You're honestly the only celebrity I know of that is as down-to-earth and relatable as you are. For what it's worth, I loved the trailer, but I enjoyed your trailer comments video far more because of the chill vibe and interesting facts. In the ocean of modern sensationalism, your RUclips channel is a wonderful island of sensibility and honesty. Thanks for all your hard work!
Agreed!! This video makes me 1000x times look more forward to Shazam Fury of the Gods than any trailer could because I know there's an actual person with a heart of gold directing it and an amazing partner supporting him (and perhaps offering creative input wherever needed!!)
He did an interview with Ryan conolloy a whoile back and he regreted not hacing his wife and a producer for anabelle Creation (Ithink or it was for Light's out. I can;t remember). Lotta is also an actress with 19 acting credits to her name along with a few more for producing, writting and so on so forth.
As a fellow introvert, I felt EXHAUSTED just watching you go through all that. It's amazing how Zachary Levi was still bopping along while you looked like you would be fine just sitting in a lounge chair somewhere for a bit.
Levi's just built that way. That's why he's able to play characters that are usually energetic, but empathetic man children like he did in Chuck and now in Shazam and sustain that energy for 12 hour day shoots. He feeds off of the whole thing. The chaos energizes him whereas it drains someone like David. Interesting how people can be so different. That said, I'm sure Levi has his moments of exhaustion. Everybody does at some point.
Its called cocaine, its as easily accessible as tea or coffee in LA my friend. It gives like a strong caffeine kick, nothing more nothing less, strong though.
"how I would be perceived" Well for what it's worth to you, David, and anyone reading this comment, I met David and his wife Lotta at Comic Con and my 'perception' of them is excellent. They were both really kind, took a picture and briefly chatted with me before they got on with their evening. I think they handled the event like total professionals and I'm really looking forward to all the upcoming projects David and Lotta will be releasing next! 😁
Can't wait to hear the making-of stories for Shazam 2. That bag solution for the mall scene in the first one is implanted in my brain as peak film-making resourcefulness. Also that IMDB bag was hilariously whelming.
Yeah that video sticks in my head every time I see anything about Shazam, I'd love to see more videos of him talking about what challenges and problem solving he had to do during this film. Just like the cape not being CGI'd in for the trailer.
I've always found Americans way more naturally outgoing and energetic than what I'm used to across the pond, which is something I admire about them. What helped a lot for me at least was taking theater improv classes with actors-- once you start doing that and you perform for audiences, you get used to it in everyday situations as well. It also helps you write for actors as well.
Yes! I was introduced to improv theater by my high school drama teacher and I *absolutely* consider it a real life skill that helps me on a daily basis. When you're an introvert, every conversation can start to feel like a performance after a while, so knowing how to perform well is super useful.
As an American, I've always found my fellow Americans to be generally real loudmouths, and I've always gravitated towards a more British mindset...I guess it's a case of that whole "grass is always greener over there" syndrome.
Kind of shocking to see how much of an assembly line this all is. And huge respect to everyone involved always on their A Game and how fast everything comes out
Though you admittedly often look like the least hyper person on stage, the moment you open your mouth to speak the passion and pride in your work is beyond obvious. I love that you can make these videos and talk more about things that went wrong with the filmmaking process and how you overcame them cause your pride in the problem solving shows even more that you think you made a good product than if you tried to say it was perfect from the very beginning. Also thank you so much for being so open about your experience and really living as an example of how you can be nervous, anxious, exhausted and overwhelmed as a professional artist but you can't let it stop you from being excited to go do something new and incredible. I think a lot of us need to see someone like you making it while being honest about what you still deal with as an introvert so we know it's possible for us too, it's okay to feel that way but it doesn't make all our fears and anxieties so true that we should never try.
That's my IGN mic at 6:44! I interviewed you that day on the Shazam carpet and just want to say again, thanks for your time. I got to thank Lotta that day, but your videos and tutorials were a huge inspiration to my fiancee and I as we were making our new horror short in lockdown, so please keep them up whenever you get some time! It was so nice to see you and Lotta again, sat next to you two at the Bad Times premiere (I'm the Conjuring timeline guy). Best of luck with Shazam: Fury of the Gods, can't wait to see it. Also, that b-roll of you giving a thumbs up looks like your approving of my Lucy Liu interview which, y'know, thanks.
