I would like to comment on 3 points on this: 1. Hollow mask: the hollow mask is indeed a result of the training. Ichigo did hollowfy in the process. The purpose of the shaft was for Ichigo's soul to accumulate spiritual energy exceeding its current capacity through the hollowfication. However Ichigo must first find his zanpakuto before he fully hollowfy. 2. Zanpakuto: the broken sword that appeared after the hollowed shaft is not a soulless blade, but it is indeed White/Zangetsu unreleased state. It is the same zanpakuto hes been using in the first arc. The reason it easily breaks is that Urahara is cutting it with his shikai against Ichigo who is still struggling to draw out his shinigami powers. It doesn't have enough reiatsu to fend off Benihime because of two reasons, it is still sealed and Ichigo does not have yet the mentality to draw out its potential. Evidence of this is that a handle still remained in this blade that Ichigo used to release his zanpakuto. Also another evidence is the marking on the mask suggests that his hollow has used his shinigami powers beforehand. 3. Shihakusho: his shihakusho is not part of his shinagami powers. If it is then his final Zangetsu's bankai should have manipulated his shihakusho. Still it is not the standard shinigami shihakusho since he did not receive it from Soul Society. The only explanation is that his shihakusho is an extension of his zanpakuto, Zangetsu. Which is why its shape transforms when he goes bankai and its state can affect the amount of reiatsu he can exert during their conversation with Unohana in Garganta.
Indeed. In a way him cultivating Ichigo as an epic hybrid hero is his way of making up for all the awful things he's done in his life even if that's not a theme. Kisuke was on top of things from the start. Wonder if Aizen, beyond his massive ego and in the back of his mind, knew he wasn't going to ultimately win no matter how far he got. Urahara sure helped Ichigo become a savior if the worlds. It's also helpful that Kisuke and others in the know hid Ichigo's hybrid heritage in the postwar era to avoid issues with Soul Society's nobility and their mad obsession with purity.
Soul Society’s nobility didn’t really have an obsession with purity like the Quincy. Soul Society’s nobility is more obsessed with having power/control. If they know about Ichigo’s true heritage or power they would have either killed him out of fear or they would try to forcefully control him and then get another Ginjo. Either way the nobility and the Central 46 would make Soul Society another enemy since they never think about anything else but their own self interests.
@@Dragon66898 True. The cover up is about being practical. But at this point it's moot in the postwar era the nobility and hardliners are essentially self made prisoners in their estates, the war having completely scared them away thus allowing Shunsui to enact his unprecedented reforms without troubles. The irony, for all the bluster and bloodshed they unleashed for their power they were the first to run when the Quincies seemed to be winning.

to me. Kisuke is more evil than Aizen if you think about it. This guy created the Hogyoku, who later Aizen used and because of that, Aizen became immortal.
