      +forexjammer There's a general "rule" that anything that's animated is canon and what isn't animated isn't canon.
      Personally, I'm not so sure about Thunderbolt fitting in with the main UC canon since the design are very different. Even with the explanation.
      They just look too advanced for machines fielded during the OYW imo.

    • @yukimabi5225
      @yukimabi5225 8 лет назад +6

      Yep its a general thing where animated is made canon, Though its also messy since there are things that contradict the timelines or mechs such as the Guntank in Origins throwing out a lot of previously established information out the window, I have a strong hunch that Thunderbolt is part of that too.

    • @forexjammer

      +Kakarot197 oh wow didnt know that kind of rule apply lol. Yeah psycho zaku and thunderbolt is ridiculously op they make amuro's gundam a joke

    Just like an austronaut-the cloth joints, backpack, thrusters and all.

    • @Etherdave
      @Etherdave 5 лет назад +1

      I like the look too, and it looks more appropriate for space. However I've noticed that Federation and Zeon suits use the exact same parts for the cloth-covered joints. Are they being produced by the same company? Because that would be Collaborating With The Enemy... or War Profiteering... or both. Just saying.

    • @midshipman8654
      @midshipman8654 4 года назад +2

      Etherdave later on, after the one year war, yes, Anaheim makes their product parts universal to make war a more logistically smooth “business” and sell to both Freddie’s and neo zeon (the latter under the table of course), but at this point in the timeline they are separate manufacturers. Zeon has zeonic and a few others, and EF has in house design team.
      One the point of the joint covering. It’s not exactly rocket science, probably different developers. It’s no crazy government secret to how to cover joints with a tarp or rubberized sheath. You could probably run down to the Home Depot and get some now.

    I excuse the different look due to these being Moore Brotherhood customs. When the feds send in the reinforcements of GM Cannons and Guncannons piloted by teens/kids they are all colored and generally designed similarly enough to their normal UC variants, asides from the extra thrusters and packs, which again can be excused by instability of the sector requiring higher maneuverability.

    I found this (very hard to find) kit and built it. It's the first one I've painted, mainly because the thruster stickers on the legs look _terrible._
    Luckily, the kit comes with two sets of leg parts - just the white bottom halfs; left and right - so you can try using the stickers on some and paint with the others... or keep a spare set in case you royally screw up the paint job. :)

  • @harutothefriendlyodst7639

    I don't see how this can be any less cannon than the original gundam time-line.
    The designs of the GMs can be attributed to the conditions of where they operate, Mesh on the joints and shields so they can survive getting Zapped in the titular Thunderbolt Sector and thrusters so they can move around more given the added weight, we actually see Io's gundam tank a Lightning zap too in the OVA.
    I can see this happening in some region of space in the original show.
    There is the issue about the Full Armor gundam though, that I agree with, but if this was during the closing days of the OYW, then Chobam armor already exists, and we already heard the other full armor gundam exists here too.
    Only this one was made so it could survive in the said thunderbolt sector.
    And we see both sides of the war do this to an extent, as we see with the GM cold districts type, GM ground type, Zaku 2 ground type, Zaku 2 High Mobility type Etc etc, and since the general rule of thumb is Animated = Canon
    Then Thunderbolt suits can be considered Canon, as for the origin suits idk, that show contradicts alot of stuff in the original show compared to thunderbolt anyways.

  • @Etherdave

    Of course mechas depicted in Thunderbolt take their design cues from Gundam: The Origin, which is an effective reboot of the entire franchise. The bagged joints are a nod to Gundam 0080: War In The Pocket, which continues to be an astoundingly strong influence on the franchise. While I understand the frustration over hollow parts, detailed on only one side, I also can guarantee that engineering solid, or at least detailed-in-round, articulated shield arms et al., would only have made this kit extremely expensive... and the Thunderbolt series is, to a kit, already conspicuously more expensive than previous series. Thanks for posting.

  • @Etherdave
    @Etherdave 5 лет назад

    All the Thunderbolt kits feature enhanced details and designs that improve upon what has come before, in keeping with increased visual complexity of the manga and its anime adaptation. That said, you pay for what you get: Thunderbolt kits are notably more expensive than their HGUC counterparts. The four Thunderbolt kits I've built so far all contain both foil and clear plastic stickers, feature enhanced articulation and poseability, offer a complete range of accessories, and even provide alternate stickers for folks who paint; this is no insinuation, it is how these kits are being produced, and it sets the level of the Thunderbolt kits above that of the HGUC and closer to Real Grade. Hollow parts are what they are: they save on plastic, provide for better quality castings, and reduce complexity for younger builders. Also, they are accessories. You may rest easier considering that very likely some guy who actually gets paid to reduce the costs of these kits probably ordered the designer to design the grappler arms this way: he does his job, and his kids get to eat that evening. Some epoxy putty, or a few pieces of plastic card can solve the issue. In the final analysis one could ask 'Do I want to buy this kit?'. Or one might ask 'Did I pay more for that GM-Ground-type from 'The 08th MS Team', or the GM Guard from 'Gundam The Origin'? If so, this is a worthy addition to one's collection of Federation mobile suits.

