the wall as well as on the recordings of The Wall, A Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell albums and live tours as well as his solo album On an Island! Google it!
During this time they were being used to great effect by the likes of Peter Green, Paul Kossoff, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Mike Bloomfield and even Keith Richards!

Weird question but which chair do you use and is it comfortable? I feel like as guitar players, we're always looking for comfortable office chairs that don't impede your ability to play.
I love this chair it's really good because I can move it easily and it's really comfortable. I purchased one that was rated at 8+ hours daily use - meaning the foam is going to last a long time and has great support.
THANK YOU EPIPHONE! For stepping up the game on the lefties this year. I want em all! (Ps: a clear casino and a wilshire or coronet would look good in the lineup. Just sayin).
@@francvernet307 everything in a guitar is important to me, but for other folks that might not be the case. But if there are other people that want to see the actual back of the guitar it could be useful to know about this. I am sure it has proper mahogany in there
Yeah, it does. All the Gibbo Epis have it in the transparent finishes! I had an EB3 in Heritage Cherry, & it had the stripy mahogany veneer on the back also! Looked ok! Just covers UP the multiple pieces of wood that make up the bodies!
Hi Shane. FTR, the high pass filter you mentioned toward the end of the vid (about overcoming the woollyness of the neck pup), is in fact a bass-mid cut. By reducing bass-mids, the natural top-end from a pup passes through the (high-pass capacitor filter), when connected to an amp. Cool playing. Regards.
That bridge pickup sounds fantastic!!!
Well, it sounds like a les paul guitar
I was thinking the exact same thing!
GREAT sounding guitar. Regardless of brand, that bridge pickup sounds like a real LP.
Great job. Ordered one. I like the neck pickup. Especially dampened with pick hand thru fender Amp, but like the Casino I have, play the tone on 7 for bridge, and volume on 7 for neck. Thanks.
I agree with your opinion on the neck pick up. That’s how I feel about mine.
They’ve nailed it with the headstock shape
I was faced with keep my Harley and buy an Epiphone or sell my Harley and buy a Gibson and a Honda . I kept my Harley and love my Epiphone just as much as my Harley .
Yes those harley bentons are great cheap guitars, as good as these epis.
Love that tone.
This is one of the best videos reviewing this guitar that I have seen, and I've been watching quite a few😊
Epiphone has really crafted some wonderful instruments in the last couple of years. I love my Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Plus Top.
How would you compare to the 60s standard? I am looking into getting a plustop but these newer 50s/60s standards look great too.
@@MrAndMrsFree Never played one but the neck on mine was more 60's style than say '59. I don't think you can go wrong with either one.
Like your tone and playing….!
Keep up the good work please….👍
Cool ...neck pickup seems to be a long time problem for Epiphone, got one here took a while winding the neck pickup back and getting the string height set once done was only a matter of setting the bridge, string wrapping can help, also give the guitar a great tone..with you on this one it's the 50s for me !
I love your tone. Pretty much on any guitar you play. I would love to know the amp and effects setting you use.
You could change the wiring on the 60's Epiphone to 50's wiring like the 50's Epiphone to get more chime from the neck pickup. It would take moving the capacitor connection but no new components.
I bought the 60s dark honey burst quilt top I love it !
I just bought that guitar to and I really like it .
Thanks for the input, blues rock Jason Statham!
Thanks!
The standard 50s uses the epi probucker 1 and 2 rather than the probucker 2 and 3 config that the 60s uses
Weirdly I get motion sick by looking at you playing as a lefty and then I remember I also was a lefty guitar player, but my first guitar was a right-handed guitar so I had to change my natural playing into right-handed playing :D
What a beautiful guitar, !!!!!
I'm hearing a substantial sizzle. Not unpleasant in any way. Just curious if that's the amp or if its the pickups. Sounds fantastic! Your playing helps as well Shane. Great stuff!