As an introvert, it's times like these that we really appreciate the extroverts like Zachary Levi just absorbing all the attention and keeping the heat off of you. I've never heard a director talk so honestly like this. This is amazing.
Thank you David. As a filmmaker who has been battling depression for 30+ years while trying to maintain some semblance of sanity in the film industry, your videos about your experiences really give me the chance to not feel so invisible. You are most appreciated and loved and respected and you are so generous with your time to produce these. Thank you.
David, I'm a Brazilian screenwriter and you inspired me to direct my own projects. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences on youtube. I hope to one day achieve your success。All the best to you.
Vlogging the whole thing must've only made the experience more draining. Super cool of David and Lotta to go out of their way to bring us along for the ride. Even just the candid BTS footage was really insightful.
This gave me a new look as to what you and other directors have to go through on such monsterous projects. I am very thankful for this video. For what it's worth, the trailer was awesome. I am very excited for this film!
Thanks so much for sharing this, David. I also have a very limited social battery so it's nice to see how others handle that in extreme situations. Also, Lotta looked fabulous!
I’m an introverted filmmaker myself and it’s great to see this behind the scenes of what it’s really like to do press. Your level of honesty is amazing to see and what is missing in the industry. I will be there for every film you make.
I found this guy in my college textbook when I was in film school. Funny thing is - he didn't even know he was in it and it was written by two film historians which he loved. It was great to be the messenger but I'm sure he was so happy to learn he literally made it into the history books. What a humble legend Edit: Damn what a vague comment - "found this guy in a textbook written by two historians" lol 😂 hold on, I'm going to need to get some details in here
David!!! Shazam 2 trailer you brought the hype again just like Shazam. WB is lucky to be working with a talented director. Hey honestly the fans love you man!!! We're not expecting you to be Zach or JDG. You can stay a full introvert and we'll still enjoy the shit out of you cux you are awesome!!! You're in the right business!!! We actually need more people like you that's down to earth. It's crazy alot of us see the glory and the praise but never behind the scenes. I guess that's why it's called ShowBUSINESS right? Looking forward to your long career and more upcoming projects. Keep grinding brother don't stop.
Remember seeing Myggan on TV back in the day and now you're getting hugs from legendary Lucy Liu backstage at comic Con. So cool!!! Looking forward to seeing Shazam 2 soon!
I love behind the scenes looks like this. It's a side you never really get to see, especially from a fellow introvert. That IMDB bag was just ridiculous though.
As an introvert myself, I feel you, bro. Regards to Lotta - she is actually a really great operator, she got an amazing eye for composition in real time👌🏻. It is actually very hard to do, everyone who tried it know that it is not a very relaxed experience. Also - thanks a lot for sharing! It was really, REALLY interesting to feel what all this press conferences are all about for a filmmaker. 👍 Have a nice day! ☀️
I got to work H the day you came by. As a fellow introvert it was really great to see this, captures the feel accurately. I don’t know why I keep coming back when it’s so draining but I also get to sit in the backstage area as nobody is there to see me. Watching all the celebrities dance around and be silly, it’s a completely different con backstage.
Wow, to hear you have feelings like "I suck as a director, I am a boring person, I am in the wrong business for the kind of person I am" is quite shocking and reassuring at the same time! If you have these feelings despite being a phenomenal filmmaker, I think it is okay for me and really anyone else to feel this way too. And THAT Imdb bag was the bag of most random shit I've ever seen in my life lol.
David, I think this is the first vlog ever on your channel! Or I may be wrong? I love it! Thank you so much for taking us on a press tour with you. Myself a huge introvert, I identify with how you feel about this 200%. So good to get to follow you and Lotta along for the fun ride! And the BTS thoughts about it all.
David your so open and honest about your experiences when you do something but it also makes you a great filmmaker and storyteller telling these raw stories and making the coolest characters pop on screen as a 19 year old aspiring filmmaker I really look up to you especially cause you have knowledge about all sides of filmmaking not just directing and your a Blackmagic fanboy like myself I have a mate who tells me you have to get a full frame camera but the fact is a camera doesn't matter if you don't have a story worth telling. Btw Shazam is my favorite dc film and very much looking forward to the sequel. Congrats on everything man and keep being you!😃
I'm not an introvert and I often speak in front of a (modest) crowd in my job - and watching this gave me a near panic attack. And then getting instant feedback from thousands of people online? I would be an absolute mess before, during and after. You are a superhero David. Looking forward to when you can tell us the really interesting stuff about making the movie. Great to see Lotta there as well, you two are lucky to have each other.
