Shadow of the Beast speedrun

  • 30th anniversary speedrun. SOTB1 is considered as one of the hardest Amiga games. I beat this game first time only few days ago without cheats. Precision is very important, even after memorizing the whole game.
    Not a perfect run, but I'm very happy with this time, because I found a glitch in the last boss and it took only few hits to kill him. Normally you'd have to beat him for quite a while longer. I'm not sure what caused the glitch though, first time I've seen that. It might be caused by getting hit before hitting the toe. Definitely room for improvement, considering where to take intentional damage.

      Back when I owned an Amiga 500 I had a hard time imagining that any computer would ever surpass its capabilities,. However after I saw Castle of Illusion and Ghouls'n'Ghost on Sega Genesis I had to accept defeat. Amiga no longer had the greatest graphics and most fluent animation. The sound of the Amiga was still way ahead of other computers/consoles though.

      Exactly, this game is less about skill and reactions as it is about memorization. More of a puzzle, than an action game. Congraz for beating it! I never bothered learing it properly before, because there were so many other games to play.

      @@plpmandenand that’s unfortunate, the amiga was a beast of a machine.
      Oh, 7.16 mhz 68000 with 32 colors not good enough? Introducing HAM and HALF BRITE, as well as DPF.
      Still? Sprites and PAULA, allowing for 4 channels of 8 bit sound with volume control OR 2 channels of 16 bit sound. You also got hires and a 40kb per second disk drive.
      STILL??? There’s better machines like the A1200 which has a 14.32 mhz 68020 and AGA, a super powerful 32 bit enhancement allowing for 262,144 colors at once (or 256) even in hires, and gives you new SUPERHIRES modes.
      STILL????? You’ve got mid line stuff like the copper, and the freakin’ DEMOSCENE.
      If you need more, go to the PowerPC amigas.

    • @einokeino303
      @einokeino303  5 лет назад +4

      Thx, lol! :D I'm pretty chill so not too much collateral damage :) It's not that hard getting an under 20min run, after beating the game for the first time. Most of the early game is rather easy with lots of surplus health. There are many small mistakes and safe strats in this run so it shouldn't be too hard to beat, especially if the glitch for the end boss is consistent.

    Loistavaa! Monesti olen miettinyt, mahtaako joskus tulla speedrun-video tästä pelistä ja nythän täältä löytyi sellainen! Tarkkaan lasketut osumat alussa ja hienosti kokosit itsesi epäonnekkaan linnan alun jälkeen, kun selvisit lisäenergia-arkuille.
    Tuo oli uutta, että Amigalla ei menetä kuin yhden osumapisteen power punch -salamakenttään. Muistaakseni Megadrive-versiossa siihen osuminen on sama kuin henki pois. Sitä en ymmärtänyt, miten loppupomo kuoli noin vähällä iskumäärällä?
    Tämä ei ole kovin kaukana optimaalisesta suorituksesta, hyvin pelattu. Edit. Hieman kävi mielessä, että mahtaisitko olla niin hurja, että jätät soihdun hakematta :D. Koskaan en ole mennyt alkua pitemmälle linnassa ilman sitä, joten en osaa sanoa, miltä siellä näyttää ilman valoa. Kenties yhtä pimeältä kuin Zelda II:ssa.

    • @einokeino303
      @einokeino303  5 лет назад +3

      Kiitti kommentista. Juu, linnan alku ei mennyt ihan nappiin. Energiaa oli käytössä normaalia enemmän, koska pelasin melko varovaisesti edellisen osuuden, joten oli varaa ottaa enemmän osumia. Osumia olisi ollut varaa ottaa enemmän hitaissa kohdissa, mutta pelasin jokseenkin varman päälle, koska aiemmat läpipeluut oli huomattavasti tiukemmilla energioilla.
      Loppupomossa oli selkeä bugi, joka tuli tässä ensimmäistä kertaa vastaan. En lähtenyt tarkemmin selvittämään, mistä se johtui, mutta kenties osuma nuijasta ennen hyökkäystä saattaa olla siinä takana. Hyvin mahdollisesti toistettavissa oleva bugi. Muistaakseni linnaan ei pääse edes sisälle, jos soihtua ei hae, joten valitettavasti välttämätön.

    • @Eliminaattori
      @Eliminaattori 5 лет назад +1

      @@einokeino303 einokeino303 No niin, kiitos tarkennuksista. Itse asiassa linnaan pääsee ilman soihtua, mutta käytävät ovat pilkkopimeitä ja en tiedä, voiko siellä edes kulkea sisäänkäyntialuetta pitemmälle. Muistan kuitenkin, että peli kysyy "are you looking for a torch?" jos linnasta tulee ulos (samasta ovesta josta menet sisään).
      Sama juttu jos aloituksesta lähtee suoraan oikealle ja laskeutuu kaivoon, niin alaovi on lukossa ja tällöin latausruudussa lukee ylös tullessa "are you looking for a key?
      Loppupomo-bugi oli joka tapauksessa mielenkiintoinen löytö!
