What a reading lesson with your child should look like

- I hope this mostly unedited video will show you the tone of voice to use, pacing, and overall 'feel' of what a reading lesson with your child should be. Your child should be engaged, feel positive about the experience, and answer loud and clear. The lessons should be paced appropriately - not rushed and definitely do not take much longer than 20 - 30 minutes depending on the child's age!
This video is specifically for subscribers using the From Phonics to Reading to catch your child up by the end of the school year. Make sure you join the main reading group below, then request to join the specific Phonics to Reading group. (Only those people who took the course may join the private group, but anyone can join the overall reading help group!).

Imagine if all parents did this with their children every day. Even if it's only supplementation to being in public school, the future and possibilities would be drastically better for every child. I think the world would be a far better place for all of us. I am immensely grateful for this mom. 🙏
This is beautiful. These moments are precious! Just imagine them seeing these videos when they are 35 and 33 years old.
For me, teaching children is not just passing on knowledge, it is an opportunity to mentor and bond with your child.
well done!!
Thank you for sharing. I wish every child had a teacher like you!!
As a Canadian teacher, whose board is now moving to the Science of Reading, this is so helpful for me!!! Thank youuuu!!!!!!
That’s great!
EXCELLENT teaching execution by you, and learning capabilities by your daughter!!! At 74 I enjoyed being retaught (in a more understanding way, might I add?} the concept of closed and opened syllables>. Thank you, Akeeba!
I actually don’t recall ever having learned this concept. I hope to pass along to my grandchildren.
I’ve been keeping up with your videos and I love them. I get a little overwhelmed at times lol. I have a 6 year old and one that will be 3 years in a few months. I’m homeschooling both of them, been that way since birth but I somehow feel like I need to be doing more like I don’t have a structured curriculum or a set way of teaching. My 6 years old reads well she’s been reading since 3 but she sometimes struggle with big words and guess them instead of breaking them down. What I’m getting to is what’s your current curriculum for the girls for reading and math and what can I use to not only ensure my oldest becomes a stronger reader but also have the right foundation when it comes to reading.
Great teacher and an extraordinary mom 🥰
Your daughter is beautiful Akeema & you are a wonderful mommy & teacher. Enjoyed watching this since I am teaching my youngest how to read. 🤩🤩
I love her eagerness to sit and learn with you, Akeeba. Thanks for sharing.
This looks amazing! Thank you for sharing. Looks like a lot better for for me and my littles. I’ve been looking into AAR but this looks like it matches my teaching still!
Amazing!! Thank you for sharing
You are fabulous 💐👏🏾
Great job teaching, you are a great teacher. Thanks for sharing with us, beautiful girls.
This was very helpful. Thank you!
This was great. Thank you.
wow impressed!
Thank you !!!
I love your instruction and curriculum recommendations! Can you share which art tutorial channels on RUclips you use for the kids?
I love your content and I am no where near all the knowledge you hold about education. I share the basics. Anyway, I have a question for you. All my kids read good, but I feel like there can be improvement on sounding out words, any book suggestions to do with them or materials to review with? For older kids.
Hello and thank you! Is your group accessible off Facebook?
Thanks!
You're welcome! And thank you!
Hi Akeeba, and thank you for the video. What art lesson is Amashe (im not sure if that's how her name is spelt) doing? We're trying to find some art classes online for our girls.
Teaching reading is so fun and easy when there is one child and not a group or 20+ of them.
YOU ARE AN AMAZING WOMAN
👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 you. Should write books for the kids please?
Can you do live videos?
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE 😍 ✌️
no one has a good look into phonics to reading. can you do a look into the book video? I'm looking for level k. someone has a good video on level 1 which is first.
I wish the home school and teaching books would advertise better. the good and the beautiful and hooked on phonics have ads out which is good..
How do we sign up for your reading course?
Hi Akeeba great video. Can you please tell me when to introduce letter names to my child. He has learnt the letter sounds already. Also same question about capital letters. What stage should they be taught. This is the most confusing thing I find in almost all phonic programs. My child can sound out basic words and also blends them well on his own. I want to focus a little on spellings so should I teach him letter names for that first or should I focus on sounds only, Your advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Hi, what age is the child? you can introduce the letter names with the letter sounds to a child who is old enough to remember them both. same thing goes for capital letters. A child who is around 4 1/2 to 5 can handle that information. A younger child can grasp it too, but just know they may have a little trouble.
What curriculum or books you used for first grade??
What are the flashcards being used?
They are sound spelling cards, included in the book!
Good day what book is this again
Hello, I’m in Canada and missed last reading class. Please when is the next class ?
I’m not sure, but please join the group anyway!
@@AkeebaMaze Sounds good! Thanks.
How do I build vocabulary. My kids have great fluency but their issue is actually vocabulary.
Is there a difference between level A and kdg?
Thank you. What reading curriculum are you using? Well, the name if the books❤
From Phonics to Reading!
I know this video is about reading But what art program is your daughter doing back there?
She was on a RUclips video, a series of art lessons by "carla soheim"
Any tips for getting 3 yr old to recognize letters?

Sand paper letters, you can also make them yourself. I made glitter glue letters on laminated cards. The child can trace the letter while saying the letter sound.
I see your composition challenges your daughter to do her best while also gives her the grace she needs to feel confident.
I got finally a quote fro saddlier. For the 8 books they want $375. Is what you guys got?
The teachers book is $50.99, and the student books are $15.99. So even if you get all four sets, the total should be about $268. Where are you shipping to? I’d recommend just getting the first book that you need, if you just have one child. Because you’ll be able to buy it used from other people in our group.
@@AkeebaMaze I ... asked for military discount... and then they send me another quote with that value! Just waiting for the next paycheck to buy it :)
Hello Akeeba
I tried to buy the curriculum but no one answers from the company.
Did you email them? They've been flooded with calls because of our eager community! Try that!
@@AkeebaMaze i did! Sent two already no answer :(
@@AkeebaMaze I'm alrwady thinking about using explode the code instead.
Hello akeeba and girls
Hi!!!