Thanks man! I've never felt seeing a hollywood filmmaker so relatable to us. This opens up a lot of possibilites, that if you can make it out there, we can too! Thanks for sharing your story, means a lot
I think most of thr top people in Hollywood are introverts lol. Rob pattinson, Andrew garfield, Nolan, Fincher,Johnny depp, etc. And read thr comments.. maybe Hollywood press don't like introverts but the net shows they are thr most loved.
This video was extremely relatable...aside from the being a filmmaker at ComiCon part. I often wonder how fine the line is between being an introvert and having anxiety/depression. During the pandemic, I was diagnosed with social anxiety, which in retrospect, explained SO much about the everything about me while growing up. However, I don't think I'm naturally an introvert. It fully depends on where I am and who I'm with. In the right setting with the right people I can be VERY outgoing...I imagine I could comfortably ride Zachary Levi's confidence and energy into the sunset. Anyway, it's bee a lot of fun watching go on this journey the last few years. Stay strong. Have fun. Make more movies, please.
I really appreciate that that IMDB bag was just "hey, we had a bunch of stuff laying around, shove in enough that at least one person will be happy with one thing."
This was so insightful and such a fresh look at the Comic Con experience. I’ve been going for nearly 20 years and this type of experience as a creator has always been a bit of a mystery. You’ve been so great at just rolling with it for Shazam! and Shazam!: Fury of the Gods! Really looking forward to the film.
Not a diehard horror fan, and no particular interest in DC, but I'll go and see every @ponysmasher film because it's good to see something you know is made by such and amazing and adorable human being. PS as soon as Lotte came on screen in this I was searching the background for something supernatural and terrifying that was about to happen to her.
Dude, same here! When we released our first feature and had to do the press and all that, it totally sucked ass. As a DP who's even less outgoing than, say, a director, I was like come on, it's 2022, can we come up with something less of a drag? Can we just, idk, hang out with the press, have a few drinks and then do the same with the fans? Being so far away from the actual consumer is not the way we supposed to treat people, I thought. Still, thanks for the insides, love the energy (or the lack of it), very sincere stuff!
Why this video hasn't blown up yet....this is the greatest comic-con video ever.... A great insight into the point of view a director visiting comic-con or as for any celebrity for the matter of fact. 😍🙏🏻😍🙏🏻😍
The fact that you share these experiences from your particular perspective is so inspiring to me, I really appreciate your sincerity and good vibes. I wish you all the best and success in everything you set out to do!
Don't let these cons beat you up, you're one of the best real down to earth Directors! You've made it so far and now you're at the top, I can't wait for more of your movies and well....just keep it going I adore your content.
David thank you so...so much for this video! You are the ONLY Hollywood director that isnt afraid to show your fans that you are just a regular guy. And thank you for bringing us along on your journey as an introverted filmmaker who's now a big time Hollywood director. I loved hearing your thoughts on how you dealt with all the press and panels. I look forward to seeing more of your journey! #ponysmasherfan
I want to say thank you David for sharing your thoughts and experiences on all this. You being able to be 100% honest about all this is really refreshing. We hear often of how great and awesome these interviews and tours are, but you sharing the actual process is a reason me and everyone else loves you. You are honest with us. You aren't afraid to tell how you feel, about how scared and exhausted you can be from all this but still being optimistic about what you worked too hard for to achieve. I want to say thank you David, you're a big hero to me as you are always truthful to us and helping people navigate the crazy world of filmmaking. Thank you
As a fellow introvert, who'll probably never attended SDCC, let alone be a guest there, I really appreciate this insight. It's fascinating to get a glimpse behind the curtain.
I've had a lot of friends like this - my family still doesn't understand how so many of my friends just want to hangout at their place privately, instead of going somewhere fun (social) or different, but not everyone gets energy from others - some get it when they're more alone, like A LOT of animators and creators I follow. *Thanks for being one of them Mr. Sandberg, don't change unless you want to.*
Oh man, I don't know how you and Lotta do it! Having to endure the crazyness of L.A. and Hollywood events as a Swedish introvert must be a nightmare. I would end blasting Ænema on my headphones between interviews to try to purge it out.
