  • The 62 Group of Textile Artists is an artist-led group with an international reputation whose aim is to question and challenge the boundaries of textile practice and to encourage a greater awareness of the art form. The membership is worldwide and consists of approximately 60 exhibiting members, comprising both established artists and recent graduates.
The theme of this year’s exhibition focuses on the global context of textiles, textile production and the relationships it creates both historically and now, in artworks investigating the subject from a wide range of viewpoints and textile media. Several of the artists have focussed on the specific relationship that Lancashire has with textile industries across the globe. While the heritage of textile production in Lancashire provides a rich starting point, other artists have investigated more personal histories relating to their own locale or wider political contexts resulting from the impact of textiles on people & place.

So very interesting. My father was is textiles in New York City, the buying of it, and then down south in the same area of business. My mother in law worked in a textile mill until the big closures. I can remember her coming home with white fluff in her hair and a thin layer of dust on her thermos. Hard work.

This is wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing the work of these amazing textile artists. So very inspiring! I'm a semi-retired graphic artist exploring the field of textile art and although I am late to the art form, have fallen in love with it and I'm in the process of finding my own unique style. Watching and hearing these artist's stories have encouraged me to keep going. Thank you!

Amazing artwork. So inspiring. Fun to see so much versability with just one kind of material. Fiber art deserves to be seen much more than a utility craft or hobbies for bored housewifes! Times are changing thankfully.
