Systemic glucocorticoids, commonly referred to as steroids, are not recommended treatments for acute respiratory tract infections such as sinus infections. This article provides tips on how to best treat your sinus issues, such as using products with herbal ingredients, utilizing a spacer with an albuterol inhaler, and a nasal spray instead of a Neti pot. Additionally, taking the full day's dosage of Medrol in the morning, as opposed to a few times a day, and downloading Dr. Megan's Prednisone Checklist is also helpful.

"Likely to have" is why this study is flawed as someone who has suffered his entire life and is now 63 years old. There is no way I would be alive today were it not for prednisone to help clear up my sinus infections due to Perennial allergies and constant infections since childhood. Call it anecdotal if you want to but I cannot even count the number of times I tried to get through without having to use a steroid or an antibiotic and it never worked and I mean never! The best thing I have found to help prevent it from happening in the first place is ozone insufflation but even with this once I get a sinus infection there is only one thing that is going to fix it and it's not an antibiotic it has always been prednisone. You name the trick to do it without prednisone and I have tried it. I wish there was something other than prednisone believe me. I do not enjoy the side effects at all but it is what it is and that study is bunk! Whatever the percentage was in this study of the people that found Improvement were the ones who actually had a sinus infection.

Good observation, Alan. It sounds like your case may be a bit different than the typical one they mentioned in the study. If you’ve had seasonal allergies causing it, then that’s different than colds and other viral causes of sinus infections. In your case, when it’s more allergic than viral, that makes more sense to use prednisone. I did mention in the “who should use prednisone for sinus infections” section that people with chronic sinus infections should use it, as there is evidence for use.
Have they checked you for nasal polyps? Often chronic sinus issues can go along with nasal polyps.

@@robertharris4034 No to the vison but yes to equaliberium issues. Last month I change my diet to Carnivore and I am at day 31 now of only eating red fatty meats and so far it is the best thing I have done to date in the 20 years I have been trying to fix my health. I can not believe I did not hear about this sooner but the medical system is not set up to get us off of their drugs. They say you need 90 days with my health issues but I am already feeling better than I have in years.

Is it okay to take prednisone for eustachian tube dysfunction when you fly? I rarely fly, but when I do I get excruciating pain and plugged up ears for days. A doctor gave it to me a while ago and it seemed to work, but it could have been a fluke.

Does this apply to allergic rhinitis or virus recovery that has affected the throat (sore) and ear pressure? I have been alternatively told that I am suffering from allergic rhinitis or from back nasal buildup from virus infection that has passed, but symptoms lingering longterm that is bad enough to affect ear pressure. Is medrol wrong for these two possibles? My symptoms have lasted for over a month.

a 6 day course of that prednisone cured me of a 5 year addiction to nose spray..... if I didn't use the nose spray my nose became completely stuffed and pressurized from the membranes swelling, felt like I was suffocating, but this allowed me to keep my nose clear without using the spray and apparently 6 days was enough to get me off the nose spray for good...

Wow! That’s fantastic! What kind of nose spray? Was it oxymetazoline or a decongestant?
Or was it a steroid nasal spray like fluticasone?