This is honestly one of the dopest things I've ever watched on RUclips, not because of the celebrity aspect of it but because of the contrast of being an introvert in an extroverted industry.
You have a way to put your work into words that make it simple to understand how tough the actual job is and your honesty about mistakes make it endearing learning process
While I always love the behind the scenes insight you always put in your work, I truly appreciate the transparency of your thoughts as a introvert creator. Knowing others share the drain and imposter syndrome is comforting.
I met you at the first IMAX screening for Shazam and it was incredible to get to talk to you and Zach one-on-one for a couple minutes. I really look up to your career and hope to get to work along side you one day. Great video!
I totally feel You. I used to be more extrovert alas it's gone and now days I'm introvert and the drained feeling is really real. Sometimes it's easier to recover other days ...
Thank you!! For those of us who are introverts, we understand your exhaustion. 😂 Shazam⚡️ is the best DC film ever! And from the trailer, Shazam: Fury of the gods will be even more awesome. I can hardly wait for December. I love the stories you tell under your direction. So good. Love your honesty. Love what you see through the camera lens because it shows up on the screen. I don’t know if that makes sense but it’s a complement to your skill and talent as a film maker. Love you and Lotta!!
I cannot express how much I love you and Lotta and I love what you two do. As an introvert myself, I understand the struggle. Thank you for sharing your this and for being amazing!!!
David you are awesome both for how you grew your carrer but also for staying on RUclips and doing all those commentaries on different aspects of filmmaking. I don't know if someone did it before you, there will probably more such filmmakers in the future but you sir... You're going down in history books as a explorer of the new land. Thank you for being you.
As a budding flimmaking when my heart doubts feel drain now and in future I'll always look upto you and the journey you've had ! Thank You for being so Kind to share the journey with us ! You are an Inspiration Thank You soo much ! I love you David !
Brotha I love ya no matter what your an extrovert or introvert. Your an inspiration to me and loved all your horror shorts and and making dope Superhero movies. I pray for more success along the way.
As silly as it sounds, you are the reason I'm keep dreaming about becoming a movie director. I was in a really bad mental place and were your videos (and your words) to give me strenght. You are not just a really good director, you are a kind soul.
I can totally feel the "looking depressed in comparison". The trailer looked great, Zach (since we're on RUclips, shout out to ›Video Game High School‹; probably my favourite role of his) and the rest of the cast are awesome, but you are the real star for me. And hey, if you want to talk more about technical details and problem solving (5:51), there are always people here who are ready to listen :)
David, I just want to say that you are a legitimate inspiration to me. I'm an introvert, but I also love making stuff. For years I felt that was too introverted and awkward to put stuff out there, but then I just sort of started, and seeing how you've gained success despite being an introvert has really helped me keep going at times. Keep up the good work, I can't wait for Shazam 2 🤘🙂🤘.
David, I love your videos. Nobody does a better job of demystifying the filmmaking process, whether it's making shorts by yourself at home or big budget movies. This one really spoke to me though. In my work I'm around productions quite a lot, shooting BTS and interviews for EPKs. I've seen a lot of directors with very outgoing personalities and recently, as an introvert myself, I've been thinking maybe I'm just not the right match for that role, even though I love directing. Your vlog gave me hope! We need a plurality of voices behind the camera and that includes introverts. Thanks for the reassurance.
David you are an amazing film maker, Shazam was great and the new film looks just as good. I'm a big fan of your short films and you are an inspiration.
This was awesome to see from a director standpoint. We never get to see what direction does. Glad your so open & showing is behind the scenes of the industry.
Can we just appreciate how awesome and down to earth David is? A big Hollywood director giving every single insight into what goes into film making, that's not something very common. I am an aspiring film maker (also an ambivert), and it's gives me so much to learn about from David's videos. Thanks for sharing these , David. And the trailer looks amazing!!
Only thing that I felt was missing at the panel was an official poster for the film. DC films have some great teaser artwork, I was kinda surprised we didn't get one alongside the trailer (which looked amazing) 👉👈. Can't wait for the film!
Thanks for the continued behind the scenes dialogue and analysis. This is really informative and I feel you have a serious knack as a narrator. I get a major kick out of this, keep up the amazing work!
