that's because most people don't get real music, its over their heads I mean just pay attention all you hear is hip hop and other talentless filth. you start constructing sentences and putting it into major cliff the majority are just lost. to complex for their piss pour Little under educated brains,
Fates Warning has always been about intelligent and thoughtful metal music. No gimmicks and nonsense that most metal bands present nowadays, and no mid life crisis or insecurities that their peers suffer from. That's what makes them a rare gem in metal. Really looking forward to the new album.
Oh yeah , they didn´t had these ridiculous periods of losing their identity like Queensryche did . fortunately Queenryche is back on track with ToddLa Torre on vocals .
Whenever i hear FW.. I got the goosebumps.. Drum Grooves, Bass , Awesome guitar melodies and THOSE VOCALSSSSSSSSSS man... FW is a totally complete band that should be praised more.
I was really pleasantly surprised after hearing their new album. Ray sounds pretty much the same that he did about twenty years ago. He may not be able to hit every single ridiculously high note that he could back then, but his voice still sounds great and everyone else is in top form too! I haven't heard many of their albums, but this and a few others have made me want to go out and listen to all of their stuff. Great job, guys!
Yeah. You can definitely tell Ray has aged a lot when you hear him live, but, from what I've heard, he quit smoking and has been working on his voice a lot lately. He still sounds good, but that's studio magic for you. However, I haven't heard him live recently so he may be much better. I still really respect Ray, though. Much more than some other vocalists out there. This is a great tune.
From the heart, and not afraid to speak at a high emotional level, FW perseveres through the ages, yet humble through it all, masters of an island in the stream.
This is a really fantastic Fates Warning tune. Far more straightforward than most things they write, but melodically, this is really inspired. Ray Alders voice conveys much emotion on this one. Nice to hear a song that isn't stretched out just for the sake trying to make it sound more prog. Beautiful.
Firefly There, in the silence of the night I see you shine Drifting down to me, drift down to me Is this how it's supposed to be? Will you stay, will you go? Again, this time, how far? Then you take, and you're gone No longer need to wait here anymore Fly, far away.. I won't regret at all Not asking you to stay I can't make you understand As I close my empty hand And as I stand here Watching stars go shooting by A thought comes to me, it comes to me This is how it's supposed to be Fly, far away I won't regret at all Not asking you to stay I can't make you understand As I close my empty hand And as night turns to day Alone now I walk away And as time changes Your light fades into the gray Will you stay, will you go? Again, this time, how far? Then you take, and you're gone No longer need to wait here anymore Fly, far away I won't regret at all Not asking you to stay I can't make you understand As I close my empty hand
Great song!!!! Trading in Gibson guitars with BC Rich parts to PRS guitars. From Jacksons to classical guitars from power cords to melodic melodies, electric drums to the standard double bass. Give these guys the tools and they will produce outstanding music. From Arch to Alder,Zimmerman to Zonder,Aresti,Matheos,DiBiase. EVERY MEMBER OF THIS GROUP NOW AND THEN I APPLAUD U ALL since 1986.
They don´t have the same big and pyrotechnic stage production that DT brings on their concerts, but musically talking, FW represents to me the essencial of the progressive rock/metal. By far Fates is my favourite since i don´t know, a bunch of years, they´re impressive!
***** prob best. but im kinda out of touch; these guys are untouchable imo though - just listen to sympathetic resonance, only difference is vocalists. I prefer Arch, but alder has his own unique style as well.
I am from my heart a serious music lover, I have too have a dose once a day at least, at 60 im still a metal head, can't help it,,, I am so so glad that there are bands out here like Fates, Evergrey, Dream theater and more, firefly by far is one of my all time favorite metal junky fixes,,, just soothes my soul and captivates my heart... keep it coming guys, when im 80 I wanna hear more of this kinda stuff and I need you to do it..... lots of love from Austin TX,,,,,
Awesome, just one more Masterpiece to add to the list to a severely underrated group. Fates Warning needs to be recognized for their on going talent as the extraordinary musicians that they are.
What The Water Wants are one of those rare releases that you listen to from start to finish. Absolutely love it! Flawless in my opinion. I do wish he’d put out solo merch like hoodies and car decals.
Saw them in Conneticut November 22nd 2013, I've loved them forever, it was surreal especially seeing Ray live, his voice amazing and untouchable, their music lyrics unbelievable....
Dream Theater was signed to a major record label in the mid-90's. Fates Warning was always with Metal Blade, except for "Perfect Symmetry" which was on Metal Blade and Enigma. Without the push of a huge, worldwide, record label a band will achieve a following, but it will not be as big as say Priest, Maiden, or DT. But, this probably allowed Fates to write more progressively than they could have on a major label.
Fates Warning is my 2nd favorite metal band until Queensryche get their shit together and Ray Alder is my favorite metal lead singer. He's a beautiful man with a beautiful voice.
gudalpesanz Well said. Geoff is the voice of Queensryche. Losing Chris was one thing. Firing Geoff killed Queensryche and formed two new bands. The voice on one end and the music on the other.
***** gudalpesanz Geoff Tate used to be one of the artists I most looked up to in this world, right up there with Neil Peart. Tate is now a fat, washed up hack. He's lost his voice through ignorance and abuse but instead of trying to resurrect it, he just makes the guys play in a lower key, speaks parts, whatever. His larger crime though was taking over the machinery of the band, bringing in outside writers to produce mediocre crap and market it under the Queensryche name. He's now in a downward spiral and it won't be long before he can't bring the rest of the band with him anymore.
I agree with you about Ray having an amazing voice. As far as Queensryche, I love the band, but can't stand Geoff as the 90s started to drag on. I even respected him until it started to become more apparent that he wasn't caring about how his performances were, how his voice sounded, and after he started to treat the rest of the band and the fans like crap. I'm a musician myself and I can say that a person isn't worth respecting if they can't treat others the way they want to be treated. I personally like Todd's voice. He's different than Geoff and has his own style. The new album Queensryche is probably my favorite that they did since Promised Land. I did like some aspects from Hear in the Now Frontier to maybe Mindcrime II, but I still couldn't respect Geoff after he started to be a control hog about everything. I respect your opinion, though.
I immediately purchased the album (+bonus CD) a few months following the worldwide release in 2014. Great band, and they need to keep going for many more years and not go into the long hiatus of nearly 10 years following 2005's FWX (despite Ray being involved with his side projects Redemption, etc.) When it is the case of Fates Warning I am gonna go for their releases without hesitation!!
Very good song/album..Been a fan since Night on Broken but really liked the with No Exit forward. I hope they keep this level of playing and song writing.