    Why don’t the Thunderbolt kits get re issued? Why aren’t there more Thunderbolt kits? I’d love the Gogg or Rick Dom

  • @Arrowdodger
    @Arrowdodger 10 лет назад

    I previously thought the suit was too busy, and did not expect this great new body for it. I think I will get this now. I wonder if they are going to use this mold with some modifications when Gundam Origin comes to animation, and they will likely do that GM.
    I don't mind it not being able to wear the shield and the beam cannon on the same arm, since really, it more or less has a shield built into it, anyway. At least, it looks like it can probably block with it, against the likes of vulcan fire or beam saber, if it has beam coating. I can't imagine he'd like taking missile fire into his beam weapon, though.

    • @nightdragonize
      @nightdragonize 10 лет назад

      Yeah that's kinda exiting to think that these molds might be a precursor to some Gundam origins kits! Oh god please give me an updated Rick Dom!

    • @kakarot197
      @kakarot197  10 лет назад

      The busyness of the suit was something I worried about too. I still wonder how the FA Gundam or especially the Zaku II HM will turn out. =P
      I'm pretty sure they'll make a new mold for the Origin GM. Just like the thunderbolt, you immediately know that it's a GM, but it's still very different from any GM that has been released as a model.
      I don't think I mentioned it in the review, but the reason I said that it was a shame that the GM couldn't wield the shield on the beam cannon was because the FA Gundam can do it with his shield and twin beam cannon.

    • @Arrowdodger
      @Arrowdodger 10 лет назад

      Ah, I see. yeah, that is disappointing then, and good point. Speaking of molds and all, and since GMs, if I recall, have arm-mounted machine guns in Origin, I would love if Bandai made a new Gundam Alex, since the old one is kind of dated as a model. I could be wrong, but I do remember Zaku IIs have vulcans in Origin, so there are numerous differences.

    • @kakarot197
      @kakarot197  10 лет назад

      Arrowdodger It's not mentioned anywhere that the GMs have extra machine guns, but they do have the same hatch on the right side of the chest as the Gundam does. Meaning that almost certainly totally do(but none in the arms). The Zakus have the same machine guns in the chest and also have 2 in the left arm(you probably mixed up the GMs and the Zakus). Other than those machine guns, a different backpack and rifle it looks almost identical to the regular Zaku II. So depending on how the anime versions will look, they could recycle some parts from the F2.

    • @Arrowdodger
      @Arrowdodger 10 лет назад

      yeah, I think I am mixed up. Still, will be interesting. I am just a little bummed out that in Origin, the Guntank and Guncannon are considered obsolete when the series starts, basically. They were flawed suits, yeah, but I like them.

    If your complaining about hollow parts you should take a moment to think about that these are A) model kits and B) bandai expects you to have an amount of competence when building kits. How hard is it to use putty? It's 2014.

    • @kakarot197
      @kakarot197  10 лет назад +9

      If you think that I'm complaining, then take a moment to think what this is, a review. Yes, I can easily fix it and you probably can too, but that doesn't make it any better. The whole gimmick of gunpla is that they look good out of the box, which is why we get the stickers we do and why the models are molded in mostly the right colours nowadays. Hollow parts are fine as long as they're reasonably out of sight, like with the twin beam gun or with the skirts armour, but in plain sight? Don't forget that the core audience for gunpla doesn't consist of big-time modellers but people who straight build their kits(most of the time even without panel-lining them, which is a real shame if you ask me =/ )

    • @narutoman876
      @narutoman876 10 лет назад +1

      "The whole gimmick of gunpla is that they look good out of the box" What? No it isn't. "Don't forget that the core audience for gunpla doesn't consist of big-time modellers but people who straight build their kits" Wrong, the majority of japanese builder paint their kits.

    mmmmmmmm . . . tbh i can't see how the hollow parts are a detriment for this kit (besides the fact that its 2014 now and we all expect awesomeness from bandai), i mean unless you have poor modeling skills and break everything out of the box . . . >_> otherwise i think its perfectly fine.

    • @Taov001
      @Taov001 10 лет назад +1

      i agree, to get every part and color in plastic and everything articulated would just drive the price of the kits up , which in turn would make production time of developing the kits longer, the argument that can be made is well its a HG but i say that that's all it is, i think it's a fair representation of it's design, kits are and can be made better on the skill of the builder (not saying kakarot197 isn't a good builder) everyone will have their nit picks and not everyone will be happy with what bandai gives us but i think it's great , that's why i bought this kit and the full armor gundam version.

      @SneakyZaku 8 лет назад +7

      +flarepie24 Quite an old post, but figured I would give a reply anyway. Thunderbolt suits are designed for work in a specific space called the 'Thunderbolt sector', formerly side 4 'MUA', it is a ruined colony that has numerous pieces of small debris floating around, such could interfere with suit systems if they flew into a joint, so the cloth you see is designed to protect the suits. Also, the extra Vernier thrusters you see all around the suit are to help with mobility, against the larger debris.

    I hate hollow models and figures. It pisses me off when hasbro does it with transformers. I agree with you fully. If they were articulated or something that would require them to be so, it wouldn't be a big issue.
