  • It’s Week 22 of Winging It and as May is a five week month, we are going to look at textile art techniques. This time we are learning all about Fabric Manipulation.
We are going to learn 11 different Fabric Manipulation techniques to create a cute coral reef scene. This is the longest video I’ve ever made and I really hope you enjoy the page we are going to create. I had so much fun making this piece and am really excited to share it with you.
You can download the template free of charge at:
    www.featherstitchhouse.co.uk/shop
To stitch along, you will need:
20x20cm piece of felt with a 1cm border marked on all sides
    Scissors
    Needles
    Pins
    Embroidery threads
    Machine cotton
    A candle or lighter
A selection of fabrics including at least one synthetic fabric and one polka dot or gingham
    Toy filling
    Heat erase pen
A circle template or a small circular object to draw around
Don’t forget to post your creations at #fshwingingit and#fshwingingit22 so that we can see each other’s versions. I can’t wait to see what you make.
    Happy Crafting
    Love
    Rebecca

I've just subscribed to your channel to learn more hand-stitching techniques. Thank you for sharing so much information. I would really appreciate more close-ups, while you are stitching and while preparing the fabric (folding, gathering, etc.). Nothing wrong with moving the camera in closer sometimes or using the close-up function. You don't have to have the whole piece of work showing all the time.

    • @featherstitchhouse
      @featherstitchhouse  Год назад +4

Hi there. Thanks for your feedback. I run my chanel on a shoestring and have a very simple set up. I do try to do closer shots where possible, but my camera doesn't have a close up function or optical zoom so closeups either mean lower resolution or resetting my camera mid-stitch. One day I hope I'll have a great camera so that I can zoom in and out more easily but for now, it's not easy. I hope as you follow my videos through the year, you'll see some improvements along the way. X

So many things to try. Thanks for your generous sharing. A wondering . . . And maybe someone said this already in the comments . .. I wonder of a heat gun would be a slightly less hazardous way of melting the fabric? Will have to try. Just a thought . . Thanks again!

Hello! 👋 So glad you enjoyed the video. I am sure a heat gun would be safer... I don't own one though. I have seen people use tea lights which are at least fairly stable. I do tend to live dangerously where fabric is concerned. Have you seen my pepper video? That green lame nearly destroyed me! 😂 🫑

I totally agree. In all my Winging It videos, I try not to unpick or start again. My philosophy is that if I don't like it, it isn't finished. 90% of the time, beads are the answer! 😂

I did it in 2 afternoons. It's quicker han you might think. The padding and pleating took longest -about 45 mins each. The trapunto, ruffle, twisting and trapping were quick - under 20 mins. Melting, and gathering took about 10 mins each. I only spent about 40 mins adding embroidery. You can do as much or as little as you like. If there's a technique you particularly like, use it more than once. Just have fun. 🤗

& not like ancient embroidery--- that made seamstresses blind, for their lives - just good manipulation.

I liked your video, but I think is too long. I think shorter videos with a few techniques would have been easier. I watched it in pieces, but I think you could have pieced yourself.

Thanks for the feedback. It was part of a year long project - one video per week. That's why it was all in one. Hopefully there was something useful there for you.

    Far too many adverts!

Hi there. I am sorry about the ads. Unfortunately I don't have much control over ads in my videos as RUclips puts them in automatically. I can't even see where they get added. It's one of the ways RUclips makes money from public videos on channels that don't charge for membership. I hope that you were able to skip and that the project was inspiring in spite of the breaks.

@@featherstitchhouse Thank you for your reply….I don’t understand this …I am myself a textile artist and have sewn all my life….I watch many sewing videos…some go on longer than yours ,might have one or two ads,but nothing like this…you can’t skip them they still insist on showing them…certainly spoils viewing..hope you don’t lose views over this!!

@@christinepreston8267 Hi again. I have spent some time digging around behind the scenes and have just discovered how to manage ads. I only got this facility 2 weeks ago and am just learning. I went into the back end of this video and was horrified to discover that something like 20 ad breaks had been automatically inserted into my video. This was nothing to do with me - I had no idea and can totally understand why you would have been cheesed off! I have now deleted them and turned off in video ads on all videos under 30 mins.
If you hadn't commented, I would've had no idea this had happened so thanks for letting me know.
I hope that you will watch some more of my videos and that the experience hasn't put you off.
RUclips is mostly a mystery to me. I am just a stitcher trying to share my love of fabric and thread with the world. I am learning all the time and want my channel to be as good as it can be.
Hopefully now I know how to control what happens in my videos, we shouldn't have any more ad bombing!
RUclips makes you learn in public - inexperience is on display to the world. It's uncomfortable, sometimes embarrassing but I hope the good outweighs the bad for the most part.
      Have a great day. 👍

If u want people to watch yr videos then speak up and speak clearer. You're not just talking to yr English folks but please don't lose yr accent. When I'm not trying to learn something I enjoy listening and trying to guess which country they are from. We are all God's children. Than km s for all yr ideas. Have a blessed day.😄

Totally uncalled for. There’s nothing at all wrong with the way this video is presented.