7 years later and only 300k views? A lot of people missing out on an incredible band.
Very sad that lots of people listen shit like rap instead of this masterpiece
I agree. They are highly underrated. I am a loyal fan. Fates Warning as a band are amazing. And they have a lot of hidden gem tracks.🤘
@@TerrenceBowden-i4k So true. They have lots of hidden gems.

I hate it when people compare Fates and DT. Both are phenomenal bands. But, let's not forgot that Dream Theater was inspired by Fates Warning.
Nah, DT kinda sucks, They prove that great musicians don't necessarily add up to a great band
Jack Hammer That's very subjective.
DT are boring AF
Why compare? DT is fucking boring...
Geez, I didn't realize there were so many DT haters here.

My favorite old Prog band is now my new favorite Prog band again!

Imo.. one of the foundations of progressive metal
Started to listen FW when i was teenager, now i am close to 40 and this guys make me feel young again ! Yesss !

Awesome, Great, Wonderful.....Song.
Fates Warning is one of our main influences.
Song of the year for me!!
Beautiful! Bravo!
One of my favorite singers🤘A LEGENDARY SINGER🤘
Fates Warning is one of only a handful of bands that can make a 7/8 time riff sound awesome..
Jim Matheos is a prodigy as Mark Zonder, Ray Alder and Joey Vera
Saw them with Dream Theater in 93' or 94'. They killed it, blew away Dream Theater. Awesome live!
They don´t have the same big and pyrotechnic stage production that DT brings on their concerts, but musically talking, FW represents to me the essencial of the progressive rock/metal. By far Fates is my favourite since i don´t know, a bunch of years, they´re impressive!
Lets not get carried away.
I will be seeing them for the first time tonight.
I totally believe that!!!!

Is it even possible making so great songs?
+lIllIllIll I think FW's back catalogue answers that question

Still possible in 2k22

Fates Warning is my 2nd favorite metal band until Queensryche get their shit together and Ray Alder is my favorite metal lead singer. He's a beautiful man with a beautiful voice.
Queensryche has their shit together now. Check out the Todd La Torre version.
TODD LA TORRE IS NOT THE LEAD SINGER OF QUEENSRYCHE! He's an evil imposter attempting to sound like THE GREAT GEOFF TATE!
