@@lococarl6890Wakka's change of heart was kickstarted when he saw the results of the kind of hate he was fostering during the events at Home. It was completed after the confrontation with and defeat of Yunaleska, where he learned that everything he had been taught was a lie.

Just after you flee Home on the airship and Cid tells Brother to blow it up with the fiends and Guado inside
The Al Bhed were not blew up in the home. At least the ones that weren't already killed by the Guado and fiend's. Everyone who survived boarded the ship. That's why there are compartments on the airship with Al Bhed. That was the survivors, Wakka isn't that screwed up.

Right his Aurochs were the blitzball version of the New York Jets.
Really? i never love with the aurochs. i just pass from the back with jassu, to letty, and then to tidus. never lose.
The trick is that the Al Bhed players begin strong but later become bad. They have poor growth and the Aurochs begin trash but have huge growth potential as they level up.

As Joynel said, their members are strong early, specially the keeper. So if you just want to rush the sigil it is a way to get it. I usually keep the Aurochs and just also hire Brother for his skill

Wakka, who was a devout believer in Yevon, goes through a Crisis of Faith after learning that Seymour killed his father and the group fights him. Unlike in most works of fiction where a character going through such a crisis typically resolves themselves to turning against their beliefs quickly, Wakka remains conflicted for pretty much the rest of the game. Having grown up his whole life being taught Yevon's teachings, he struggles with what to do because it was all he knew and believed in. Also, Wakka's hatred for the Al Bhed doesn't automatically go away either; Wakka has to re-evaluate his beliefs over the course of the game to fully let go of it and cast down his hatred for Al Bhed for good

honestly its a pretty brave idea to have a racist character. i cant think of another game that has a racist character in it. he changes over the course of the game as he learns more he becomes less ignorant and that's a pretty powerful thing to show
Edit: I love how every once in a while I get a comment saying "hey this character from this other game is also racist!" I'm sorry internet I have not played every game, nor have I cataloged every racist in every video game but feel free to keep telling me about all of them.
Agreed!! It's important to show that the face of discrimination isn't always some big, bad villain and that it can actually be coming from a misguided friend. We all couldn't help but smile when he apologized for his ignorance near the end of the game :)

I think Wakka saying "Boom! Like happy festival fireworks!" really shows that despite how deep his feelings go, he's still willing to ignore them and try (badly) to help Rikku feel better after losing her home.
It's especially endearing seeing as how this is also when Wakka finds out that YUNA is Al Bhed.
Yeah, going against her own people had to be hard. Along with walking to her death. At least Wakka started trying to change when he came face to face with 'holy crap, I've been a douchebag racist this whole time?' it wasn't an immediate change, but one that happened over time. He even made Rikku laugh a time or two at how awkward he became when he openly started trying to change for the better.