Oh man. Yeah that sounds really good
what marshall amp is that?
amazing review bro!!
this guitar is just beyond amazing for the price!
thanks for the video- appreciate it. Any comments about tuning problems with this specific model? Thanks again - Mauro
Thank 💜 You LOVE
Great playing as usual!!
Just have a question about the 60s and the 50s neck that you reviewed, Which neck feels better in your opinion?
Mahalo
They are both nice but the 50s is fatter and I prefer that one. Most people like a 60s neck more, unless they are more partial to a much fatter neck.
For some reason I much prefer the 50's sound. Do you have a personal opinion on which one is your favorite?
I am 1.73cm and worried if the neck is going to be too huge on the 50's for me
You can buy the 60s one and do the simple 50s wiring mod, no new parts just 10 minutes soldering, the capacitor is moved and not much else
50s have Probucker 1&2, 60s has 2&3, basically 7K, 8K and 9K respectively. PBs are reportedly alnico 2s
The 1&2 PB set are far rarer than the 2&3 set
Some models in the past, both LP and SG, were built with the Alnico Classic Pro (7.5K alnico 5) in the neck and the Probucker 3 in the bridge.
ACPros are a bit Pearly Gatesy/Slash-ish with alnico 2 magnets swapped in, thats what I have in my 335 Chibson, with the 3 push pull pot Epi quick connect harness, 2 universes better than the original super-cheapo pickups
I need to try A2s in the PBs, to confirm ir deny they are in fact A2 from the factory
ACPro have evenly wound bobbins and are Korean made copies of the Gibson 57 and 57+, Probuckers have unevenly wound bobbins and are copies of Burstbuckers.
The Gibson 61R/61T set with swapped in A2 magnets are absolute magic. None of the potential boom or hash like the PB 2&3
It took me 6 minutes to realise this was an epiphone damn thats a nice guitar
Sounds like a dream as it should
Cheers
Yeeeeeees, I'm absolutely gonna hafta have the contemporary jag in that color.
Is there any difference between this and the limited edition version that Guitar Center has on sale right now other than the color?
Sounds great! .. from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Thanks for an honest review. Probuckers definitely sound better than the Alnico Classic Pros IMO.
I’m with you. I just sold my classic worn and got a custom pro, and the pro buckers are much more my speed.
How do the tuners compare to the 50s standard offering?. I've had grovers. I know they're pretty great. Cheers
Hi, is that Iced Tea colour or Bourbon Burst, please?
Do these come swt up ok out the box? Thanks
I think it's weird that they discontinued coil splitting feature after Standard pro model.
The seymour ducans jazz and 59 humbuckers are great in it
Pretty sure jazz on bridge and 59 for neck
Mate you're not wrong. My best investment was a SD '59 that's been in so many guitars for over the years. Definitely got my money's worth!
Seymour ducans are the best
@@seanverso6712 Look, you really can't go wrong with SD. But I've found some others I'm pretty fond of from GFS and my new cheap favourites are artistguitars bullbuckers.
@@peterschmidt9942 Bullbuckers are unbelievably good regardless of price!
The fact they are cheap is a bonus!
Amazing pickups!
Preciosa guitarra y magnifico sonido..
un saludo 🙌
(All from eBay)
It is fitted with “mini pots” which although working well will probably be replaced with some quality CTS ones and switchcraft socket and switch at some point!
Thank's
David
Take yours along to your local Epiphone dealer and compare the two!
Simple!
@Mark Seymour depends on who doing it, yeah, there is a few, who think they know what they are doing!
Loovely. Any chance of getting epi james jared nichols signature guitar?
i just looked at sky music and wow man you guys are getting taken to the cleaners on prices i live in canada and your dollar to yours is only about 20.00 difference but most of your prices are 2 to 3 times more then here in canada thats mental ,, nice guitar to by the way
With any Epiphone guitar is hit or miss.
