    • @davide.schiaffino
      @davide.schiaffino 4 года назад +4

      @@grisoli521 It is not worth, if you cant record on 16bit without clipping it, you should learn better, as even if 32 bit prevents the loss of info when the input is too loud, IT DAMAGES THE MIC.
      So no, never ever rely on 32 bit for that.

    • @UpperState
      @UpperState 4 года назад +12

      @@davide.schiaffino 32 bit is for insurance. If you're shooting a scene and your actor decides to make an unplanned decision by doing something like shouting at the other actor or to themselves and it results in a wonderful moment that works perfectly for your movie, you want to make sure that you capture it then. Instead of being like oh by the way we need to do that take again because the audio was clipped. They may not be able to get that emotional moment again in the same exact way. And no, ADR is never as good as in the moment capture for most things.

    • @davide.schiaffino
      @davide.schiaffino 4 года назад +4

      @@UpperState Oh yeah, of course it works as insurance.
      Btw, my bad, I was talking from a music producer's POV. When you make a song, you just cant make the mics clip, doing so is a huge amateur red flag.
      But yeah, I get the point, of course it can be used like that, still, I suggest not surpassing the thresholds, as doing so too frequently can and will damage the mic a lot.

    • @grisoli521
      @grisoli521 4 года назад +1

      @@davide.schiaffino of course, not just "forget about the controls" but to do it as well and precise as always and with this new tecnologic hace the insurance of rescue the dialogue.

    The first 20 seconds are so relatable even though we are clearly playing in different sandboxes. You can map out why certain things are the way they are here by observing viewer behavior on various channels over time. This also changed my perspective about some popular criticisms of movies and studios. Your test screening videos is still one of my favorites.

    Changing focus in post IS actually possible.
    Ten years ago, they (not Black Magic) announced they were working on such a camera, and a couple years back I saw a demonstration of this.
    This new camera would also enable you to change the f.stop in post and do focus pulling and all that.
    The way it worked (very simplified) was to record where each particle of light came from, and thus it sort of created a 3D space in which one could do the with focus as they pleased (They couldn't rearrange the position of the camera, though, maybe in the more futurerer future)
    Another really awesome thing about this, was that since it recorded the "origins" of the particles, this meant that you were able to crop in 3D space as well, in other words; you wouldn't need a greenscreen, as you could simply remove all the particle from behind the actors. You could record a crowd of people, and if say two of those people were standing two yards closer to the camera than everybody else, you could "key" out everybody and leave only those two people visible, and then change the background.
    This is the future,,, and also very scary if you ask me.
    Fixing out-of-focus recordings and "keying" out people perfectly are great advantages to this, but I personally think it puts too much "creative" control onto the post-production process.

    Thank you for creating these videos! It’s a breath of fresh air to see what filmmakers like you and your wife can create when you don’t have a giant budget or crew. A lot of people on RUclips talk about making films but you two actually do it! That being said, I think the thing I struggle with most is producing. I see filmmakers share their knowledge on writing and directing, but I almost never see or hear anything about producing. More specifically, what a producer does and what resources I can use to help my films. What are some ways you or other filmmakers have financed productions? What do you do once you have secured funding? These questions probably don’t have simple answers but they’re what I mainly struggle with. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your films and your insights on filmmaking, I look forward to whatever you both make next!

    Story, heart, real. Gut real. And fun. If you have these, you have the makings of a great film. I start there and if I need tools to enhance the basics then so be it. But tools should never get in the way of storytelling or be self-aware. That’s why my films will always be bare-bones and focus on people’s faces. I like your films. Real and fun. And just enough enhancements to add to the entertainment factor. 🎥

    Amazing upload as usual! Informative and friggin funny as hell! 😁
    I'm using Storyboarder for narrative AND for commercial work for some time now if I don't have the budget or the time to hire a storyboard artist. It helps setting up the scenes and getting a feeling for everything. There are some bugs here and there but they have come a long way and keep improving the tool. Personally, I mainly use it with the *shot generator*. Some inputs are still a bit finnicky but it's really getting better and better. Oh and the VR possibilities.. oooomph!
    In 2019 I managed to pre-produce, shoot, edit and post-produce an 8min shortfilm for a client efficiently with Storyboarder by putting out an 11-page, approx. 30 shot storyboard that helped IMMENSELY in communication beforehand and on set. It can't replicate a real storyboard artist for sure but that's actually not the goal of the software. In fact it even gives traditional storyboarders new ways of producing this type of content.
    Definitely a great piece of software so far. Thanks for mentioning it. The tool itself but also the community around it deserve some more attention for sure!
    Have a nice one!

    I spent way too many moments laughing hysterically at your observations and humor. 😂

    This video is so awesome! (Also I got rlly excited when I found out that you use Krita cuz I’ve been using that software for my digital drawing for the past year and I love it!)

    Ah Mr David, wish you would make more content online, but do appreciate you're busy. Hope to see more shorts on the way! :)

    2:00 Kinda like the light-field cameras that Lytro was trying to make?
