    What a time to be alive. Hello WEC, passionate fan here 👋. Not sure if this is the correct place for this, but here goes.
    Amazing race, amazing cars, great circuit, I’m giddy with excitement for the rest of the season. However, if I may, I would respectfully like to offer some (hopefully constructive) criticism of the TV broadcast. In no particular order:
    - The race was 10 hours long, and the Hypercar grid featured 19 cars, but it felt like half the Hypercar grid never made it onto the TV broadcast. Alpine, BMW, Lamborghini, and IF barely got any coverage. I talked with several people on social media before, during, and after the race, new fans who were watching their first ever WEC race, who left a bit disappointed. For example, people who were tuning in specifically to see the new Lambo on track, or Mick Schumacher fans who were keen to follow their favourite driver. I get that it’s a big grid, and it’s a long season, so hopefully these fans will eventually get their fill, but it would be nice to see the broadcast do a more rounded job of showing more of the field. We’ve all spent a long time hyping up Hypercar, both the diversity and the size of the field, but then during the race, it felt like we missed half of the grid.
    - Basically the same thing for GT3. Trust me, I get the excitement for Hypercar, but I also talked to a lot of people who were a bit disappointed with the lack of coverage of the GT3 field.
    - I think there’s some room to tweak the use of the Picture in Picture feature. It doesn’t work so well when you show on-boards with the Picture in Picture box, because it’s too small to really make anything out. What the Picture in Picture is great for is things like pit lane interviews.
    - Speaking of pit lane interviews, we don’t need to cut away from the racing action every time there is an interview. The interview can be audio only, or accompanied by a small Picture in Picture window as mentioned.
    - Concerning pit lane and garage footage, it is currently way over the top. The number of times we cut away from cars on track to show random people staring at a TV screen was really unnecessary. It adds nothing of value to the broadcast, and is awkward for everyone involved, both the people on camera, and us fans watching. In particular, there was one moment early in the race where one of the GT drivers had just exited the car, done an interview….and then the camera focused on this exhausted man’s face for WAY too long. It was so unbelievably awkward, to the point that he eventually had to get up and walk away, because neither the camera operator or TV director could seem to take a hint.
    - Connected to the points listed above, over the course of the race, it felt like we cut away from on-track action to watch pit crews doing jumping jacks, or get close in shots of pit crew nose hairs, more than we got to see BMW, Alpine, Lambo, and IF combined.
    - Hourly recaps are appreciated and have their place within the broadcast. However, the slow motion montages set to cheesy guitar riffs are completely unnecessary. If there happens to be a Safety Car or stoppage in the action, and there is room for filler content, then sure….but not while a live race is taking place.
    - I didn’t watch the race on the WEC app myself, but I was in a live chat with many who were, and several times, multiple people were complaining that the app was being very buggy, lagging, and otherwise disrupting their viewing of the race. Please sort this out.
    - With all due respect to the wonderful Mr Martin Haven, two things of note. First, he needs to brush up on his knowledge regarding the history of Lexus racing outside of Japan. Lexus competed in their first Daytona 24 Hour in 2002, entered the prototype class in 2004, and from 06-08, won the Daytona 24 Hour three times in a row. They have been a staple in American sports car racing since. In Europe, as far back as 2008, Lexus began entering a race version of their LFA in the Nurburgring 24 Hour. Starting in 2018, Emil Frey began entering a two car effort in the European Blancpain GT3 series with the RCF GT3. I understand that a commentator won’t get everything right during a live broadcast, but honestly found it a bit disappointing that no one in the production team was able to correct Mr Haven on these facts. Second, the snacking in the commentary both needs to end. I understand that Mr Haven prides himself on being this Ironman of commentary, but if he needs to eat a sandwich, please step out of the booth for ten minutes to have your lunch. Many of us listen with headphones, and the lip smacking and throat clearing between bites of sandwich is extremely…well, it’s gross. The co-commentators are extremely capable and experienced, they can hold the fort down while Mr Haven has a bight to eat.
    That’s everything I’ve got. Like I said, hopefully this is the right place to leave this, I don’t know where else to write or send these observations lol. Overall, the race was fantastic, and I can’t wait for Imola.

    • @josesammut9396
      @josesammut9396 2 месяца назад

      Not the write place but yeah. Racing is awesome, coverage could be better. Mr producer, I need more car noise, better on boards, better timing ladder (including driver, colour coded) and I wanna know what's happening up and down the field.

    • @mr8I7
      @mr8I7 2 месяца назад +2

      Forget it. It took them about 7 years to do highlights for 6 hour races longer than 3 minutes long.
      Half of your points are nit picking. I thought the coverage was actually good and well balanced between the teams and classes considering their relative importance or standing in the race.

    • @albinorhino6
      @albinorhino6 2 месяца назад

      @@mr8I7it’s not about their relative importance in regards to position in the race. It’s about the fact it’s a brand new era with many new teams and cars. Unless a person does their own research on the side, many fans know nothing about all the new entries, and we barely learned anything about them from this race. The race was 10 hours long, it’s not like they were short on time to be able to show more of BMW, Alpine, Lambo, and IF.
      You may call it nitpicking, but that’s how you slowly improve a product. Many, many people on various platforms were let down by the coverage. Many, many people find the close ups of nose hairs and face pimples, repetitive jumping jacks, and cheesy slow motion montages completely unnecessary, adding nothing of value to the overall production. Would you rather see a Lambo or Alpine on screen, or a close up of a random person uncomfortably staring at a TV screen?
