Could be a rival to the Gaia archetype, since they're both about a warrior that dual wields weapons that unite their powers with an assortment of different dragons.
I was kinda thinking something similar when I kept seeing the Gaia Dragon fusion. And I mean, Gaia got a bunch of support, so let’s bring up a new challenger.
Dark Blade was the rival of Paladin of White Dragon. I don't think a Gaia rivalry is fitting, though a Chaos/Black Luster Soldier connection could work as it can be Normal monster ritual fodder for the new BLS and their swords are quite similar. Not to mention, BLS has dragon connections like Dark Blade does, both with Dragon master Knight and Chaos Emperior Dragon being his Chaos counterpart and armour influence.
Might be wrong, but I remember reading that Dark Blade is also one of Dai Grepher's possible outcomes, depending on the weapon he picks when he stumbles upon the secret armory in his lore.
I also remember hearing Dark Blade was a possible future for Dai Grepher, but I’d heard that it was the result of Dai Grepher choosing the dark path in the forked paths shown in the trap card “The Paths of Destiny.”
@@GatorEXYGO rumored but never confirmed. It's theorized that dai used to be dark blade but abandoned that. But someone "warrior lady from far lands" knew his secret, which lead to their rivalry, and then their DD shenanigans.
I'd make a dark blade that could fuse itself to any dragon on the field but would make a different fusion monster depending on the attribute of the dragon plus a new dragon unions for each attribute that that support dark blade and had effects when they were used a fusion material.
I feel that if Konami does make a Dark Blade deck, they should give it the Flamesowedsman treatment. Focus on 3-4 core cards and make support for it that is considered broken in any other archetype but fine since it only supports a specific card
Retrains would be great. Retrain the vanilla as "Dark Blade, the Dragon Manipulator". Same stat line as normal, but it now has the effect to search monsters that mention "Dark Blade", and if the searched monster is a Union Monster, equip it immediately. The retrained Union monsters could be called "Dark Pitched Dragon" and "Kiryu, the Shadow Sweeper". Each of them having their Union effects, but only being able to Equip to a DARK Warrior that mentions "Dark Blade". The equipped monster against 500 (Dark Pitched) OR 1000 (Shadow Sweeper) ATK. Their Unique effects would stay the same as their originals. They would really stand out now, and now Kiryu is searchable & Equippable without the hassle! As for King of Yamimakai, call him "Makai, King of Yami". Same stat line, but the effect to discard to Special Summon a DARK Warrior that mentions "Dark Blade" from hand, deck, or GY, and add a Dragon type Union Monster to hand. If this searched Union mentions "Dark Blade", auto equip. The best board with these four cards being used would need two cards: both King of Yamimakai & Dark Blade Retrains in hand. Discard Makai to SS a copy of the Dark Blade retrain & search one of the retrained Dragons and auto equip. Normal the retrain Dark Blade in hand, use effect to search the other retrained dragon & auto equip. You got two Dark Blades riding two dragons.
Most of the subtypes could use some modernization. Outside of specific decks that use them (and that one period where they revisited the mechanics) we hardly ever receive new Union, Gemini, and Spirit monsters. Union probably has it best of the three though.
Yeah, I thought it was neat when Spirits got Aratama and Nikitama to really help them out. Feel like the subtypes are all ready for a good wave of more support.
While i am glade Dark Blade was reworked into Memento, i do agree Dark blade needs a little more love. I was planning on using this archetype for Vivian (Duel monsters) for my cpu vs cpu yugioh tournaments on my channel.
If im not mistaken im pretty sure dark blade is meant to be a rival to paladin with eyes of blue. Both are dragon riding knights with equip spells based on their armor.
I'd take a page from the Mementotlans and the new Millenium archetype and have Dark Blade be the center, but include the other unions like Vampire Orchis and Decayed Commnder in the archetype as support for him. Let them tag out with various fusion combos and then let the Fusions tag out into the pieces to help preserve the Union flavor while granting flexibility to the archetype.
Union will be less bad if we can equip the card from hand too. I don't know why they didn't try to modernize the Union and give ability to equip from hand. We have fusion and ritual summon from deck or using material from anywhere as the innovation, or other mechanic with their weird gimmick like Synchro without tuner/non-tuner, Xyz only use effect like Purely, Link summon using monster in hand as material, etc. Also, still hate the fact that card with name literally Union Carrier, but carry non-Union card too. I hope we got retrain and make it only take and equip an Union.
Dark Blade should get his own archetype.....heck.....it can the first actual union monster deck that uses the mechanic as it's intended. The XYZ archetype doesn't use it much, if at all. But retrained versions of Dark Blade & his dragons could! Heck, add some soldier monster, his own horse, and maybe a boss monster of him that gets stronger with each union monster on the field, & get a bonus effect while equipped with one.
So since dark blade was my favorite of the unions and im one of the rare few players who loved the union mechanic before xyz took it over my idea was expanding on whats there. First i gave DB more dragons (6), gave each combo a neos style contact fusion (errata pitch included), unions were battle focus, while fusions were deck eff focused, at least 4 generic union support spells and traps, field spell (acting like a cross between cyberdark invasion and dragon ravine), & lastly a big boss monster (big humanoid dragon fusion monster similar in design to dragonic overlord from CFV with +effects like Tierra). I already made the card text im working on the art before postin to custom cards forum.
Funny, I remember by just looking at him, I thought Dark Blade was apart of the "Red-Eyes" archetype, but you know like an unspoken member of it. Seeing as Dark Blade does indeed have red eyes and is wearing black armor and all. Maybe someday Konami will make a "Red-Eyes" version of Dark Blade perhaps?
Oh yeah, I love Dark Blade and desperately want this little union package to get its own deck. But also? *So many* starter decks randomly contain Dark Blade. Between that and the art - he's not forgotten. He's iconic. How is he not his own deck by now?!
I feel like they need to make a new version that works with Dark World, cause of the cards description about being a dragon manipulating warrior from the dark world, so it could work with Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World in some way. Maybe a new fusion where it rides on the back of Grapha, like with Pitch-Dark Dragon. Maybe if you're opponent has a Dragon type on the field, it can take control of it or Special Summon one from the Graveyard or something.
I swear. If we Were Living in a Different Timeline! Darkblade Would Definitely Have his Own Union Fusion Archetype to Fight Against the XYZ Dragon Cannon Archetype! I Mean! It would be Badass to See Dark Blade either riding His Dragons or Fusing the Beasts into his Armor to Create Something AKIN to “Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon”.
dark blade needs a chaos remake, perhaps it's own updated archetype of just five new supporting cards, preferbally a light/dark dragon that references it's other form of dark blade. kiryu needs a fusion monster alongside darkblade as well.
Union Monster equip strategies are rough in the game unless the deck mechanic involves some kind of boss monster and by then, it's just a bunch of recourses that barely work. This archetype is amazing. Still waiting for Cyberdarks Horn, Edge, and Keel to get their modern retrains, but at what point are the cards playable without forcing their mechanic to even function? I'd love to see the Union monsters make a comeback without needing to go into boss monsters given even the boss monsters have very linear effects and only act as beaters unless you're using the Light Union Machines. Dark Blade is awesome still!
i wish Dark Blade could get neW union dragons monsters with playable effects(and sorta dragunity dragons like designs) and new spell/traps to make an archetype deck.
I do think that dark blade needs some more support especially the Kiryu fusion that you talk about But it is fairly decent all things considered because it has other cards that synergize with it specifically and it stats are good for its level
I found this video because I've been trying to look up Dard Blade's lore. There's plenty to dig up on this, but the story really is incomplete. It also fits in with the lore of so many other cards.