( *Realizing ) now that the resonating loudness, was the clean EBONY, not Indian Laurel or Rosewood Neck wood
Find the Prophecy Is Interesting, and the fisherman cover's and finish Is unique, But I find not the greatest tone to me
I find these 3 are so great guitar's though, not sure about prior early 2000's model's, but the 1996 Epiphone Japanese Custom Les Paul, seems as good as the Gibson version mid range, around the studio or custom gibson quality, maybe
I have seen the Joe Bassama, Gibson vs Epiphone, barely any difference at all with the whole guitar, beyond the build value, It's not even enough to me to say It's worth the drastic difference, having the money or not, Though despite a 50's Chunk vs 60's Slim Neck, To me It's the best looking traditional and modern duo Epiphone, I wanted It for the visual and the mid pick up extra
I would love to know how this compares with the new 59's.
Hi Shane is there even a lefty version of the new Epi 335? I would love to see you reviewing it.
There is, cherry Red too!
Oh, thats the 339 I was trying out the other day, I assume the 335 is also on lefty,no reason not to.
Just ordered one in black. Are they same pickups as in 50s model? Mexico is listening. 😁
Shane, in your opinion, is it worth replacing the ProBuckers by Seymour Duncan ones?
See more bin cans, heck no, get some di Marzios😂 if you got too much money on your hands.
What riff is that at 6:18?
What finish is that? Iced tea? Thanks
Oh, man. That is just beautiful. Do these Epiphone LP's have a thick polly finish on them? Like the Fender Squiers do?
Yep.
Thought about checking out Gibson Les Paul Tributes? Curious how they stand up against other chambered and solid guitars.
I have a 2016 50's tribute and honestly its hands down the best playing guitar I have, including my 2019 studio with bound fretboard, the tributes are fantastic for the money
The tributes not issued by epiphone anymore 😢
Maybe that's what you mean by wooly. Just notice it seems to be on the neck pickup
I have a Harley Benton 400. I changed the magnets in the pick up that sounds good but I was thinking getting epiphone Is it that much better I also thinking about getting a DSL 20 head or should I get the origin 50
Better but hb 500 is as good.
@@johncollins5552 I bought an agile Les Paul in left-handed sounds good silver burst not my favorite color, but it’s growing on me
From Leo: Nice enough guitar if a person likes the Les Paul design. I get a kick out of "60's" models. By 1961 almost no one bought them and you did not see new ones in Gibson dealers again until late 1969 and 1970. 335's and SG's and a variety of the jazz boxes were what was on display. There was a lot more customer traffic at the Fender dealers then.
But you can’t beat a Les Paul singing through a cranked amp!
No Fender comes close!
@@ces69 I am happy for you to enjoy what you like, but we will have to let David Gilmour in on the secret.
What style of playing is this? Or is it just improv? I started a month ago but I strive to jam out this kind of stuff!!!
I’d say it’s a funk/rock mix.
Hopefully they upped their quality control the one I purchased in 2020 took it out of the box took a strum and the headstock broke clean off I am so done with epiphone
Liar
@@frankhall7005 No I have the bill from the guy who fixed it but thanks for your comment hopefully somebody from epiphone will read this and finally get back to me as I contacted their customer service and got zero response via email or phone

The neck pickup doesn't have as much chime as the neck pickup on the 50's model. Nevertheless, it sounds good to me especially for the price.
The best guitar chair is a drum throne
Does it have a maple cap?
THANK YOU EPIPHONE! For stepping up the game on the lefties this year. I want em all! (Ps: a clear casino and a wilshire or coronet would look good in the lineup. Just sayin).
Which guitar is better, this one or the epiphone les paul 59?
Does it have a veneer on the back? I don’t like that look at all... great video as usual Shane
I don’t disagree but the back is against your body anyway, so I can live with it 😉
@@francvernet307 Me too. I think it's fine. 🎸
The veneer on the back is to hide the fact that although mahogany, it is multiple pieces glued together, not just a one or two piece body!
Are you playing through a JVM combo ?
It’s the DSL40 combo
Regards. (the artist guitar is not as good as you say it is - I’m disappointed, I bought one based on a recommendation).