Hi David. I'm Francis Gacer a Filipino filmmaker based in Dubai. I would like to let you know that you have been my ultimate Non-Asian indie film director that I looked up to. Seeing how you have started making horror shortfilms with your lovely wife and ventured fully in the mainstream to the extent that DC asked you to direct Shazam....YOU REALLY MY INSPIRATION! Salute to you!
David really gives us a legit perspective from what's life really like after you become a director and he's just so relatable I really love his work and I learn alot from his videos
Well said sir. What I like the best about you and your work is the expression on your face while surrounded wit the flamboyant class. That thing they do is sale on screen. they wouldn't get much work otherwise. I'm with you - I rather talked about how the hell you managed to get everyone on the same vibe for a shot or how you used a practical effect of your own to solve a seemingly impossible problem into a common sense and simple solution. that is what is your genius and if I was in your position this is what I would show, be yourself, be da man...
Awesome video David! It's super cool to see the ins and outs of this sort of press thingy. I'm sure you'll make a stop down in Australia during your press tour! 😁
The lead up to the panel put my own nerves on edge - As always an interesting perspective and cool inside look into the bts of filmmaking promotion. It would be awesome to see something similar when you do the press tour of Fury of the Gods. Thanks again for the great video!

Congrats on everything man and keep being you!😃
Thank you!
Great to see Lotta there as well, you two are lucky to have each other.
lotta did such a great job with the coverage. Very nice authentic nice sweet little video 🎥
You are an inspiration for us budding filmmakers back in Sweden, David. You have no idea how many of us look up to you.
You sir, are an absolute diamond. Amazing content as always, presented in such a likeable and relatable way.
Better to be yourself and be true to that, don’t let somebody else change you, because in the end you’re unique as can be.
It's so beautiful to see this journey with Lotta and you together. It's so well deserved by you guys that makes me happy (and hopeful!) keep it on!!
You are like a superhero dad for every filmaker ! You’re awesome
Please never change David F Sandberg
You are such a hero for making this video - so needed for people in any industry.
This video was amazing! Thank you for letting us experience this!
I don't know why, but I am so proud for this.
Please never stop doing this, you are an absolute gem of a filmmaker and gem of a RUclipsr.
Thank you
Genuinely nice to see the honesty and earnestness you two show on camera (and behind the scenes). Thanks for posting.
As a fellow introvert, who'll probably never attended SDCC, let alone be a guest there, I really appreciate this insight. It's fascinating to get a glimpse behind the curtain.
This is so cool. I really dig that you share so much with us!!
I'm introverted as well but I still hope to be able to do all this someday.
Thanks for sharing your experience David. Love from Malta.
I totally feel You.
I used to be more extrovert alas it's gone and now days I'm introvert and the drained feeling is really real. Sometimes it's easier to recover other days ...
I have the utmost respect for David F. Sandburg. He seems so sincere, transparent and without ego.
I hope you do something similar during the movie press tour (at least when you go overseas)
Thank you!!
For those of us who are introverts, we understand your exhaustion. 😂
Shazam⚡️ is the best DC film ever!
Love your channel, David. Thanks heaps for sharing your insights about your journey.
Always loved how open, honest and vulnerable you are! More people should take note!
I cannot express how much I love you and Lotta and I love what you two do. As an introvert myself, I understand the struggle. Thank you for sharing your this and for being amazing!!!
Your candidness is refreshing. Your filmmaking is fantastic. I applaud you in so many ways.
Such a powerful video. As a fellow introvert I can truly relate to where he is coming from. Thank you for your honesty.
You're living the dream, David, and you totally deserve.
You're the coolest film director I've ever seen!!! I love you man, you're such an inspiration for us young filmmakers!!❤️❤️
The most humble director out there. Thanks for taking us on this journey with u.
Thanks for the continued behind the scenes dialogue and analysis. This is really informative and I feel you have a serious knack as a narrator. I get a major kick out of this, keep up the amazing work!
I'm rooting so hard for you man. Can't wait to watch the movie
This is the “Meeting People is Easy” but for Comicon. I love how brilliantly real you documented it and how unsexy it can be a lot of the time
Incredible vid! It’s always exciting to peek into the filmmaking process(press tours included)
I LOVE this type of video, thanks David. And thanks for being open about the publicity stuff.
I love this. I love that you're the same person that you were when you did the "Lights Out" short. Awesome stuff! Cheers to you and Lotta!
