    Yes, age is a huge factor. I enjoyed excellent health for decades, but at 62 I suddenly developed eczema and blepharitis, two wretched conditions. Doctors were useless so I started to do my own research. Both conditions are completely gone now, thanks to two things:
    * intermittent fasting
    * carnivore diet
    It seems so obvious in retrospect: diet is everything.

    My blood work CRP scores are always very low. Dr. is staring to realize this. Started
    with Lean Gains 8/16 about 5 years ago. Presently on OMAD. I eat at lunch every day in
    1-2 hour feeding windows. Went from 230 lb./43" waist to 177 / 34". Starting Carnivore.

    IF has almost always been easy for me (more so now that I eat low carb) as I rarely want food until later in the day. Fasting usually helps me get over illness quickly, and keeps my mind relatively more agile than when I am feeding several times a day. IF is simply an easy part of my lifestyle. Love your videos. Keep them coming.

    Interesting. I did the OMAD diet of one meal a day. I ate one time at 4 to 5 pm and nothing after that. My TPO antibodies to my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis autoimmune disease went down significantly. Plus, a diet of anti-inflammatory foods are also the key to reducing inflammation and lowering TPO antibodies. I had found that inflammation was the source of my autoimmune disease. Get rid of inflammation and your autoimmune disease goes into remission.

    Beside the particular pattern of ramadan fast (eating early in the morning and late at night) I guess we need to keep in mind that it's a dry fast. So they don't drink any liquid either. This is like what Jewish do during kippour fasting. Daily dry fasting is much more difficult than water fasting, but in my experience, it's also more effective (quicker) in driving inflammation down, at least that's what I've noticed on my skin, and when I am sick (e.g, sore throat). Another interesting thing about it too is that it suppresses hunger much faster! Hunger is replaced with thirst, and then it goes away at some point. Lastly, it helps to reset cafein addiction. For instance, doing a 16/8 dry fast twice per week (drinking around 4pm) made me drop my cafein addiction. I can still enjoy coffee the other days, but I need less of it and my sleep is better, presumably thanks to a lesser amount and frequency of coffee intake. It's my belief that many of us, who practice a fasting-focused lifestyle are coffee addicts. And that shows up the quality of our (rem) sleep. Personally, I started to remember my dreams again, when I implemented these dry fasts twice per week, even though I have been eating one big meal a day for years (warrior diet).

      I was just about to echo this. The eating window itself maybe only 12-15 hours depending on the season when Ramadan hits. But the dry fasting seems to be at the core potentially of the referenced study Mike mentioned. Contemplating throwing in a dry fast into my prolonged fast..just to see how i feel.

    A year and a half ago I was very insulin resistant, which has dramatically improved doing keto and I.F. My body is really happy with a 16 to 20 hr fasting window, which amazes me. Mostly doing Keto, but I also allow times when I eat a little more freely. My wt is great now, having lost 25+ lbs. I'm 73, so I appreciate your input about inflammation and the aging process.
    I think the I.F. helps me keep my wt down. I am sure that the internal inflammation must be reduced, but I haven't specifically noticed it yet.

    This was a cool study. I know that a lot of inflammation occurs in the gut, but I was also reading about how as we age our skin health declines which leads to more inflammation. It's kind of a similar idea-- the gut is a boundary between our internal environment and external environment, it's basically the gatekeeper for the body. But the skin is essentially performing the gatekeeping function as well. I read a study that showed a reduction in total inflammation (I think in the elderly? not sure) by getting their skin healthier. Interesting stuff.

    i been doing OMAD fasting for 20-22 hours for 11 months now. I just had blood work done, i was satisfied with my numbers, and im down 30 lbs from 188. As far as training, its going strong, i'm shredded, still making gains, No signifigent Muscle loss, I'm 66 years old and been training for decades and in the best shape ever, i have a 30-inch waist again. I suffer from trigeminal neuralgia... whem I have crazy flare ups I can’t eat. Well the last time I had major pain I could only drink vegan plant protein shakes with my powder vita and minerals. With water. A week later I feel much better in body fat and feel that it actually helped relax the tightness on my nerves that are touching. Although my meds get cranked up. I feel after when I can eat a bit if I eat a bad thing I feel my pain starts to tingle. So I’m convinced of tryn to just do my shakes twice a day and eat one a week with my family.

    That's very interesting Mike. During Ramadhaan we eat alot more fried, fatty, high carb foods when we break the fast, so it does say something for 'fasting' alone as health promoter. Unlike what most people may think of as fasting, during the fast we don't drink water either, so perhaps that's a factor too.

    Keeping in mind the work of Satchin Panda and others on circadian effects of hormones, the ideal time to eat is not late in the evening as that is when the body produces less saliva, digestive enzymes, etc. Normal bodily system repair that occurs during sleep is also disrupted due to diverting to food digestion. Can you do a follow up addressing this as a confounding factor? Many thanks Mike - cheers.

    Let me tell you, as a person who battles chronic inflammation due to cystic fibrosis or the cystic fibrosis causes chronic inflammation, Intermittent fasting 16:8 or sometimes OMAD over the past three months has helped to reduce the inflammation in my system to the point where my lungs feel so clear! I now experience no chest tightness or shortness of breath. I do 5 days of 16:8 intermittent fasting, one 24 hour fast and Sunday is my sabbath. My hair also grew back (Human Growth Hormone) I have not had as much hair as I now have on my head since 2016. I have not felt this good in over a decade. I never even knew I could feel this good. Since I started regularly keeping 18-20 hour fasts, my sleep apneia decreased, my IBS largely decreased, my diverticulitis is pretty much non-existent so long as I don't eat bread. My Thyroid numbers got a ton better, I was able to get on a good weight loss plan where I'm average 1.4 lbs per week (I'm still powerlifting and gaining strength and muscle), and I've managed a few 36-42 hour fasts along the way. I suspect there's a lot more benefits out there than we realize when we combine fasting and lower carb and sugar consumption as i typically eat less than a 100 grams of carbs a day (mostly avocados, squash and zucchini) unless it's the day before my heavy chest day (then I go to 120 from protein pancakes [Kodiak mix plus unflavored whey protein, milk and eggs for 60 grams of protein and 72 grams of carbs). I've dropped 36 lbs of fat in five months.

      @Bankai90 4 года назад +3

      Prayers are a huge positive on the whole body. You have mainly 2 things which create stress in your body, your gut and your brain(perception of life). If you pray you relax often, prayer is also often a easy way to take the burden of your own shoulders "God will help me/guide me". It's like a positive selftalk, absolutely huge benefits from doing that every evening, it will decrease stress tremendously. Cuz otherwise you're stuck alone with your problems, feeling overbeared and unable to solve them will create a vicious cycle of unhappiness through your whole body impairing gutfunction and all cells.

I really want someone to study the effect of fasting plus a low sugar dies (sub 20 grams per day between refined and non-refined sources)on arterial plaque as it looks like to me, based on what I've seen.
